@@WHC That sounds awesome. When you say, AC (air conditioning) do you mean Central Air or do you just mean an A Window Unit Air Conditioner? See I watched a video of someone hooking up a 8500 unit (different name than harbor freight's predator) to the houses electric panel. I loved the idea. Milwaukee is a cordless tool company. This thing is designed specifically for work crews as a gap filler for the increasingly shrinking set of specialty tools they need that are not yet cordless. For example, Milwaukee likely assume you will running more efficient battery powered lights instead of plugging in 120v lamps for use under a house. In contrast, Milwaukee does not, however, offer a battery powered roofing nailer yet. Even so, I think the insane price is going to turn off most builders. They would never consider something like a Jackery, though, to run power tools on a job site. They would stick with a gas generator.

I don't think I could have given a better review myself - well done as usual! You hit the nail on the head - the KEY aspect of any battery powered inverter is WATT HOURS. How many watts for how long. This unit *might* be an OK option for indoor work where you do not have access to any utility or gen power, like a jobsite. This might be good with a big saw plugged in, for quick cuts throughout the day, or a small/medium air compressor with brief run times. Nothing running continuously. But if I needed portable power and could chose between this or a 2000W or 2200W Suitcase inverter gen, I would go for the gas powered inverter generator all day long. And if I was really in a situation that I absolutely could not use a gas generator, I think I would rather spend the money on 18-20V cordless Lithium battery-powered tools. You could easily buy several 18V power tools (that would be easier to lug around) than this unit.

This "generator" seems more like a charger to me. Very similar to the Dewalt power station that takes four batteries. We used the yellow one once or twice for running site lights or a quick cut with a table saw here and there. Most of the time it sits plugged in and acts as a charging station. Same situation with this red one. It's handy when you need to grab it and use it for something quick, but it'll be more useful as a two bay charger. Especially after seeing the new mx tools. A power trowel, plate compactor, core drill, etc. Having this guy on site charging up batteries for use in these bigger tools is where this is going to be used more often than not.

I completely agree. I just don’t understand why people are so hell-bent on trying to run everything on batteries when It’s obvious that battery technology is not at the point to replace gas generators. There is no way in hell that a decently priced battery generator can run hi-powered gear like table saws and compressors all day. When we’re there and it can be done at a reasonable price, I’m all in, but I don’t see that happening till we have new battery tech or find a way for electric motors to do the same amount of work while using 1/2 the amount of energy.
@elBusDriverKC
@elBusDriverKC 3 года назад
Yeah, I'm kind of over the battery hype. Batteries are great for portable hand tools, small electronics etc..... Some of our best battery tech out there is in electric cars and those batteries are huge and still get used up quick and take a while to recharge (especially on the 120v watt chargers). Gas generators are loud and stinky, but they can put out some actual working watts and keep those watts up. Also, I'm curious why they call it a generator instead of an inverter. Clearly an inverter is the heart of it, but I thought a generator "took mechanical energy and converts it into electrical energy"

The auto shut-off feature was removed shortly after release. This video should be updated. These are not intended for homeowners. This is a professional unit designed as part of a system of battery operated tools which include a jackhammer and 14” demo saw., tower light, core drill, ect. There are many instances on a job site where tools only need to run for minutes, or situations like working indoors where you cant have a gas engines running inside. This system eliminates the hassle of needing to start, shut off, restart gas powered tools and generators, or having to locate a generator outside and run long cords while working inside. Its not meant to be a “full replacement” for a gas generator. How could it? Its meant to eliminate the need and hassle of having to drag out, fuel up, maintain, and struggle to start a gas generator for intermittent use. These are designed for industry, not homeowners - hence the reason why its the only battery “generator” you’ve tested that will run your air compressor. That tool could be the difference between having a portable working source of electricity placed inside or shared between a van, trailer, or utility truck in 2 minutes, or having to spend the time, money, and effort to install an inverter system inside a single vehicle or small fleet. It could also be the difference of running a miter saw on a location that doest have power - for a full week - without ever having to start a generator once. Yes, you may be able to find a cheaper and smaller homeowner type unit to go camping - but the batteries inside will only ever power that device. With Milwaukee’s MX generator you can pull one battery out and run their cordless jackhammer to break up a sidewalk or basement floor. This tool is worlds apart different than what its been compared to here.

Any battery pack will have a hard time running a device that turns electricity into heat. We use one of these on the job to run tools and a compressor all day and it goes all week without needing to be charged with both batteries in. Now if we had all corded tools and ran them all on this thing then it would probably need to be charged a lot more frequently, but we run things that only get used in short bursts like the compressor and the miter saw. The experience really depends on what you’re going to be running. I wouldn’t buy one because the only thing I would use one for personally is charging batteries which is something else that we use it for, but there are cheaper options for power supplies dedicated to charging cordless tool batteries. I’d say if you’re made of money and just have got to have everything Milwaukee then go ahead, it’s not a bad unit.

I am continuously taking them out and shoving them back in. It is pretty expensive, but the Honda generator is simply too loud at night. Good news is that It runs a little fan for me all night long - without shutting off. Runs over 9 hours with multiple small low wattage items. Much quieter than a generator - especially in a campground, and it can be used inside the house. It has its' pros and cons. Thank you for all the details in your review. 👍

I'm a big Milwaukee fan, but this poor excuse of a generator makes me wonder about their other products. Milwaukee sure dropped the ball when they designed this piece of garbage. They should fire all the idiots that designed and produced this POS! Take it off the market and design something much better, with better features. I hope the big wigs at Milwaukee see this video, read the comments and take it to heart. Let's see a new improved gen set!

I did a preview video myself based on what they shared and it seemed promising, the reality not so much. The problem with almost every tiool channel on YT is that they are all connected to a retail store, getting the tools for free with longstanding relationships. I have none ordered this with my own money for the review, had I liked it I would have been the first to go nuts for it, in fact it pissed me off quite a bit!

I feel like this has a very specific market it's targeting crews in heavy construction that need to run big tools that aren't already on Mx or m18 it's restrictions seem to fit that if your drawing under 80w use an m18 top off if you need lighting use the rocket lights bot Mx and m18 I can't realistically see a need for this unless you want to run catering equipment like microwaves and electric food heating (which the short runtime fits well for or if your running something big like large plug in power tools also if you don't already use Mx for other tools this also makes no sense if you have this you Also probably have an Mx braker or lighting or cut of saw so this just mean you can get a couple extra batteries and run your other corded stuff at the same time

Solar panel, pedal crank charger, windmill, etc. I can see the Eco-Family going "camping" in their Tesla Truck, take something like this along. Inside construction, no fuel fumes, nearly silent. I think I'd have to agree with your video. Pretty sure I noticed that the batteries were "One Key" but the unit itself wasn't. That seems really strange to me, and really leaves a lot of potential on the table, if they added the ability to view battery stats and set the auto disarm function off in certain situations, this product would probably be a fair amount better. That said, I'm not a fan of the one battery at a time charging, and no other way to charge the unit aside from AC. The product could be improved in so many ways, but here's Hoping that Milwaukee take this information on board and make a better unit.

Great honest review only issue I disagree with you on is plugging in and using the batteries at the same time. If you have power on-site you would not need the battery source. If you wanted to charge and use 120 volt power you could use a splitter prior to the battery bank and charge and use at the same time.
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 3 года назад
My reasoning is that almost every battery unit for much less than this already has that ability and if you spent that money it seems crazy to not just be able to use this as a splitter and save carrying an extra item each time. If it included 4 outlets it would be a bit more dissapointing and by itself its not huge but being able to skip carrying some things is always nice, especially when you spent $2200 on this.

What a lot of people (red team fan boys) don’t know is that Dewalt came out with their power station YEARSSSS ago. Works amazing for off grid job site use and camping or emergency power outages for your fridge/freezer. Shouldn’t run sensitive electronics off it but that’s not really a gripe seeing how it wasn’t engineered to be... ran my full size family’s fridge and freezer for 8 hours straight using the 9.0 batteries.

I'm the thousandth like, yay me! So you say that this product sucks _and_ blows, eh? 😝 Well, it's not all that bad if you think of the context in which it's intended to be used. This is intended to be used by tradesmen who use other Milwaukee tools that take those overpriced batteries, in places that have no AC wiring installed, at least not where the work is being done. Devices like this would be used instead of running power cables to each and every power tool, so UPS functionality wouldn't be a consideration. Battery packs would go to/from the one place where there's a power drop or generator, and be replaced as needed. In that situation, having the inverter shut off when there's no big loads looks like a useful feature. Not for RVers or campers, for sure.
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 3 года назад
When I worked commercial construction for 10 years, they would have laughed at this. The run time is part of the problem along with electronics being wide open to the air, dust and moisture. If f I was in a crawlspace or unlit room and after 60 minutes 12 led lights went out (enough to light 3 rooms) I don't think I would be very happy about this product being a real work tool.
@StringerNews1
@StringerNews1 3 года назад
@@SilverCymbal I get what you're saying, but Milwaukee also sells a wide range of work site lighting products, from small flashlights to entire temporary lighting systems. When I consider that, I doubt that they intend for this to eat into potential sales of their lighting products. Perhaps that's why it cuts off like that.

I got a cheap one on ebay for like $350 some 3-4 years ago and since it does not use gasoline it still runs even after leaving it untouched for 2 years since there is nothing to trash the carb. I had to use it last week and it started right up with 20lb propane tanks and very clean to deal with in a power outage. I think it is better than the battery backup because it is cheaper and you can stock up very cheaply on 20lb propane tanks.
