It's a boy! The newest member of the giraffe tower was born at 4:37pm on 7/13. He's 5'7" and was standing 55 minutes after being born. Ziggy has been a very attentive mom. The giraffe calf has been named Desmond, and he has been busy exploring his surroundings.

So excited to have Desmond come to AAP! I've been following this cutie since he was born, and it will be so cool to watch him And Taj grow up together! Thank you Milwaukee County Zoo for helping to make this happen! He is already so loved!

I somehow just tripped across this video of Desmond, was this made official? I don’t tune in much anymore at AAP, too sad about April, Taj looks so lonely and I really don’t think Jo is pregnant

@@KnuckleheadParker Yes, it's official. Desmond is coming to AAP ~ and is possibly already there in quarantine. Taj will be introduced to him shortly. Maybe today??? It's Taj's birthday, after all. I'm concerned about Joh too. I keep remembering how CMZ's Laikipia had everyone thinking she was pregnant, because she had (slightly) elevated progesterone levels and she had grown large, but it turned out to be some kind of cyst that was affecting her hormones. Nothing would please me more than if Joh was pregnant, though. This is one time I would be happy to be wrong!
