All music originally created by C418. Inspired by The Caretaker.
STAGE 1 : 00:00
Here we experience the first signs of memory loss. This stage is most like a beautiful daydream.
The glory of old worlds and recollection. The last of the great days.
00:00 - A1 - It's just a burning nether
04:00 - A2 - We don't have many torches
06:43 - A3 - Late afternoon mining
08:17 - B1 - Worlds that are beautiful and transient
09:55 - B2 - Into each others mines
11:26 - B3 - My world will be deleted in joy
STAGE 2 : 13:02
The second stage is the self realisation and awareness that something is wrong with a refusal to accept that. More effort is made to remember so memories can be more long form with a little more deterioration in quality. The overall personal mood is generally lower than the first stage and at a point before confusion starts setting in.
13:02 - C1 - A losing dragon battle is raging
13:55 - C2 - Misplaced in mines
16:38 - C3 - What does it matter how my diamond pick breaks
17:25 - C4 - Glimpses of diamond in trying times
19:03 - C5 - Surrendering to creepers
20:37 - D1 - I still feel as though I am Steve
21:28 - D2 - Last moments of light before night falls
22:51 - D3 - Tools breaking
23:34 - D4 - The night ahead feels lonely
STAGE 3 : 25:28
Here we are presented with some of the last coherent memories before confusion fully rolls in and the grey mists form and fade away. Finest moments have been remembered, the musical flow in places is more confused and tangled. As we progress some singular memories become more disturbed, isolated, broken and distant. These are the last embers of awareness before we enter the post awareness stages.
25:28 - E1 - Back there Steve
27:44 - E2 - And pick breaks
29:51 - E3 - Hidden caves buried deep
31:12 - E4 - Deleted bewildered World
31:42 - F1 - Dark cave without lucidity
34:10 - F2 - An empty world never loaded
35:44 - F3 - Mournful cameraderie of your dog
STAGE 4 : 38:43
Post-Awareness Stage 4 is where serenity and the ability to recall singular memories gives way to confusions and horror. It's the beginning of an eventual process where all memories begin to become more fluid through entanglements, repetition and rupture.
38:43 - G1 - Stage 4 Post Awareness Confusions
46:06 - H1 - Stage 4 Post Awareness Confusions
49:38 - H2 - Temporary bliss state
STAGE 5 : 50:49
Post-Awareness Stage 5 confusions and horror. More extreme entanglements, repetition and rupture can give way to calmer moments. The unfamiliar may sound and feel familiar.
Time is often spent only in the moment leading to isolation.
50:49 - I1 - Stage 5 Advanced plaque entanglements
58:14 - J1 - Stage 5 Sudden time regression into isolation
STAGE 6 : 1:03:18
The End is without description.
1:03:18 - K1 - Your first world fades away

@@Lrizu Haha I remember that too ! Mineshafts, villages and desert temples didn't exist. When there was only oak. Sheeps were always white. I also remember some of the fun stuff like use two blocks of snow with a stone slab on the top and an iron door to imitate a fridge. Going out at night was dangerous. There was no fishing poles too, it came later. When there was the fishing pole I did a little caban near a lake and started fishing. It was so chill.

God, Stage 6… the way you can just faintly make out melodies that never seem to finish, never resolve, and then they fade back into the ambiguity of the ambience that swallows you whole. Every note is so fleeting, your mind jumps to grasp it, but its already gone… because by the time you make sense of it, its just a burning memory.

This actually terrifies me, and here’s why: the caretaker album was meant to represent an elderly person with Dementia or Alzheimer’s in the silent era, as they try to recall old ballroom music from the 30s, then this represents what will happen to gen Z in 60 years. As we try to recall old Minecraft music, or something that is meaningful to us, as our mind slowly fades away.

I feel like the achievment would be rewarded to people who rejoin their old world after not playing on it for at least 10 years. It would make everything in the world look significantly older as soon as you got it. Vines would grow instantly to their lowest possible point. Mobs wouldn’t attack you, as though they had forgotten why they were attacking you in the first place. No natural Zombies would spawn, and all spawners would be empty. All skeletons are replaced with wither skeletons. Endermen would have moved so many blocks around, that every world looks amplified. Diamond ore would be much more common, but coal ore would be nowhere to be seen. All grass is replaced with mycelium and mushrooms. Your chests would be empty. All passive mobs would be extinct, including pets like dogs. Trees would be very scarce. All placed blocks would have reverted to what they once were: diamond blocks to ore, netherite blocks to ancient debris, beacons would even be replaced by withers, but they wouldn’t even try to attack you. Soul sand and soul soil would revert to normal sand and mycelium. The nether would be flooded with lava, and the bedrock ceiling would be the only safe place in the nether, even though it always has been. The player, however, would be perfectly fine. Everything you had before would still be there, in the state it was. And, if you had the right tools, you could effectively restore your world to what it was before. All you need to do to begin is plant a sapling on a dirt block separate from the mycelium so that it wouldn’t destroy it. And then, once it’s grown, you do what all of us have done before, Chop down your first tree.

When I was 7, I had a Minecraft world I played on almost every day. It was in Pocket Edition, so it was nothing special. I, however, truly treasured it. I fondly remember the big cube made out of layered ore blocks, which I loved so much. One day, I wanted to make some sort of cat farm, so I arranged spawners with ocelot spawn eggs in a circle. Not too long after I placed them, they started to spawn too many ocelots for my iPad to keep up with. I couldn't destroy them, so (I thought) I had to delete the world. After deleting it, I was heartbroken. A world I had spent so much time on, gone. Of course, I never got that world back, though recently I did look through my old worlds on my iPad. I can't remember anything else about it, though I doubt any of it was worth remembering.

The most unnerving difference between the feeling that the Caretaker's work and this give me is that instead of a character developing dementia, I am. It's a much more personal experience. Instead of looking into the mind of a dementia patient- hearing their memories, feeling their feelings- I instead look into myself and see my own memories, imagining them slowly drift away. I decided to play Minecraft listening to this, and cried. I cried a lot, walking by all the houses I've built. Smelting the ores I've mined. Remembering the friends I've made. At the end of the day, all of it will be gone someday. But now is not that someday. Feed your dogs. Mine some diamonds. Kill some mobs. Build something nice for someone you care about. So long as we can mine and craft, there is still memories to hold on to.

You can’t remember who built the bridge on the river and who built the massive tower in the village. You can’t remember anyone who helped mine, build, and grow the crops. As zombies start to swarm you, you had forgotten to repair your diamond sword, forgotten to bring food, and armor deteriorating by the second. “dad, we found something,” someone walks up to you, and you stare at their face for a long time, trying to remember why they feel familiar. they called you dad? you don’t recognize them. “it’s this game, it was huge when you were younger apparently. minecraft?” you remain silent, trying to wrap your head around this conversation, but you’ve already forgotten how this person knows you, why they’re in your room. mine craft. the words sound right together, but their meaning slips your mind. “here, you can play it on this!” play what? he puts something on your lap, a bright light shining into your face. “you use this to move the cursor-“ he takes your hand to move it but you snatch it back. you don’t know him, why is he touching you? your face twists in disgust. why does he look so hurt? “uh... ok. well you use this to move the cursor on the screen, I can start a world for you,” he moves something on the bed next to you, and the little arrow on the screen jumps. he clicks something and suddenly the screen changes, new ambient music plays. it sounds familiar, why does this all feel so familiar, you can’t remember ever touching something like this. “there, I started a world. you use the W, A, S, D keys to move around, and you can aim where you’re looking with the mouse,” he leans back, smiling. who the hell is he, why is he in here. you stare in distrust at the screen, but something twists in your gut when you catch the scenery. for the first time in what feels like ages, you start to remember. you remember wood planks and a house you spent hours building and- and it’s slipped your mind yet again. why can’t you remember? why did it feel so familiar if you can’t remember it? you touch the keys, pressing W and you move forward. the sound of the character walking over the blocky ground brings something fleeting back. “space to jump” the man in the chair next to you says as you run straight against a block. he leans over to press a key and your character hops. slowly, music fades in, and again something rushes back, only to leave just as quickly. it leaves an empty longing in your chest. it’s on the tip of your tongue. what this game called? what’s this called? you take your hands away from the screen, folding them together as you listen to the ambient music, quietly humming. it sparks something again and again it is quickly put out. a repetitive cycle of almost grasping the wispy thoughts diving in and out. you feel intense longing for something... you’re not sure what, but you miss it dearly. your character stares at a blocky pile, a mountain, and your stomachs aches with the familiarity you can’t place. you keep reaching for your thoughts. they keep slipping through your fingers. who is he? what’s this called?

The reason I have yet to listen to the actual full EATEOT album despite the fact that I really want to: People say you are supposed to listen to it in one full sitting without interruption for the best experience. I couldn't even make it through this 1 hour version without interruption. I started listening to this whilst playing Minecraft hardcore. The further in I went the more I would find myself doing nonsensical things and just kinda sitting there. At stage 5 I closed Minecraft and just watched the screen. I was in the middle of stage 6 and my mom walked in complaining at me about something and she left pretty fast. That already kinda killed the momentum a little, but then like a minute later she walked in complaining again and asking why I was staring at a static image. I tried to make her leave and told her that it was meant to be listened to in one sitting, to which she asked if it was for school, and I replied, "No." She then said that it wasn't important then. That pretty much killed all the momentum, and the ending didn't have nearly as big an impact as if she didn't interrupt me twice. Sucks to suck.

I love that they put Sweden as the ending music. It reminds you that your life is about to end and everything you had before is way in the past. And it makes you cry because you had such a good life. Always being a good kid, growing into a teen not doing anything bad, and then an adult. Where you had kids, love and most importantly, life. Knowing that you are at rest, you rise up into the sky. The only memory that you remember.

I had an idea for a Minecraft mod based on the idea (I have no idea how to make it, it's just an idea) Stage 1: You start up the game. Everything is normal at first. Occasionally, there are blocks where there shouldn't be, for example a single wool block in a tree. Also, mobs look slightly off but it's nothing concerningly weird. There are maybe twenty minutes of silence in between songs to give you time to build. Stage two: The randomness of blocks becomes more noticeable, the colors are less saturated, mobs look a little stranger, some words are misspelled, you can't see as far into the distance. A little less time in between songs but there's also a couple more. Stage three: There is a fog making it harder to see, sometimes blocks don't break when you want them to, crafting guide is completely gone, many misspelled words, mobs are more distorted and make strange noises, items in your inventory randomly disappear, some blocks are gone, other blocks randomly appear, the block texture becomes bizarre, villagers trade you nothing, similar amount of time as stage two Stage four: the fog thickens, jump button becomes crouch, all mobs spin in a circle, crafting does not work anymore, it takes longer to break blocks, block texure is random and makes no sense, lasts same amount of time Stage five: all blocks look dull and the same, lots of blocks in the sky, there is no sun or moon, time does not exist to you anymore, mobs are unrecognizable, tools instantly break, time between songs is less, the end is rapidly approaching Stage six: nothing, there's nothing, your world has completely faded away, you are left in the void utterly alone, You freeze, Sweden starts playing. The song ends and your world deletes itself. I would really like to see this become a real thing but I have no idea how to code or mod. I could help with the texture art :3

Post your Minecraft memories of the good days here. I always love to hear Minecraft stories from other people. Here goes mine. All the way back in 2009-2010 3 friends, my sister and I had a server and we’d just build and do random shit on there. There wasn’t any real ending to Minecraft at that point. I still remember when we went on a conquest for diamonds but would couldn’t find diamonds for a god damn week lmao. We built a spleef arena, we built a massive clusterfuck of a treehouse that only children could come up with, and the best part was we made a secret party room. We originally built a shack on top of it but someone burnt it down because they were playing with a flint and steel lol. Don’t play with fire really made sense then lmao. But the party room was made out of gold walls and a diamond disco floor with a juke box in the middle. The room was three blocks high so we placed a one block high table against the walls of the room and placed a cake on every block. We made a party room where we’d be surrounded by cakes. We’d always play the cat music disk because back then there was only that or that 12 disk (was it 12? I forgot lol). In the end our world consisted of two cities conveyed by a subway line created by yours truly. Doing all of that in survival was hard lol. For the massive stuff we used server commands. It’s like phone numbers. Back in the day we had to remember item codes for certain blocks we wanted. Creative mode didn’t exist yet. Hell there were even cheat mods lmao. Anyone remember those? Pretty sure the item ID 5 was for oak planks lol. /give U_chan 5 64 boom got a stack of wood. The sad thing is my friend was the server owner. He stopped playing Minecraft around 2012 and I haven’t met him since because I moved away, then to a different country. Now all I have is the sweet old memories of what used to be the center of my world all those years back haha. Damn those were the days. If anyone wants to play some Minecraft hit me up lol.

I vaguely remember some 7 or so years ago, I joined a small factions server. I didn't know anyone on the server yet, so I decided to make a boat and sail across the ocean, get as far away as I could to make a place to call home. I reached a very steep mountain, it looked almost like a spire. I climbed all the way up, and seeing it was in the shore of the big ocean I sailed I decided to bridge my way back above the waters and start building a floating base. At first it wasn't much, just a small floating box with no way up, I'd have to use /home to get back to base, I liked it that way, it made it feel safer. I kept exploring the spire next to base, got coal, iron, even lava once I dug deeper. I made a cobblestone generator on the base and started replacing the blocks with stone bricks, sailed to a desert through the ocean below and gathered sand for windows. I can't recall why but I decided to adapt my floating box into a smallish spaceship, out of stone bricks, lol. A circular cockpit where I placed my enchanting table, brewing stands and a handful of chests, the starting box turned into the hallway with many furnaces and a nether portal that connected with four small farms in small rooms beside it, mushrooms, nether warts, wheat and potatoes. It wasn't complex, but I liked it a lot. By now a couple months have passed, exams are coming up and I can't spend a lot of time working on the base, so my visits to the ship go from every two days to once a week or so, slowly but surely I start playing less often on the server. A big time gap passes, roughly a month or so, and I decide to hop back into the server to check on the base again now that I have a week of vacations between terms. But I only come back to see a battered version of my ship. Broken windows, missing blocks on the walls an floors, brewing stands and enchanting table gone, farms emptied out, the only things left were a couple assorted blocks on some chests and the stuff that I had in my inventory. For a couple days I fixed the ship, repaired the walls, fixed the windows, cleared the dirt pillars that the raiders used to get to my ship. I knew my ship was compromised, any moment more people would come until only a shell of it would be left. But I couldn't leave it in shambles, if I were to say my last farewell to the base I cared the most back then, I wanted to at least say my goodbye to the ship I remembered, not the ruins I saw when I rejoined.

Is it okay that I can share some Minecraft memories from a few years ago?, I'm just gonna say mine I remember joining a server, the server's name was Brokenlens A few years after I joined the server, I was playing one of the minigames until I saw a team of dumb edgy teens with the same skin, they went to my team's base and attacked it and I think that they were bullying me when I was trying to build up and escape from them to the point it made me cry.

Yooo (big) story time (Ignore english, im bad at it ;-;) It happened (i think) 6-7 years ago. I finally somehow downloaded minecraft in my tablet. Afters some time only watching gameplay of it, i was really happy when i finally had the chance to play it. I was at a friend's house, he downloaded it for me. We finally had the chance to play with eachother! I called the world "Eu e Meu Amigo" ("Me and my Friend"). We spawned in a big field. We got wood, and settled in a big (at the time) cave. I remember when he didnt like to cut every wood in those huge Oak trees, so we (i was lazy too :v) just had a giant amout of floating leaves outside our cave. I even remember going to his room, while he was in another, just so we could use the chat and have a diferent experience :). Unfortunutely i had to go home of course, but i still kept playing it. I made a small beetroot farm, 5x5 with water in a shape of a + (i think?). After some time i made a little house outside the cave, in the field. It was a retangular house made of oak, the roof made of glass, with the house being only 3 blocks tall. I got a dog too (and a cat, i think)! I remember making two bedrooms too, one with blue carpet and the other with red carpet (our favourite colours). I never explored further than 100 blocks from my house, i had fear of the forest and getting lost (even with that thingy that tracks your spawn point). I eventually made a nether portal, because i thought it was cool. I dont actually remember entering the nether, but im pretty sure i did, at least one time. I remember cooking chicken to my friend, i making glass for the roof... it was so heart warming and still is. Sadly, my tablet broke, and you couldnt see half of the screen, and eventually, it just wouldnt start anymore. I just... left the tablet alone and forgot abiut it... at some point, it just desappeared (my dad probably got rid of it)... what i would give to have that world back... those memorys... lost. I still play minecraft today, not as much as my friend unfortunetly, but i still always make two beds in my house, just in case we happen to play again :)

The original EATEOF didn't have too much impact on me, (I've only listened to the first two albums, for now they just sound like some nice music) I suppose that's not because I'm not someone who lived in the 1920's. But this... this. Oh my god. I was 5 seconds in and already felt the overwhelming sense of- dread. I remember being 8, playing Minecraft for endless hours on my dad's Xbox 360, and this is just extremely uncomfortable. Best way I can spend the first day after my birthday... Edit. 30 minutes in. F1 is so vaguely familiar to me. I think it's the overworld theme... I think. I closed my eyes, tried to recall what the original sounded like, vaguely did. But the firework-kinda popping noise interrupted it. It doesn't help that I don't have good memory to begin with. I can't remember anything before the age of 8, and my memories from when I was 9-12 are so blurry I can only remember my friends and key moments. But other than that I don't remember anything. 13 was a blurry haze, 2020 was nothing. Quarantine was nothing. It all just blurred by. I can't even remember what me and my friend talked about when we first met online in 2020. Im 14 now, and I'm scared to lose my memory, because I know it runs in our bloodline as do many other diseases. I don't know who I'm writing this to since no one sees my comments anyway. I don't know. Edit. I've reached stage 4. I got absolutely scared out of my mind. I purposefully made the place im in more dark to 'immerse' myself, but now the darkness is just... scary. With the creepy music and absolute darkness... I can't imagine this ever being from Minecraft... but it's vaguely familiar all the same... is this the nether theme? I honestly can't remember. It's been ages since I lasted played it. What a weird feeling. Edit. I've reached Stage 5. I was able to remember the tunes in stage 4, now that they're being played more often, but this... so far... it's just a jumbled mess. How many effects upon effects were put on my childhood's musics to produce something so... ajar? It's a jumbled mess. Its not really even Minecraft anymore, but it is. Wait, I just recognized a tune there. The music's actually still being played? Its crazy. The tune is so vague it almost slips between my fingers. This is the shit you'd hear in the Nether if it were a creepypasta. It's all so unsettling. The tunes started playing again. They were clear for a brief moment. Now it's all gone again. Wow. This, this video. An auditory masterpiece. I think after this I'm going to give my grandma a long hug. 59:16. It's back. I wish I knew the goddamn names of these songs. The last few minutes of Stage 5 really make it feel like it's all about to come to an end. This is a climax. Everything will go downhill from here. The constant repetition of those two notes is... unsettling. Fireworks are popping still. Edit. Reached Stage 6. Nothing is happening now. It's just a consistent nothing. But I'm reaching the end. It's all near. It really puts into perspective how I've been lying on my bed in the dark for an hour, willingly letting myself be unsettled. Haha... Edit. I'm never hearing Sweden the same way again. I fucking sobbed and my grandma came in to check up on me because of how loud I was crying. It really feels like the end, doesn't it? All those adventures, your Minecraft dogs, cats, parrots... they're waiting for you, but you're never coming back. Your first world left to waste, to be untouched, lost to time. But, we don't have to worry. Science says energy can't be destroyed or created. So somewhere in the world, your world is still out there. And even if the sun dies out and everything destroyed, your world will still be out there. It's Everywhere at the End of Time after all. Haha. Cheesy.

The first video and I consider best education I got on Dementia/Alzheimer’s-related diseases specifically brought up both that A) these disorders can happen at any age (the film featured two toddlers and their friend who all had a related disorder that ended up killing the first sibling by basically causing the same plaque in Alzheimer’s at only 1-2 years old) and B) scientists already have a general idea how to fix the issue at least with Alzheimer’s (remove the plaque) but no method so far has been successful at removing plaque without damaging tissue at the same time, and you cannot just dig into someone’s head surgically to remove it because it will just come back even if you do it successfully; at worse, you can cause brain damage yourself because the plaque forms anywhere there’s surface area in the brain, so you’d have to make a bunch of really invasive maneuvers to get it all. Currently as far as I’ve heard they are trying to make and test reactive agents related to the protein they think may be failing in Alzheimer’s patients to regulate plaque and fat buildup (since plaque and fat is actually normal, it’s just usually scrubbed off by your own system) to try and reverse the effects of the protein failure, but progress probably slowed down due to most of the global budget for research going to COVID this last year. He shows a glowing thing from his pocket. A rectangle. You can barely see the things on it. “It’s Minecraft! Dad told me all about how you used to play it a lot. Why don’t you show me your worlds?” Worlds? Dad? You have a husband? What is a husband-? You stare blankly at him. He looks hurt when you remain silent. “Do you not remember Dad?” You want to comfort him. You have the strange urge to hold him. Like a baby. But you’re not sure why he’s hurt. Did you say something? What did you say? Nothing? And what did he just call it? You think harder. A little flash of a quiet place comes. Eagerly, you grab at the memory, but it’s gone. What was it? There were mountains. Trees. People? Good friends. Lots of laughing. Everything was in blocks. Or pixels. Music? You can’t quite recall. A man named- “Steve?” You blurt out, but it sounds different. Slurred. The man perks up, recognizing the name. The man is excited. “Yes! That’s the name of the main character! Do you remember anything else?” You can’t remember the name. The name is about to come out of your mouth- *Minecr-* But you can’t say it. Why can’t you remember? Who is this man, again? The man sighs. He is tired, maybe. Maybe he has worked too much. “I’ll leave you alone.” He presses the rectangle-what was it called?-and it becomes dark. He starts to get up from his seat. You struggle to form the right words. To get the nice man to stay. He looks like you. Strange. But then again, you do not remember how you look now. You speak, but the words- They’re not there anymore. The man stays still for a moment, as if disappointed. Is he mad? You are sad. Or are you? You can’t remember what sadness is… Everything is in tatters and pieces. You cannot piece together who this nice man is, and why he is crying. Where are you? You do not recognize the man standing in front of you.
