I remember growing up, my parents had such a negativity towards "exploring new things" as you say, or finding what you like to do. I had to live a life that had to be accepted by my parents who generally have a very negative attitude towards everything in life. The way to success according to them was go to school, get good grades and life magically works out from there. I got good grades, besides that, I achieved nothing. I'm approaching thirties and am a literal failure in life. I was extremely abused and neglected as a child, and today my parents tell my it's all my fault, when growing up I literally had no saying in anything, or else I got beaten up. God bless you, I hope you keep on growing and reach all your life goals that you've currently set for yourself and those that may arise in the future
