How Did We Get Here is a hidden challenge in Minecraft where you need to have all obtainable status effects with you at the same time!
The challenge gets harder in this update: Tricky Trials, bringing 6 more effects to the list:
- Trial Omen
- Raid Omen
- Infested
- Oozing
- Weaving
- Wind Charged
To complete this advancement, prioritize setting up your base for the challenge.
○ Bring a shulker to the Overworld (It is much easier to transport now as you can finally use leads on boats to drag them with you)
○ Bring a dolphin to your base and name it (Make sure it settles in a half-slab to prevent it from drowning) [surely the most annoying one to move than the shulker in my opinion]
○ Bring a villager to your base and give it a bed or a workstation (job block claimed by a villager qualify it as a village for the Raid Omen to trigger)[You will have to move it 2 chunks away from base in order for the Raid Omen and Bad Omen to separate, Bad Omen always converts to Raid Omen whenever you are 2 chunks near a village, so distance is needed to trigger both at once]
○ Bring a warden to your base and put wool around the portal to trap it as well as prevent sounds to cause it to get angry. You can also get out with ease, and it won't follow you as long as the wools are blocking its height. (You will have to make another portal and break the one where the warden is so you can safely transfer from place to place without agitating it)
Brew 13 potions:
[All required Awkward Potion except Weakness, which uses water bottle instead]
[For faster pacing, convert all potions to splash potions using gunpowder]:
- Wind Charged (Breeze Rod)
- Weaving (Cobweb)
- Oozing (Slime Block)
- Infested (Stone)
- Night Vision (Golden Carrot)
- Invisibility (Golden Carrot + Fermented Spider Eye)
- Speed (Sugar)
- Slowness (Sugar + Fermented Spider Eye)
1- Strength (Blaze Rod)
- Weakness (Fermented Spider Eye)
- Slow Falling (Phantom Membrane)
- Jump Boost (Rabbit's Foot)
- Pufferfish (Water Breathing)
Blocks needed:
○ Conduit (Crafted with 8 nautilus shells surrounding 1 Heart of the Sea, surround it with prismarine type blocks for conduit power)
○ Dispenser (put spectral arrows inside and place a button to activate it and get glowing)
○ Beacon (kill a Wither Boss to get the Nether Star to craft a beacon, place it in the middle of a 3x3 diamond/iron/gold/emerald blocks and select the Haste effect then spend using any of the ingots (diamond/iron/gold/emerald)
○ Wither Rose (Obtained by letting the Wither Boss kill a mob, and is only placed during the challenge only, it is the last item you should place as it is the shortest amongst all effects)
Food and Drinks:
- Enchanted Golden Apple (Can be commonly looted in Ancient Cities or Ominous Vaults, this grants you 4 effects at once)
- Pufferfish (Can be obtained by fishing, this grants you 3 effects at once)
- Suspicious Stew (Crafted using a bowl, red and brown mushroom and an azure bluet, this grants you the blindness effect)
- Ominous Bottle (Can be obtained on vaults or killing Illager Captains, this grants you the ominous effects, so you are going to need 3 bottles)
Contain your How Did We Get Here? Chest with the 13 potions, 2 Ominous Bottles, 1 Enchanted Apple, 1 Pufferfish, 1 Blindness Stew, and 1 Wither Rose
Now that you have everything ready in the base:
- You will have to bring another 2 ominous bottles with you, so you can trigger a raid and win it to get Hero of the Village
- Then drink another ominous bottle and head directly to the Trial Chamber and get the Trial Omen, head towards the ocean monument and let the Elder Guardian curse you with Mining Fatigue.
- Quickly head back to base and be sure to not eat anything and your hunger bar needs to deplete at least 4 from it in order to be able to eat the food needed to complete the challenge.
- Now that you have the 3 effects active, it's time to splash yourself with all the potions
- Drink the ominous bottle and walk towards the villager, but only so far until you get raid omen, then run back to base.
- Drink another ominous bottle.
- Eat an enchanted golden apple.
- Wait for the shulker to hit you.
- Hit the dispenser to get glowing
- Eat the pufferfish while in a swimming position
- Eat the suspicious stew while in a swimming position
- Place the wither rose

P.S. Sorry about the recording, playing on a broken dated laptop for years now. Also I should have gotten milk first and search cows while I had the Hero effect. I should not be eating cooked cod during my travel on the nether roof, that was dumb. Well, glad I have a totem to clear out those effects.
