Some of that isn't my fault (PC has been dead for weeks, full story on Discord/Patreon) but to be honest, I got a bit in over my head with this, and recording/editing ended up taking 2-3x as long as usual. It's done now though, and there's a ton of great content on the way! Stay tuned :)
@@vegcharli I made sure to keep that clear in the video! Buff makes their money from ads they show to you in their app (never outside of it), as well as from developers paying them to promote games to Buff's users. AKA profiting off your ad views and you playing partnered games.
It was very underwhelming to me. Best part of it in my opinion was the real life and social aspects. When it came out me and my younger brother went running about in a dry river bed cause the GPS data for our town was bad and it placed chests in the middle of the jungle. It definitely has fun memories attached to it in my mind, but they aren’t really about the gameplay. Social games can be like that.
Sucked power like nothing else! I still loved playing it in the beginning phase, because there weren't as many annoying pay to win things, and even though my phone was hot like an oven and out of battery after just an hour of playing
Even if the Covid didn't happen I think the main reason that didn't allow for it to succeed was the hardware problem. The amount of people with actually good phones capable of smoothly running the AR was very scarce.
@@The_mrbob I also had used an Iphone 7 that was leftover from my family and even if it could render the baseplates smoothly the battery would drain at the speed of sound.
@@OfficialHield That’s more of an issue with all older Apple products. I’m not sure if it’s bad engineering or on purpose, but apple batteries aren’t built to last.
@@The_mrbob then the higher price comes back to mind again. The % of world that had AR ready phones especially the ones capable to run MCE for a good while back when it was out was still very small
I think earth would work Very good if 1: Infinite items like creative mod 2: Make people able to build their own stuff But only people they have in friends can see. Them
What would be cool if you could just build something, and then others could see it. Of course there is basically no way to make that work, but I still think about it
Most of what you described as "VR" is actually AR; "Augmented Reality". AR is the "augmentation" of reality by overlaying something onto the real world, like how the hololens places Minecraft worlds over our real world. VR is a "virtual reality" that is its own entire experience, disconnected from the world outside the game or headset
I remember trying this game out for the first time. It actually got me leaving the house and exercising for that mine at the end of my street. 😅 I was so depressed when I heard they were closing it down.
little psa to anyone wondering that "sunset" screen that said that the servers would be down june 21 2021 disappeared after about a year and is now just a white screen after the mojang logo (i still have the app on my phone and am very reluctant to upgrade my 6 year old iphone because of it xD) i loved this game so much i hope it returns in some form in the future
Apparently some people actually still have the sunset screen while others only have the white background - I'm not sure if it's maybe a difference between iOS and Android? Or maybe those who still have the screen just have it stored locally?
@@mcbyt hmm, it could be from updating OS versions. I have all my apps local is why i say that. or hey maybe it IS a difference between ios and android who knows.
I do hope all the exclusive mobs and items eventually end up in Minecraft so they don’t go to waste. We already got one of them (glow squid). And we had the opportunity with the moobloom. I think the bone wolf, skeleton spider, furnace golem, and melon golem would be perfect.
The best way to probably revive it is to make it a seperate game from MC entirely so Mojang can't do anything about it nor care. Minetest would be a good base for it because it's really well optimized
I was waiting to get Minecraft Earth back then, and after they stopped slowly giving access to other countries, they cancelled it, and my excitement dropped. :[ But, it was long back, and to this day, I’d play it almost everyday, like Minecraft.
5:30 this is incorrect. These were presets to build off of, not "to build". You're basically buying "plots" with blocks you can collect there and make whatever on it. You're not restricted in building on minecraft earth except for the blocks you collect and buying plots only allows you to have more places to build things on. Nothing's stopping you from buying the desert preset, mining it out and building a nether fortress inspired house also you couldn't see other people's builds as you walk around. I've no idea where you got those ideas from lol
1. Yes, you could on paper build anything you wanted, but in practice, not really from what I can tell. Collecting blocks was excruciating, and many of those buildplates didn't come with many of them, so you were effectively limited to either the default build or some rearrangement of its materials. I combed through hours and hours and hours of Minecraft Earth content - probably about 90% of what's on RU-vid, as I literally scrolled through 4-5 pages for every single search I did - and never once saw anyone building something fully custom. 2. Are you sure you couldn't see other people's builds? I mean, I can't confirm since the game's since been taken down obviously, but every news article or video tutorial I've seen regarding buildplates says they can be dropped into the world for others to see. At the very least, I know they were shareable through a link.
@@mcbyt 1: Nope! Getting blocks was really easy! It was hard to get some blocks, like diamond boocks, but wood, cobblestone, iron, clay, dirt etc. were nearly infinite! And things like stone biricks, glass etc. took quarter of a day of farming for a house or smth. It was all paced really well imo. The reason why you probably didn't see anything original is because most of yt content is in the perpetual cycle of "Make content upload content" as fast as possible. Sure your lil house will take a day or two but that was kind of the point of the game. I haven't spent a cent and have gotten to build a lot of cool stuff. 2: Nope. You can't place buildplates around the world. You can only share via link. I think there was a public list of builds but it was moderated. I don't remember much about that and i might be getting it confused but as far as I played with me and my friends, i first needed to know the person to see their builds (either via a friend request or link) Imo, as a former player, the reason why the game failed is: It needed the highest end technology. Not much else. I was only able to play the game once i had a good phone which had an amazing camera, gyroscope, screen size and processor to support the game, which was year after the release. Otherwise the game is practically unplayable. The possible playerbase for the game was super scarce but I'd imagine the game (or a similar experience) will come back when this technology will become the "old gen"
@@BirbIrl Ah, I see where the confusion probably is - that public list of builds was moderated, which must've been what all the old players were referring to when they said you couldn't just build anything you wanted. So privately you had freedom, you just couldn't share anything inappropriate (or potentially anything too challenging similar to how Geometry Dash levels work - not entirely sure how the moderation was handled). I appreciate the info, I've got a much better understanding of how the buildplate system worked now. That just goes to show though, how little is known even about a pretty popular game! The wiki is half-empty and full of dead links, tutorial videos are from launch or even pre-launch with any new features not covered, and normal gameplay videos were few and far between with lots of gaps in knowledge. Kind of wild, when you think about it
I played Minecraft earth before and I enjoyed it until it closed. This is the problems I think for Minecraft earth For me, I believe u gotta be too active while being outside and it gets boring quickly. Minecraft earth requires you to totally focus to be able to do stuff. I believe it isn’t too complicated but it’s just not that suitable for playing outside. Like Pokémon go u can just look at the streets while spam tapping if u are fighting a gym or something And if a Pokémon appears your phone can vibrates so u can know. So yeah that’s what I believe to be the main problem.
I actually played its beta on Google Play back then, it was honestly fun just collecting stuff and building stuff, until it just suddenly died. It was fun while it lasted, though.
Wait no i remember seeing this game being revealed like 5 years ago and thinking "huh, ill give that a try when it comes out". Now all of a sudden THIS is how I learn said game has already shut down before I ever actually tried it. Time is moving too fast for me now 👴🏻
I stopped playing Minecraft earth since 2020 or during 2019, but didn’t know it went completely dead during these following years. I still have the game, but never even used it.
I thought that this was gonna go insanely popular and people would sell land in game. I was planning on grabbing as much land in Manhattan as I could since I live close 😂
I actually remembered what led to the game being shutdown, the game was experiencing significant drops in profits due to COVID, which limited the amount of people able to go outside. To fix this, they tried to implement a system which allowed you to do adventures at home, the issue was that you had to loot natural structures to get access to the system... I think you see the issue. The game eventually shut down, but the discord for it is still accessible via an invite link. Edit: If anyone has any questions regarding the game's development & end, ask in the replies to this comment
I still have Minecraft earth on my phone. Yes, you can’t play it. But I load it up sometimes to remember the fun I had playing it. I was entirely free to play, and good at it too. Rip Minecraft earth.
Watching this, I realized I never actually knew what Minecraft Earth was. I thought it was an educational game learning about different animals around the world through Minecraft.
I remember getting the early version of it in 2019 and being so happy about it. I was really upset when it got discontinued. RIP Minecraft Earth, that shit was fun as hell
I remember being a victim of This game I once tried to install but when I went to play it kept crashing at 1 point so I waited for a fix they did I played and there was a part that wouldn't even let me progress 💀 This game was made to fail
"no selling your data or anything" (sponsor). ah yes. just remember, if a service is free nowadays, you are the product. your data is. this is definately about data
Minecraft Earth was buggy, ate resources and battery life making the device hot, plus it came out just before a lockdown...,the community was great though, showing builds and little hacks to get a bit more ground real estate by 2 blocks from the original build plan.
I remember when Minecraft Earth was announced and I was extremely excited (I was like 12), and when it came out I played it for 5 minutes and deleted it
tbh I really liked mc earth, sure It had some problems but I think that outro is a bit harsh, all the memory's I have with this game are really good ones, and even though it was not the best game out there, and certainly not better than normal mc, I think they shouldn't have gotten rid of it.
This buff thing sounds like mobile games having a feature to make you do task outside their game to get a certain amount of currency which is a huge scam
I can’t believe it’s been two years since i played this, I loved it so much and still miss it to this day. I’d rather have this then legends tbh, feel free to hate me for it.
I'm glad I got to play this game throughout its lifetime, and it was a blast building castles, towers, and other things on my work desk and then placing them life-sized in my backyard when I finished my masterpieces, and I still have the game on my phone long after the game's servers were shut down. I also have all of its exclusive cosmetics in Minecraft Bedrock from completing all challenges on every single season in Minecraft Earth (The MCE astronaut set is my favorite).
I remember Minecraft Earth, it was fun. Minecraft Earth seemed a lot like Pokémon GO, had a weird GUI, and had a lot of bugs in it, but honestly the concept was really cool and it was a pretty good game for new game standards at that time. In fact, I still have the Minecraft Earth app on my phone! When I open it there is a message saying that Minecraft Earth has been shut down.
i played it a long time ago and it was good, just good, i didnt see any problems with it, if you just played for 2 weeks 30 mins a day and went out every day you would have everything and you could have built everything just like in normal minecraft
Why is this back? I did a post on reddit with my plans for making a replica of Minecraft earth but I got a lot of rude comments and I abandoned it and deleted the post yesterday and today I see this video.. 😅 amazing video though..
I think it would’ve been great if you could build things around your town/street and everyone who passes by can see the building, in other words “AR minecraft street art” and we could like or dislike it…, and like we could have a world server where everyone can build things around the world and everyone can see it and when you pass someone you can fight them (so a motivation on why you should upgrade your gear) and get there loot. And we could have like a sky statue of someone who is currently top 1 in the city.
It was nothing more than a glorified virtual lego set, but you had to find all the pieces around town. If they allowed the creativity they made it seem like we would have, I feel like they could have pivoted. Like go for an animal crossing like approach, where you can build your plot of land however you wanted.
this game was amazing. everytime i went on vacation and was bored in the car inbetween stops i would start collecting stuff with my sister. i was so upset when it closed… i REALLY hope they do something like it again when phones can handle the vision / there isn’t a pandemic screwing up their release plan
am i the only one that notices that antarctica is on the top face of the earth on the thumbnail even though it shouldn't be visible and instead should be on the bottom
I played minecraft earth when it released, broke my phone and couldnt play on the new phone cuz it was too bad, then the game got deleted before I could play again.
very informative, thanks! excellent pacing/flow, editing, and aesthetics! shame it was filled with microtransactions, though dont feel bad about missing the band-wagon now 😅
Minecraft Earth is dead, millionaire tycoon world is broken, pokemon go is pay to play, and I'm still looking for a good free to play location based game.
To be fair, Pokemon Go has for the most part gotten a lot better than it used to be. If you want to play remotely, they just cranked up Remote Raid Pass prices which everyone hates, but it feels like spawn rates have gone up a lot, everyone gets free incenses, there's free daily gifts, etc. I've played completely money-free except for one purchase for a pack of incubators and some other items, and I haven't even used them yet - they're for "just in case" I get a bunch of the high-level eggs and want to hatch them quickly.
