I love this video so much. I'm 14 - never been a fan of running until last year when I felt uncomfortable with my body. Went on my first 1.75km run, hated it, but kept going. Now I run 14km every Saturday morning, catch a few short runs during the week, and I'm training for Copenhagen half marathon. I want to run the New York marathon when I'm 18. Every Friday night, I watch this video to remind myself why I love running. Thank you, Casey. Your movies and your person inspire me. EDIT: Update July 2020 Hey everyone, I'm really flattered by the attention my comment got! I hope others persist with their running goals! As some have estimated, I'm almost 19. When I initially wrote the comment, I was navigating through issues of my self-image and trying to live healthy without being excessive about it - this struggle continued until I was 17. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to make it to New York yet (further complicated by corona). I am hoping to study my Masters in North America in a couple of years time, and if that becomes reality my plan is to come to New York in November to run the marathon. If not, I'm still determined to accomplish it before 25. I still run and I love it more than I did at 14, and this video is still as motivating as ever! EDIT: Update August 2023 22 now. Still love this video. Still love running. I train marathons now and I'm going to apply for the 2024 NYC Marathon draw, if I don't get picked, my aim is another Northeastern marathon in the autumn of 2024. Hopefully my next update has good news :) EDIT: Update August 2024 Turned 23 last week. I just signed up for my first marathon - Copenhagen May 2025!
Great story! Me too I started when I was 14, ran for about a year went from 0 to 5 km. Then I stopped for two years. Exactly one year ago I started running again when I was 16. Had to start at the beginning again but within half a year I ran my first half marathon! Now I'm 17 and I'm going to run a marathon within half a year :) Good luck with the training! Greetings from Holland
scottishfanta Okay, this is my way of doing it but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. I just run and keep going. Every week challenge yourself by doing something new or going further. I ran 5 km and it felt good, next day I thought I'm going to run 10 km and I did it! I was completely sore for the next few days but I had done it. Next time the 10 km was easier and within a few weeks I could run it easily. Sometimes by running a new route you force yourself to run further. If you start to get sore of get tired/thirsty just keep going. Running is more mental than physical I think. Running is a way of clearing my mind and my brain power will just make me forget the pain. I hope this helps you! Good luck :)
Maarten van Geene Thanks for replying!!! The furthest I'm able to run without stopping is 3.5km but when I reach that limit I'll be sure to keep your advice in mind and just going!!! Thanks again :D
scottishfanta No problem :) Just remember once you have finished your run and you think you can go on, just go on for a litlle longer. The distance also has to do with your body type, age, weight and stuff like that.
That was very inspirational. Casey, you're the best. Seriously, I mean it. In the past few years, I've turned my life around in a lot of areas. I went back to school, I taught myself how to get work done, and relearned how to learn. You've inspired me to stop being a lazy bones and start running again. I ran a lot in high school, and afterward,m until I blew out my knee. I kinda gave up after that, and in more than just exercise. I dropped out of school, I drank a lot, gained a lot of weight. I'm now 315lbs. But I'm going to do it. I'm going to get back to my best. I'm going to be better. Casey, thanks. Seriously. Thank you.
I know that feeling. Having to get out of the house, no matter when. I walk or ride my bike alot at night, and man the things I've come across... It's amazing.
seal3081 Came here because of stolen Coffee Mug, I'm working as a detective for W.V.A. Waffle house and after 4 years of investigation I've finally found it. 0:16
Can't get over how awesome this video is. I wonder if non-runners would get this video. I feel like it really captures what it means to be a runner. We all play these games, or at least I do!
Casey hi! I watched this video 3 years ago and I always wanted to be a runner but I didn't know how to start and I didn't have enough motivation to do so. Now after 3 years I'm running 30 minutes a day every other day and it's been a great two months of time doing this. And this is all because of your video, your passion and your influence! Thank you so much for helping me start running! 🙏🏻
Stevo Canuck Love Vancouver the city, BC overall and even the old stick emblem on the jersey. As for the Canucks...well that's another story ;) Enjoy the hockey season and running.
I love running, and when I watched your video, I totally identified myself with the message you're trying to get across... awesome video, editing and footage!
Thanks to you Casey I resumed my regular long runs in 2018. Was on and off in 2017 but you've inspired me to fall in love with this simplest stress buster of all time.
This video made me want to run 2 years ago and finally now after the long quarantine I started my journey to running. Casey changed my mind about running and I'm finally doing it 🎉🏃♂️
Casey this is awesome! And I love your story about how your came back from your accident. When I was younger doctors told me I would never be able to run or play sports because I was born with in turned hips, but I run cross country and track for my high school, and I love it so much. And if I ever got the chance to talk to you that would be awesome.
Casey - I adore you so much you are the reason today that i can run for 3.25 miles in 30 minutes.. i dont have word to describe you how thankful am 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Watched you video a couple of hours ago. You made a change in my life, CaseyNeistat! ... I realized that I have a lot of excuses, too... for not running... Got a pair of sneaker just now and I'll start the first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you!
This guy was living in 2021 9 years before, the content is dope, not even today's RU-vidrs can give this quality content. Your editing game is phenomenal.
Casey I have no idea if you'll ever read this but I just want to say thank you! I recently got back into running and I kid you not you're a great inspiration. I love it in your vlogs when you include clips of your run, it pumps me and motivates me to continue. Thank you, keep it up. Hopefully one day we get to go out on a run 😄 Gabby from Los Angeles
I run cross country and track in high school and when im out running in 100 degree heat in the summer the things you think about are exactly what I am thinking. Great video, keep it up
This just shows you at least one person‘s thoughts when they’re running we all have this he said in another video that he’s come up with his best ideas when he is running and that is the same for me the best idea is the best plans when you’re running and when I’m running I think about other runs that I’ve had that were great to help motivate me if I’m having a difficult run. You’re not a lunatic Casey you’re one of us
Casey your videos inspired me to run again. I git sidelined by injury for over a year now. Watching you make time to run inspired me to wake up the 3:30 am, run, read my Bible, the make it to work at 6:00 am. Thanks Casey.
Just seeing this for the first time. Can’t believe RU-vid never promoted this to me for all the running videos I’ve watched. This is inspirational but more importantly shows how addictive running is. Can be so bad. That’s why I keep my addiction to only doing a half every day and only waking at 0330 to get mine. It’s not ruining my life. It is my life. I want more running time. Every time I stop I want more. MORE
This is where the style of Casey is already shaping to what we know and love. Lots of cuts, angles and most of all THE STORY! I guess that accident gave you time to reflect and observe. Love your stuff.
Needed this, recent college grad who ran at the collegiate level. Decided to take a hiatus just for a break, and just couldn't find the motivation to come back to a sport I love.
I would. ! y/o, 6/o there still up there for a reason. I just discovered him recently it's a way to understand the current activity. Life's a journey, not a destination. lol.
tmay x That's because he is slowing down to a stop, you use your heel to brake. Totally get why heel striking is bad but casey is definitely not a heel striker, watch the rest of the footage especially 1.18 - 1.20 in half speed and you'll see he lands on the flat of his foot..
i'm a regular RUNNER... whenever i dnt feel like running, i watch this video u made casey..... others inspiration might be BOLT, bt u'r mine. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CASEY
i dont know how many times i have to say this but your vids have a way of presenting that i find original there just amoazing keep making them please never stop
I'm the opposite, running is one of the few times where my mind just sorta blanks out. I'm not thinking of anything! Sorta a weird meditation. One of the reasons I love it
Great shortclip! I relate to those quasy-excuses. Don´t like it running as much as when it still dark, otherwise it feels late, the world is moving on and I just starting the day...
