Potion racks and/map boxes. Map boxes seam more practical from a dev perspective. Think the chiseled book shelf with 9 slots that that hold rolled up maps.
Yes please. A lot of items were in the same situation: a long time ago planks, then doors, trapdoors, signs etc, so I think it's pretty likely that we'll get it eventually
I think this is opening the door to all sorts of book update ideas: - letting books have more than 50 pages - removing character limits of titles and author areas - possibly having different colored books, like dyes to change the covers - different fonts and colors for words, quality of life edits - cover art, like similar to banners on shields maybe - copy / paste compatibility
If you work it out by pixels, each of those books is 25cm thick and around 35-38cm high, a book in Minecraft has a maximum of 50 pages, that means each page is around 4.8mm thick (allowing for the cover). It takes three pieces of paper to make a book, so each piece of paper is around 16 pages, which is 4x4, so the initial sheets of paper must be around 1.5m tall by 1m wide and somewhere between 4-5mm thick. That's some big paper.
This will be useful for raid farms. You can filter out the books. The stackable items can be filtered easily enough. You just need to use an allay to grab the totems.
idea: Mojang should replace something like 20% of bookshelves in strongholds with chiseled bookshelfs. Maybe instead of the chests. Or keep the chests.
My Wishlist for chiseled bookshelf related things: -Texture of book in the slot corresponds to the appearance of the book(I imagine that it will work in a similar way as text appearing on a sign) -COLORED BOOKS(add a dye in the crafting recipe and you get a colored book. It would also appear different on bookshelves as the thing I mentioned above) -Double Sided Chiseled Bookshelf (it has space for books on 2 opposite ides) -More space for books on the chiseled bookshelves -Different bookshelf for different wood types -Chiseled Bookshelf works with enchanting table(if the individual books cant be added atleast have it to work with a full bookshelf)
Wattles, i love your videos and sense of humor , i only learned about your channel a week ago yet i smash that like button before i watch your vid and by the end my like still stands strong
The sound when you walk on them reminds me of a shipwreck feel for some reason. I could imagine this block being used to some kind of ship just for that sound
I'm pretty happy with the redstone functionality now that you can freely pick the slot you interact with, but i think it'd be more useful and intuitive if the comparator only showed how full it is, like it does with other containers. The bookshelf itself could instead give off a pulse on each interaction, like the lectern does when you turn a page. That pulse would still have the corresponding signal strength, like a target block's pulse does when you hit it with a projectile, where the strength depends on how close to the bullseye you hit.
The fact, that the signal strength is connected to the placement of the chiseled bookshelf allows for...PASSWORDS!!! Not just "that one book", but you can create a code with it. Damn sure I will build this!!!
The chiseled bookshelf is so cool. The only improvement I’d suggest, is a way to know what the books on the shelf are. Because now, you need to either… 1. Label the shelves 2. Try to remember where the book you want is 3. Go through the books, one by one, until you find the one you’re looking for.
Now that I'm playing the game some more after the update, I'm glad we have these, as someone else said tho, having a 1 sided version would be nice, I also just wish that the book colors were randomized, so that it's not just a repeating texture every time, that's literally all I can really complain about for these, other than that these are amazing
I would have liked to see them 2 sided, storage front and back 12 total, for library rows. I was also hoping you’d cover if they were functional as enchanting table augmentation in place of regular bookshelves, either full or empty.
WATTLES.....what u could do is export the everything world, or make a copy, then update ur game with the experimental features and then place the older world in it. That might work, it might not, but u could also, since I think the experimental features are data packs, just find the data packs somewhere and put them in the world and then do /reload and bam. I hope it works. Great job
@@johnmillerpere_grin6371 Holy-moly! Not only are passwords possible, but sort of "safety-key" can be implemented aswell? That ust screams "creating a secret batcave"!! Oh gosh, thanks for that, I really can't wait to build it :D
That's why when I heard about the chiseled bookshelf, I already had a section of my base dedicated to it. Of course it won't have any redstone component to it, just pure bookshelf.
Comparators should be able to pick up a a signal as long as the shelf is on the opposite side of the block the comparator is reading (works with other containers at least)
The fact that the piston can't interact with a chiselled bookshelf at least means we can use it as an immovable block when using slime and honey systems, however it might be moveable in Bedrock if not java since that's true of some containers.
no interaction with pistons actually seems really good. Having another block besides obsidian and glazed terracotta seems great for sticky piston/slime contraptions
To turn on experimental after making a world you have to go in to the settings of that world from the home screen and turn it on, it will then make a copy of the world with experiments turned on
Interesting stuff. It's a great decorative block. The red stone door application is awesome but I'm not sure if it will do anything substantially more or significant for red stone builds. 8 out of 10 until I see what the big brain redstoners will do with it.
I really think they've missed a trick with the bookshelf. If it was only 4 slots, each slot could output 1, 2, 4 and 8 power, then you could tell exactly what slots have books in based on the signal strength.
I feel like there should be a way to tell which book is which before you pull it out. maybe the book title pops up when you look on it in the shelf or something. Like this, it is a kind of a worse way of organizing your books IMO (I love the estetic though)
7:04 For some reason If you remove a book with a hopper minecart comparator doesn't turn of and It's really anoying, cause I'm doing a Grumbot 3.0 that can learn new words, say answers to It, say questions and etc. I want to detect then book was removed and then send a minecart which drive's along (like a thinking process) and then gives person an answer based on what he said... I'm doing It full vanilla and without commands
Anyone notice that the shelf of infinite books in 20wainfinite snapshot (released as an April fool's prank during 1.16) looks very similar to the chiseled book shelf probably a coincidence but still interested (wattles shows it in infinite survival episode full netherite beacon)
Wattles to enable datapacks in a premade world it /datapack enable update_1_20 and to disable is /datapack disable update_1_20 to see the datapacks is /datapack list
The idea is also to set a system to spit the book back at you so you don't need them on hand and you don't need to take the books out by hand and that would cause a mess in the signals anyway. I do have issues with falling edge and am not sure how to deal with it on this system or any for that matter
