Docking. 100%. If you math it out, Cooper survived 12+ Gs for 30 seconds!

It's gotta be Cooper's moment with old Murph in the clinic's bed... just heart wrenching and an amazing, happy and sad end to a very complex but yet amazing movie. The perfect final touch for it.

Coop in the book cases. At first I thought it was happening inside his head, due to the incredible forces of the black hole…like he was hallucinating or something. When I realized it was real and what he was doing was going to have a practical impact on Murph and the world….WOAH! The docking scene is absolutely unreal! Killer moment! “23 Years” destroys me too.

One overlooked but lovely detail is how the robots address their crewmates. TARS knew Brand before.meeting Cooper, and he spent 23 years (minus "a couple of stretches") in the company of Romily, and yet they both remain "Doctor" and "Professor" to him. By contrast, he knew Cooper for the shortest time and introduced himself with a Taser, yet it's "Slick" and "Coop" almost from the get-go. And then there's CASE, the junior robot, who addresses him as "Cooper". Those word choices speak volumes about their characters and their respective relationships with the crew.

Great reaction to a brilliant movie! Fun fact, when they exit the ship on Miller's planet (the water planet) you can hear a ticking in the background. The ticking was spaced exactly 1.25 seconds apart so that each click would be equal to one day passing on Earth.

What's interesting and honestly amazing is that the docking scene takes most of peoples breath away. Hans Zimmer, intentionally chose the organ because it uses air to function as an instrument, in a movie that takes place where there is no air. Losing your breath during the docking scene is almost like the organ took it away 😃

I feel like so many people who are parents respond like they see the situation in such an odd way. If you are standing in front of terrorists and they say "I can shoot your child or I can shoot you", you would understand that you were leaving your child's life, possibly allowing them to feel abandoned, but you are trading your possible future relationship with them, for their LIFE! It's sad that when he comes back that his kids are dead or dying. But She got to grow old! and have grandchildren. everyone there who has grandchildren only does so because he made that sacrifice. And she understands that. It's sad that she had to live through the loss, is it not fair to anybody in this situation. but if I had the chance to save if the entirety of my child's future, 100% I would "abandon" them. To think your children cannot go on and eventually thrive without you is incredible hubris and arrogance. My presence in my child's life is foundational. And you see that still when he goes back to her. She SAVED THE WORLD while missing most of a life with her dad. The influence he could have had in her life just could not beat out the fact that he could give her more of it. This is bigger than the sacrifice of moving to a new country so your children could have a better life. this is everything! And who's not willing to sacrifice their heart so they can to give their children LIT-ER-AL-LY everything????
@SourStrawberrys
@SourStrawberrys 7 месяцев назад
The crazy part is I think Murph was on her death bed 2 years prior to his arrival. She decided to put herself in a deep sleep until he returned, which was two years later. Just so she could stay alive long enough just to see him return home one last time. She only had enough energy to say goodbye.

@markallen9947
@markallen9947 6 месяцев назад
@@SourStrawberrysThere is not concrete evidence that they are the same age but due to time dilation he jumped 23 years on millers planet and another 51 years slingshotting around Gargantua he has passed 74 years. At the end the doctor says he is 124 years old. After millers planet he got the message that they were the same age. Roughly 40. With the 51 year jump that makes 91ish. There is some unknown times/distances traveling in/out of the black hole and back to Saturn. But in my opinion it would be feasible to assume that they would both be 124 years old at the same time. What really seals it for me is the dialogue at the end. Murph says: "Nobody believed me, but I knew you'd come back." Coop: "How?" Murph: "Because my dad promised me." Insinuating that he kept his promise that he would be back and they would be the same age.

It's such an emotional wild ride, and it's one of my favorites. When scientists write fiction, it's almost always a banger (See The Martian, Contact, etc...) I'm an astronomer by trade (Astrometer to be exact) and I love how much this movie gets right in terms of physics. Granted, the last fifteen minutes delve a little deeper into theoretical physics than I'd care to go, but I'm always too busy crying for that to matter. Lol
@kimmycupreacts
@kimmycupreacts 7 месяцев назад
Oh this is very interesting! I’ve been wanting to also know what physicists think of this movie; but as an astronomer, do you think the visuals are accurate because I found them breathtaking.

@@kimmycupreacts They actually took care to follow things that wouldn't have even mattered aside from the few of us who knew our shit. I even saw parallax angles while they were traveling (stars closer moving into relative compared positions to their backgrounds). And yes, the special relativity theory stuff is pretty accurate, except for a planet that close to a supermassive black hole. That planet would have likely been long vaporized by the time it got that close. The friction would have dwindled its O-zone to nothing, so there wouldn't be an atmosphere capable of liquid water.

They spin the ship to provide "artificial" gravity from centrifugal force. Like those rides at the festival that spin fast enough you can stand on the wall. The only way to create "gravity" in space for people on a ship is acceleration, either spinning or moving faster in one direction (like when you get pushed back in your car seat when you accelerate).

New viewer here… Pretty good reaction! This is one of my all time favorite movies! One note of criticism (as with any reactor who does this)… Having the subtitles on can lead to premature reaction to the line, prior to the actual delivery of the line. While I’m just one person, it can be a bit disorienting when you laugh or gasp, etc, in the middle of the line, because you already know what the actor is going to say. Overall, well done! I will definitely be revisiting your channel!

Well, in space, barring something like The Expanses super sweet fusion drives, you're on orbital trajectories. Which means, if you messed up the initial navigation, you're kinda screwed. There's not enough fuel to just go jetting around all willy nilly like in Star Wars or something. So its just a 2 year long ballistic trajectory to saturn, there's nothing TO do except automated processes

49:28 I think what some people miss is Professor Brand and Dr. Mann are the typical Humans and Coop is the idealistic one; the one we all want to be but few actually turn out to be … We are selfish and we lie (even with good intentions) to get people to do what needs to be done, in our eyes. Most of us would have pushed the button to get saved, or chose not to go at all. The hero in a story is special because most of humanity doesn’t behave that way. We’d all like to believe we would, but when the chips are down (in such a way as in these types of stories), we usually make the wrong choice.

So while I mostly agree with you, I'd give an exception to this movie. There's so much to take in that the extra commentary might prevent you from hearing important parts of the film. So I'm perfectly fine, personally, with Little being said for this particular film. Unless you pause the movie every time you want to add input, in that case then it's fine. But that's just me.

People think he is leaving to try to save brand. I don't think brand needs saving, so I don't think that is actually what he is going there to do. That planet is livable so she is there to complete her father's original plan which was to use those eggs, or whatever they were and repopulate. This was the alternate plan they had. Plus why not have two planets with civilan life? I think he is just going there to help and keep her company.
