I have no idea how many times I've heard this particular version of Tarde, and I still get emotional listening to these two masters. I know Milton Nascimento from being a life long fan of Wayne Shorter's. I've seen Wayne play live many times, and I would put this performance here among his very best, phenominal.
! !* *A M A Z I N G ! ! !*
Faço suas as minhas palavras. A obra do MIlton é gigantesca, leva tempo pra ouvir e assimilar.
The level of mastery on this stage is so much higher than you can imagine, if you didn't know what each has already created! No two creators had come together like them ever!
'Multitalented Milton Nascimento is frequently acclaimed as Brazil's greatest musician. As a singer/songwriter, he weaves a startling blend of musical influences, including Brazilian and African folk strains, European classical music, and the Brazilian bossa nova. He has collaborated with and inspired numerous Latin American musicians, and has won the admiration of diverse American artists, including jazzmen Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Pat Metheny.' This argumentation is no '' shit ''. It´s about the exact meaning, which has everything to do with the emotion of the song AND has to do also with the portuguese language, which should deserve more respect.
In truth, the song is about exile in dictatorship period in Brazil. The afternoons are that long because of loneliness. He, wanting to go back, wanting to stop feeling lonely. And in the end Even if he finds pain when he's back. Not asking for forgiveness cause he knows what he is. It's a statement.
No, Tarde does not mean perfect. Perfect in portuguese is perfeito. Tarde means afternoon , it can also mean late. I am brazilian, buddy, 100 % shure about that. In this song, Tarde has the meaning of afternoon, the period between mid-day and , let´s say, 6 or 7 pm. He even says in the beginning '' reborn ... from the lonely afternoons ''
Portugese language sounds kinda sexy - but I wish I understood what the words meant in this song. The way Milton sings this song the words must be very important based on the emotion he gives them.
Agora estou curiosa
nahhh.... this is nit picking, the parameters of what ´´tarde´´ can mean are very narrow, basically its ´´late´´and not much else...... sorry for swearing.
