All the data/visualizations I used in the video can be accessed with the reddit link in the video's description. This includes the versions map, sign data, newchunk data, version timeline, etc.
Timeline data means the map could be converted into a 4D-Map, with time as an axis, in which you could then fill in the empty space with chunks that weren't generated at the time they would have been possible. You could then timetravel around 2b2t and it's altchunks that never were!
Slight correction, there hasn't been a void filling plugin for years. Hausemaster has sometimes manually filled certain areas, but no server wide one, at least not in the last few years
Someone found my 1st temp base within the past 1.5 years and instead of nuking it, they corrected some of the names on my signs. I discovered that thanks to this world download. What a fascinating world this server truly is.
I'm super excited about this for many reasons. With the test 2b2t server running 1.18.2, it's been cool to take this world and convert it, and explore the new caves underneath y0 throughout the spawn region. You'd be surprised how many double spawners and interesting areas are under well known locations! Coupled with mods like Bobby and Distant Horizons, freecam exploration has been a treat within the 256k spawn region on the test server. Stash hunting and terrain exploring is going to get better regardless of server view-distance, and it's been fun to get ahead of the update and have a look at what key 2b2t areas are going to look like 👀
I love 2b2t simply for being like a super compressed time capsule. It's just been about a decade, and yet there's still so much history to it that you could spend your entire life combing through it. Huge props to the valiant efforts of the mapping team 👍
Neat video man, I downloaded the 256k download on my server a while back but it was such a hassle to have around and I eventually got rid of it. Pretty interesting the kinds of data you can collect from it!
Looking at the big oceans of 2b2t will never tire. Travelling them was a lot of fun There was another server that had equally huge oceans that I played on a few times, forgot the name of it, some factions server.
Sal, I think that in Beta 1.2, the way a world was saved was change, so the world could be from 2010, but they were converted in 2011 and the app can't detect that conversion
Could you elaborate? The world format was changed in beta 1.3 to use mcregion, but this is not important as the conversion was basically flawless and didn't cause any noticeable change in the data.
@@Yqe- what he means is the file type changes in older versions, on my singleplayer world i can look at the region files and see the ones that are from beta just because of the file type. they dont convert automatically so changing them manually probably confused whatever they used to "confirm" the reset
@@CapDude File type changes yes, but this has nothing to do with the blocks themselves. The bedrock pattern at 2b2t spawn can only have been generated in craftbukkit beta 1.2. Literally there is no other known version that generates it
Obviously, because nothing that happens on the server is influencial enough to cause anything in real life to change, and the only reason for it to be discussed at all would be so specific taht no books could be written and any classes would take time off of other stuff
Makes me glad I built my base over a million blocks away from spawn. All the bases within the 256k maps will be found very easily now with these types of search programs for the map download. I really hope they don't make a map download with an even bigger area over millions of blocks from spawn, as a lot of people have their bases a few million blocks away from spawn and this would leak a lot of bases.
yeah that isnt happening anytime soon i think, a 1 million block map would be like 16 terabytes i think and basically no one has this much storage lying around
0:32 the download speed for torrents are based on seeders, and sadly most of the torrent community stop seeding after downloading, your 1gbps internet speed hasnt really anything to do with this
Not gonna lie, with the music, this sounds rather wholesome and nice overall. Like a fun little project... even if 1TB of data is too fooking much for even me. My PC would die and never download that ever lol
I love seeing the large data collections visualized in graphs. Holy crap it does something to my brain lol. t’s so cool seeing so many random people create basically a form of art just by playinggvcvcwcaaaa the game over the yea bc rs. It creates patterns w TVh h rq mg s and what not and gah I love looking at stuff like that, freaking cool as heck

I have a terabyte drive in my PC but imma not about to delete everything to download this. I'd buy a 4 TB NAS to make sure i could explore it with good performance.
when i posted the preview video of this on the 2b2t reddit he not only deleted the post but he banned me from the subreddit and removed all of my posts over 6 years
@@screayx Whilst I dont disagree with you but people have calculated that Hausemaster cannot earn that much from the server given the true amount of money it costs to upkeep it. However there are other calculations that people have done that could mean he Generates a Net Profit of up to 750k Per Year which is insane
The seed was corrupted at one point, at least according to JudgeHolden's comic, back in the day. Feb 2011 also lines up with various accounts I've heard from really really really old players who also would say something to the effect of "there was a server reset about a month after 2b2t started" Which would be January 2011. If there have been multiples, then that's not too shocking either. Either way, amazing video sal. You are a treasure man.
Who said that? The only active 2010 player I managed to contact doesn't remember any reset. Having more first hand accounts of it happening is very good, since currently the only counter evidence is said 2010 players who claim that they don't remember any happening. The seed was corrupted in august 2011, and then once again changed sometime during 1.0, before being changed back to the original seed in january 2012. Sometime during 1.5 there was also another seed used before being reverted to the original, however we don't know the dates for this.
@@Yqe- I don't remembe who because I talked to them about this stuff in 2012/2013. Most of the ancient players left by then. I think xcc2 could vouch for a seed corruption/map reset though. Maybe.
@@Jacktherippa84 Every source lines up with seed changing in august 2011, this is undisputable. And chunks using 2 other seeds also exist, we have cracked the world seed in these chunk trails. Hausemaster said on facepunch that the seed was changed back to the original in january 2012, but other than those 2 dates we don't really have anything
That would take time. Seeing as the download of this map took some time too and this is not the whole map. Certainly would need to be a backdoor that wont be found as quick.
HEY SALC1!!!! When you torrent something, your connection can only download the file as fast as the other person can upload it, hence 2MB/s on a gigabit connection :P Hope you learned something about peer to peer file sharing!
Any of you guys would be interested in a server where I host the downloaded map so you don’t have to download it your self? Maybe as a Sandbox with creative mode permissions for proper exploration or Fly permissions and other permissions that would be needed to explore the map easily. By the time your download of the map was done, there were 20 bases griefed, 2 new dupes and Fit made a video on the newest gamebreaking bug weaponizing a piece of wood
@@Yqe- I think they mean you can type a different seed and get the same world as another seed. There are also things like shadow seeds and sister seeds
Yes and its likely called a shadow seed.take a positive seed number and simply add a negative instead and it should gen exactly the same way if im not mistaken
