Congrats to Chris and Daniel! Thank you guys so much for the awesome comments. I love hearing what yall are working on. Big ups to Milwaukee tools for letting me hook you guys up with some tools.
3/8" I'll finally be able to drive this December! My grandpa gave me his 1993 Chevy 1500. So far I've had to drop the gas tank, restore it, and replace the fuel pump. This would be an awesome addition to my tool box.
this is 100% exactly what i wanted to watch. Doing research comparing the two lengths. Your conclusion of "if only 1, get the normal length" was exactly what i was looking for. Thanks Charles! Love this channel for VW / R32 / Beard content. And now more for the tool info!
98 Ford Explorer upkeep. The truck was sitting for over a year and I revived it back to life. My buddy gave it to me to check on his property while he was gone for a couple weeks. I daily drive it and love it. I would make good use of this ratchet.
I want one of these so very badly! Milwaukee is making outstanding products now. They're the only ones I spend any money on anymore. I'd love to get the 3/8" drive to work on my Ford. It's a constant project but I've kept the 2002 5.4l running and she's got 360k miles on her now. This tool would make my life so much easier and repairs so much faster. I have to replace the brakes soon so I would definitely be using this to get it fixed. This would also come in handy repairing my wife's subaru outback. Great video as usual sir!
So I’m 72 and my youngest daughter is almost 13. “Back in the day” in High School auto shop (circa 1963) my buddy and I were in the Plymouth troubleshooting contest in Illinois. What a great time and experience and we had an awesome Auto Shop teacher. Over the years, I have retained that deep rooted passion for auto mechanics and oddly enough my daughter seems to have the same mechanics passion in her veins. We are going to buy a “project car” for she and I to fix up so when she turns 16 it will be hers to drive. Honestly, I would pass on the Milwaukee to her as something to remember Dad about and the fun we’ll have on the project car. Either the 1/4” or the 3/8” would be awesome. I really enjoy your videos and the down to earth manner you have. Keep up the good work.
You're supposed to use it like a regular ratchet to tighten or loosten, the electric is just for running the nut up or down. That's why the torque specs are low, because they aren't designed to be an impact. Having said that, Milwaukee also makes right angle impacts.
Love your videos. I have a couple VW Jettas, so your videos have been very informative. I could use the 3/8 drive for vehicle repairs and restorations. I retired from the Air Force last year with 26 years as a vehicle mechanic and since they provided all the needed tools, I am now trying to build up my tool collection as well as a new larger tool box.
One of these ratchets would go miles towards helping to keep my aging mk4 Jetta on the road!! Current projects: complete front suspension refresh, axle:diff output shaft seal, chasing down a valve cover leak. Your videos have been incredibly helpful!
I would absolutely love having a 3/8 one! Especially on a college budget. I'm always working on my '03 1.8t Passat, next project is inner CV boot replacements.
I have been trying to talk my wife into letting me get one of these for a while. I use 3/8 mostly as my favorite old craftsman ratchet is in that size. I would use it to work on my Tacoma, my wife's CRV and helping friends and family fix there cars. I am a DIY mechanic and always end up going to a friend or family's house to help and a portable power ratchet would really speed things along. Great video
Honda family here, pilots, elements and civic Own the Milwaukee m12 1/4 hex impact, m18 3/8 mid torque and 1/2 high torque so one of these would be a nice addition
3/8" I have a 1997 Grand Marquis with over 389,000 miles on it, and it still runs great. Just finished a full replacement of the front end parts - upper and lower control arms, ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, sway bar links, tie rods, shocks, rotors, calipers, etc. So, there's always something to work on, even though it's never left me stranded.
3/8" My current project is a 99 K2500 6.5 Diesel. Full engine rebuild +tune, cam, injectors etc, replace all bushings & mounts with polyurethane, vacuum delete, rear swaybar install.
I have volunteered to help a friend fix up their car since they cannot afford to pay a shop to do it. Finished up wheel bearing a couple weeks ago. Still on the list all serviceable fluids, rotors and pads, refitting the front bumper so it will stop popping loose, and anything else we find along the way.
1/4" I do a lot of my own repairs on our vehicles. We own a 2007 VW Caravelle 2.5 TDi and a 2010 VW Jetta 2.0 TDi. I also do all my own maintenance and repairs on our motorcycles. Such a tool would be a great addition to my toolbox. I live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, about 35 km from the VW factory in Uitenhage.
Charles, I came across your channel a week or so ago, and just had to subscribe. Although, I'm not much of a VW fan anymore (went thru that phase in the late 80's and early 90's). I have picked up on a few things from you, and you are very thorough with what you do. keep up the good work!!
I would like the 3/8ths drive. This will make the work on my wife's car much easier. Her SUV just got 73,000 miles so barely broken in, but some big things are going to need to be replaced soon. So, if I am selected, this will make it easier to work on my wife's car, then my car when it gets up there in miles to. Congrats on the channel doing so well and for the awesome content!
I have the old school m12 . It is my absolute favorite tool . As an automotive tech I would use the 3/8 most likely , but the 1/4 would work great as a extended reach but spinner for situations that have many screws. Thanks Charles ! Liked , Shared , and Commented .
1/4 I will be restoring my 91 Carolla, the only transportation that gets me and my cancer ridden, double amputee, HIV positive, diabetic, adopted chinese refugee daughter to her cancer treatments everyday. I will also be fixing her wheel chair seat padding that has totally worn down to the metal that pierces her spine every time she uses it to get around the house. PLEASE. WE CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT THIS TOOL.
Yesterday I thought "I really dont have reason to buy this" and today, right now, I'm changing the idler pulley on a Dodge Durango 5.7L. This long ratchet and shallow sockets wouldve made this a piece of cake.
I'm a mechanic for the army and also do side work at home. I'm about to get a project car. I've never owned one of The electric Ratchets. I would love to have the 3/8 one. I think it would help me alot in the side work, project car, and also using it at work. Love your video's cant wait for more content!
I would love this 3/8" unit! I have never had a battery powered ratchet before and i think it would help a ton when i'm working on my car. Love your videos keep up the good work!
Shared on Facebook. 3/8 in a diesel shop working on anything in the Ford F, E and T series 250 up to 650. Mac, international. And equipment skid steers, front loaders and backhoes
We need a 1/4 inch one, my father and I are working on a project car, a Golf MK4 Gti and our tools got stolen including the battery, radio and spare tire. We have learned a lot with your videos and the specific tools VWs need. Cheers from Guatemala.
1/4" I'd be using it every day at work!!!! I've been drooling over this since it was announced and just don't have the money to get it right now. I'm a tech that does a lot of engine repair. I think of any sort of pulley, water pump, timing belt jobs when I think of using this.
Right now, I have my 06 Ridgeline with 471,xxx original miles. Original motor/trans as well. So trying to keep her running while also making sure my wifes 14 Escape is good for her and my son. While also working full time as a Honda Tech in Ann Arbor MI
3/8 " This tool will help with at the shop. Will make my daily service repairs go by faster, and will help me with all my audio and and car speakers build. Dream tool.
I would love the 3/8. I'm a Makita guy, but I've been eyeing these Milwaukee ratchets. I spun a bearing on my 2012 GTI and this would be a great tool to assist with the rebuild. I also picked up an Icon ratchet after seeing your video. It's amazing!
3/8 for work on every day tasks and keeping the new beetle and family bus going. Finding I'm relying more on power tools these days as early onset arthritis sets in more and more in hands wrists hips pelvis and knees. Love your vids, they've helped me with the beetle so much in the last year and a half. Keep up the great work, Steve UK
3/8 Drive! Audi Q5: Differential fluid changes, transmission fluid, and aftermarket bushing inserts. Also shorten the time spent on fastening hardware. Love your videos BTW!
1/4! The amount of times I've had my timing belt out, cam covers off and intake out on my Subaru sti I would love to have a small electric ratchet. Great vid! Love the channel!
I work in body repair and this definitely would come in handy when removing sliding doors for Van's and such also for removing rear bumpers on trucks when you have to get underneath to remove the bolts, and rear taillights would be easier for sure. Thanks for the video
On my 2010 GTI VW Autobahn at the house it just hit a 120,000 mile and Still running like a champ and the 1/4 for sure that's all I own is Milwaukee M12 drill and impact driver and bits too
3/8" Michigan gets pretty cold in the winter. I am planning on spending time working on my 1984 Mercedes 500SE AMG. Nice and quite. No rush. I just got it back on the road last summer after five years but there are things that need attending to. That's the winter plan.
3/8 Im working on both a mk3 98 Jetta TDI, and my daily 05 Passat TDI. Both are getting suspension refreshes. Control arms, tie rod ends, shocks/struts, bushings, ball joints, brakes, engine/trans mounts, and more!
1/4 was just looking at this yesterday, going to use it for exactly what you described BLIND! Love your videos thanks for doing what you do helped me a ton on becoming better tech.
I just recently got into working on my vehicles- an f150 and a Hyundai accent- as a way help with depression. Its great for a sense of accomplishment! 3/8"
I have been holding off buying an M12 ratchet for SUCH a long time. Maybe I won’t have to (IF I win, that is). Two weeks ago I had to complete re-do my cooling system and to get access to many of the fasteners through the grill, and between the radiator and the engine were easy. But to twist the ratchet to remove/install them was impossible. I had to remove the condenser, the oil cooler, the transmission cooler, the power steering cooler, the electric fan/shroud assembly, and then maneuver around the mechanical fan; all to replace the radiator and get to the coolant piping. I find this to happen so many times, I get into a situation where I have to hold the item with one hand, and attempt to remove/install the fastener with the other. Another common place I’ve needed it is around and under the dashboard. Case in point was that same vehicle, I had to remove a BCM that was buried under the dash while laying on my back under the driver’s side.. I had to hold the BCM, put pressure on the wiring loom lock, AND get the 10mm bolts out. Having that 3/8” would have allowed me to make it only a few minute procedure, rather than 30. I guess that’s what will continually happen when working on an 18 year old Jeep. . . Or a 2year old Jeep . . . Or a 14 year old Xterra . . . Or a 3 year old RAM . . . Or anything else my friends need help with . . . Or installing a ceiling fan or toilet in a 42 year old home . . . Or . . . I own several, and for years regularly use, Milwaukee M12 drills/drivers/tools. One of these would be my most coveted tool.
3/8...... auto technician from home. I have the cordless wrench. This would be my next thing to add to my collection. Love 3/8 tools i have basically everything out there thats available in 3/8.
3/8” drive would be my choice since I would use it at the shop. I am a heavy truck mechanic in Canada and electric tools are becoming more and more handy in the industry.
Since I have NO power ratchet yet, I'll be using it on every job. I have a Subaru AND a L5 Jetta to keep it - and me - busy. 3/8 drive would be the bomb.
Currently working on a Nissan silvia S15. Just fitted a new ecumaster emu black ecu to her, with the hopes of getting the car running over winter ready for some summer track sessions next year! I have a few milwaukee products already and absolutely love them!
I would love the 1/4" drive to add to my m12 collection. I work at a powersports shop. We are Polaris dealer but service all major brands. I currently have the original m12 1/4" ratchet along with the m12 3/8" impact and m12 drill. All have served me well the 3 years I've been running them. Thanks Charles!
3/8! I would use it at home to make brake jobs easier and quicker on my Honda Prelude! Plus, I used to work at Home Depot and I never understood the whole craze for Milwaukee tools, but I'm willing to give it a shot!
1/4" drive ... Working on a mk4 R32 (original owner). Still on original brakes. Have all the parts for a refresh, but short on tools. Been putting off the job for months.
3/8" ive been rebuilding the suspension on my 2000 Toyota tundra. and this tool would save me a lot of headache under the truck trying to fight with the air hose if ya ever been their!!!
3/8" No current projects (yet), but once winter gets here work will slow down a bit (lawn care) so I'll get pulled into our shop to fix/winterize any equipment of our's plus do lawn mower tune-ups for our customers. So it'd be getting a lot of use then.
Sweeeet! This would come in handy while my 7 & 10 year old daughters and I do maintenance and minor repairs on our family vehicles. :) I'd love to have either drive size. I'm not picky and I have adapters. :)
Either, that's what adapters are for! But would probably use the 1/4 most. As you mentioned tight spaces on the European cars, everything shakes loose on the Harley, and even handy for the bicycles.
I purchased a 1/4 long reach from snap on a month ago and its now my most used tool. The Milwaukee is just as good and is cheaper. The snap on just feels better and is a little less bulky and can fit in tighter places. In the end it doesn’t matter which one you get, its amazing tool nether the less!
In my opinion it's not worth getting it if all you do all day is oil changes. I get getting it done faster is nice, but most dealers done pay enough to purchase something that fancy to do a simple job as that.
Man I would love the 3/8 drive don't know why I like the smaller drive. this would be perfect for working on my 2010 A4 premium Plus. I have never owned a battery powered ratchet and Milwaukee is the best in my mind! Thank you as always humble mechanic!! 👋👋
3/8 drive extended reach ratchet would work AWESOME on the 3.7L police interceptor explorer timing cover. There are upwards of 25 bolts that are sandwiched between the block and body.
3/8''. I plan to use it to repair Volkswagens that break very often. That means the tool will see a lot of use (practically everyday) and will be put through its paces.
3/8”. I work on all of my families European cars, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, and there is also an old minivan and a 1940 Chevy truck too! This would make life much easier!
3/8 Do all my own work on my and several friends cars. My stable is 05 Mustang GT, 09 Acadia, and 17 F150. Just put my 00 Montana out to pasture. No V-dubs, but I enjoy your vids. Always learning...
3/8" Currently replacing my control arm bushings, stabilizer bushings, brakes and suspension on my 14 TDI SportWagen. This would save my wrists and arms! Keep up the great work! :)
