Continuing to supply information on missed glitches (they are mostly about cactus xD) - In the first version that added them, cactus can be placed anywhere like any regular block. - Torches can be placed on leaves if you switch to Fast graphics. - Also relating to cactus, you can place any block anywhere overriding placement checks, if you place that block in water (replacing water with it). This works for a while and even into beta. - You can make a wood duplication contraption with boats and cactus. If a boat collides with a cactus, it breaks, and if it collides with four cactus at once, it drops four times as much planks and sticks, getting you more planks than it is used to craft it. Also, my favorite block obtainable in alpha is the stone slab, i think it's iconic for the era.
3:20 That brings back memories! I had totally forgotten that we used to use soul dirt for that purpose. Btw thanks for calling it the hell dimension, as it really was
Ya agreed, the other issue is no block sounds, this was due to the sound files Being stored on a web page, and that web page being hard coaded into the game, now that the webpage has been removed, the game cant find the sounds, this changes in beta.
I would like to give some great tip to everyone wanting to play alpha Minecraft, So if you have Minecraft java, you go to settings and scroll down to "play historical versions" then you can play alpha and beta Minecraft! Hope this help!
Thankyou :), the program I use is called MCEdit, but due to the different save formats(eg anvil, Mcreagion, ect) you need to get the one that's compatible for the version you are in.
As an alpha player I cannot stress enough how horrid the ghasts are... They make the Nether almost unplayable. I generally only ever go when I need glowstone, but since the recipe is so unbalanced in these versions, I have to REALLY want to use it to make the trip justifiable. Also, bricks are my favorite block in alpha
The sound files were stored on the mojang website that was hard coded into the game, meaning if you load up those versions now there are no sounds, at the time i didnt realise there was beta craft which is why the only ambient sounds are the ghasts half way through, the sound files were moved into the games code shortly after alpha to what we have today
