A lot of people tell me that the Milwaukee and AEG impact drivers are the exact same. Made by the same people in the same workshops with the same internals.
I wanted to see if this was true, so I dismantled them and had a look.

When taking tools apart, lay it down on a table so the screws are face up, remove the screws and then lift the side of the casing you took the screws out of, like you did w the AEG. Same for reassembly. It’s much easier that way and how it’s made to be done, taking a picture of the layout before you lift any components out can help as well

I’m a Milwaukee guy but I have to say I was pretty impressed with the apprentices AEG stuff, it fell off the roof (three stories) and it still worked. So pretty solid, apprentice is using AEG and when he comes out of his time his goal is to get kitted out with Milwaukee

Just to clarify, the tools are different being made by different companies but know the one business owns the 3 brands of Ryobi, AEG and Milwaukee, I worked for them in australia for roughly 8 years as store man/forklift driver etc. as employees we could buy any tool at cost price plus the gst, so great discounts as such I have a great range of tools and luv them all, ryobi is more the dyi, AEG the middle of the road, and of course Milwaukee top of the road, but as long as you look after and use tools within their limits all are great quality tools ⚒⚒ ⚒

AEG looks a lot like Ridgid? I imagine you guys don’t have ridgid? If you look it up on Home Depot US you’ll see they’re same exact shape/ what really gave it away to me is the color is identical and the front section of the battery mount is also identical looking to ridgid. Willing to bet it’s the same tool.

TLDR: TTI do share design, engineering and manufacturing across brands. Are they always the same inside? No. But some are. There is a significant level of misunderstanding in the market, Yes both Brands are owned by TTI, The product designers and materials engineering do share information on products and components. Just like VW and Porsche do. (MQB Platform anyone??). Are any/some of the products near identical? Yes. Jobsite Blower, and Reciprocating Saw's i'm looking at you, even the Ryobi one is the same. These brands are aimed at different markets and sometimes have the same component construction because it saves enormous amounts of money in the manufacturing and materials process. Torque Test Channel has several videos showing Rigid/AEG and Milwaukee with very similar and interchangeable components, even showing the 'lesser' Ridgid/AEG outperform its sister milwaukee product. AvE has a couple of videos on the subject about ownership, slippage and manufacturing regarding TTI
@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the info mate. What misunderstanding were you referring too? Was it about sharing information?
@MrIdiotkiwi
@MrIdiotkiwi 2 месяца назад
I'd say this video is more aimed at the mouth breathers who moronically claim that because the different brands are part of the same group, that then their products must all be the same. Sure, some of them may have shared components, or even be almost identical, but the majority aren't.
@AddictedtoTools
@AddictedtoTools 2 месяца назад
@MrIdiotkiwi that’s where I was going with it. All those that I’ve talked with about this are just saying that they know they’re owned by one company. And that they look similar. So they are all the exact same rebranded for a profit.

@firebatathome 2 месяца назад
@@AddictedtoTools Not about sharing information, i should rephrase, Misunderstanding in the market* not per-se your video which is only a reflection of what people are stating out there in the world (have edited my comment above for continuity) TTI do have identical products across brands, just not the two youve happened to demonstrate.

They're both uneconomical to repair ergo they are "cheap" disposable products, that doesn't equal a pro tool ! Would you buy a Rolex if Rolex refused to sell you replacement components, as soon as so much as a cog threw a tooth, rendering it junk ? If you're going to sell tools at high prices and call them pro products, they better be quality, ergo maintainable and Milwaukee tools are not maintainable, most of the spares are expensive sealed components or simply not available, rendering them uneconomical to repair that makes them disposable junk, and this should not be tolerated by any self respecting tradesperson !
@MrIdiotkiwi
@MrIdiotkiwi 2 месяца назад
Even with more user serviceable designs (like brushed tools), a big problem with reparability is people continuing to use items with a small fault, which then turns into a big fault, which gets the tool scrapped. You shouldn't blame tool manufacturers solely for this issue.
@rocketmunkey1
@rocketmunkey1 2 месяца назад
@@MrIdiotkiwi What blame the customer ? No Its not just major faults which are unrepairable, its relatively minor issues which are unrepairable, because Milwaukee simply will not supply the parts, or seal them in plastic so you have to replace whole sections not just individual components. When Milwaukee and other companies intentionally manufacture tools to make them uneconomical to repair, they are instantly rendered cheap disposables, they should not be marketing them as professional tools with professional price tags. regardless of who you claim is responsible for the fault, its fixing the fault which is the issue and that lands squarely with the manufacturer.

That’s what I don’t understand. I get so many people saying that Milwaukee is just red ryobi. Not sure if they’ve ever used both drills or impacts but there’s a massive difference.
@rocketmunkey1
@rocketmunkey1 2 месяца назад
@@AddictedtoTools The reason people call them red ryobi is because they are both blobs of plastic with sealed components, which if they go wrong you cant fix economically, making it cheaper to just throw them in the bin like some cheap disposable. The power of the motor is about the only difference, but the disposable design philosophy is Exactly the same. Watch Dean Dohertys tool repair videos to see what I mean.

@@AddictedtoTools What exactly do you mean by "These people" tho, because I call them Red ryobi and I'm not under any misapprehension that All the tools are identical inside, but they are all "cheap" disposables, I own several Milwaukee tools, including the gen 3 drill and impact but I wont be buying any more. All that said some of these tools do have the exact same internals, one shocking example is the Hilti GX90 nail gun which was the most expensive on the market, but the internals were IDENTICAL to a TJEP nail gun one of the cheapest on the market, Hilti put a 300% markup on it for the privilege of having a red plastic Hilti case.
