Milwaukee Gen 2 Mid Torque impact wrench model 2861 w/a 5Ah XC battery failed to remove an unstaked axle nut on a Gen 3 Honda Odyssey. The axle nut is torqued to at least 244 ft-lbs, possibly higher and Northeast U.S. corrosion issues are likely a factor. The nut was pre-treated with Liquid Wrench. The model 2861 is rated at 450 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 600 ft-lbs of "nut-busting" torque.

I think single cams has a similar video, and several impact wrenches fail at this task. It’s something about the Odyssey axel nut that makes it so difficult.

Mine works good, you'd think it should work,the midrange has 600ft lbs nut busting power. The high torque would definitely do the job...bit I'm disappointed the mid range didn't work.

I ended up using a 1990's Japan made Craftsman 1/2" pneumatic impact to remove this axle nut. Unfortunately the footage was unusable. The Milwaukee Mid-Torque is a nice cordless impact but lacks the power for heavy suspension work in areas that have corrosion issues, in such areas the High Torque model is a better option.

Short of it being ACTUALLY over 500ftlbs, the mid torque in 3/8 should have zero issues ever removing the fasteners/ whatever they may be. I have both 2767/2967. But my 2960 is what I typically grab. #mackvolvo

What is the torque of that axle nut? Is that the 2861?
@cardo1111
@cardo1111 4 года назад
The factory spec is 244 ft-lbs, the axle was replaced by a repair shop a few years ago and may have been over-torqued. Yes it is the 2861 model, seems to be a really nice impact but I am disappointed that it wasn't up to this task. I will have to get a bigger impact that won't be so useful for smaller jobs. The Mid Torque at least in this area (roads often salted during the winter months), is great for lug nuts and most brake/suspension work where it will fit, it's compact at 6.7 inches long.

@@johnsylvia3100 if you take 10 cars and this thing can only pull of 3 or 4 axle nuts while struggling it's clearly not made for that job. Not every car you work on is going to have an untouched axle nut or torqued to spec axle nut. It's just not that strong for this.
