Sodium is definitely better, I get around 100FPS on Optifine with my preferred shader, and around 140+ on Sodium with tons of mods and 20 render distance.
I’ve found in 1.17 that sodium and optifine are about equal In 1.18 I’ve found sodium to be slightly worse than optifine, some random rendering issues with blocks sticking around after breaking/ not rendering when placed This is of course probably due to sodium being in alpha for 1.18, but my testing for 1.17 showed that for my old MacBook Air- optifine might be preferable due to the extra features it has that alternatives have not quite provided adequately yet
The problem I find is with sodium I can’t change my resolution like optifine I have a 2k monitor and wanna run 1080 I have to change my display stettings to get 1080 on sodium
@@aqua1063 I'm pretty sure Sodium Extra (by FlashyReese) adds that. I'm not sure though, but I use Fabulously Optimized (1.17.1) modpack from Curseforge and it adds the feature, so it's gonna be one of the mods from there.
IrisShaders and/or sodium might be causing the shader performance to not be as great as expected because they are still in development for 1.18 further updates to the code might help.
Hey! :) yes with the new version of Iris shaders Seus HRR 2.1 works great for me! I even tested with some resource packs and runs really well, they really improved it now. It may not work with some AMD cards I think. What graphics card are you using?
I use shaders with a 32 render distance and all other settings cranked all the way up, and get 60. and terrain loads nearly as quick as bedrock. This is with Sodium and Iris
dude tysm. only thing is that i wish you put like some commentary in there that says like "if you dont care about configuration, then you can check out the description below for the performance".
Hey :) thats a good question! yes Iris comes with sodium if you get the installer from their main website. It comes with iris, sodium and fabric all in one. If you get from CurseForge then it only comes on its own so you can just get sodium from the curseforge website too.
@@gamerpotion I have been trying to install iris and sodium for the past few days, Thank you bro ❤️, By the way does the iris mod you mentioned earlier (from the website) work alongside optifine or should I install it as completely different mod pack ?
Hey :) ahh no Iris and optifine are not compatible as they are both doing the similar type of thing in the game ;) you have to choose between the two ;)
Optifine is still best for low end pcs because, we reduce render quality and shadows which can give a massive amount of fps but there is none in iris or sodium. This is only applicable when we run shaders.
Is there a way for optifine texture packs to work with iris? I use (stay true) which has connected textures and trees etc so they no longer work. Same with Fresh Animations. :C It sucks a LOT
My results were pretty much the same, so I decided to change to sodium for now. I can finally play with BSL shaders smoothly at 100+fps With optifine I get almost half of that, around 60fps, which I thought was quite a surprising amount of difference
60fps still sounds perfectly playable You’re lucky, I get max 50 on either sodium or optifine, and I’m tempted to switch back to optifine due to some issues with sodium involving block rendering and lag spikes, as well as the “alternatives” for optifine features simply not working (continuity, I’m looking at you)
From the tests that I've done so far, Sodium does offer better performance than Optifine, but has just one down side when it comes to shaders. Iris with Sodium does Not let you to tweak the shader options and does not support Specular, Bump and Parallax mappings. So if you're concerned about how the game looks, I would recommend Optifine over Iris Sodium. Although, there is this ongoing development for something called Starline Fork for Iris which is an optimised version of Iris that offers the ability to tweak the shader options but doesn't support specular and parallax maps yet and also has a significant drop in performance compared to Optifine along with a few glitches in the alpha version. So maybe if Starline has a release build out, it might be at a competitive scale in comparison to Optifine while using moderately or very heavy shaders like SEUS PTGI...
Hey :) in my Starline video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F1jNx5I_xhA.html - the creator of Iris commented and said they are working closely with the starline creator. I have also learnt that the next version of Iris will have the config options ;) so very soon it will come
Should i cap my fps? Because i saw on a forum that you should cap it as your computer refresh rate because it could hurt your pc in the long run. I have 60Hz monitor
Hey :) yeah thats correct. If you leave on higher FPS - your graphics card will do more work and fail quicker than it would do. If playing regularly then set to vsync on so its smoother
@@normalerror7611 You can't have both. However, modern GPUs are robust enough that it should not be an issue. People leave uncap frame-rate for first-person-shooter games all the time.
@@gamerpotion hi, iris dev here. We won’t be releasing for any versions older than 1.16 due to the code being majorly different (we depend on vanilla 1.15+ changes a lot for mod compatibility) as well as there not being a Sodium port. (We know of the many unofficial Sodium ports for forge, however all of them have some major issues as well as them not being official, as well as many Forge mods depending on Optifine code.)
@@ims2123 Hey! :) thanks for the update on this! very much appreciated. Ah yeah that makes sense :) Im sure others will agree that we cant wait for the future releases of iris looking forward!
Im having some problems to run my old maps with shaders on my rtx2060, u have a 2070. As more as I play in a map, as more contructions it have, lower the gpu usage is, do you know why this happens?? In a new map, I put the Seus HRR 2.1 and the gpu work fully at 100% and the game reaches 100fps But in my 500/1000 days map, if I am rendering, or im close to my houses and construction, the GPU doest even reach 50% of usage, and my fps stuck at 40/50, its so frustrating, that my gpu can easly handle 80 to 100 but it just doest want to.. I Dont know what to do to solve this. I want to know if this happen to you too or not, and what you find to solve it or something.
Hi Gamerpotion good video today. so i was just looking at mods for 1.18 so when i got done looking at 1.18 mods i open minecraft launcher and open minecraft minecraft just crashed i don't know why maybe because forge is like forcing me to go 1.18 or something like that but here the error code i got java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError: null Exit Code: -1
I have an HP Victus Laptop 3050ti and I barely hit 200 FPS, (Connected to electricity ), on vanilla. I configured the Nvidia panel to max performance, but that is the farest it got. Any suggestions???
New subscriber here I got to say the winner for me is sodium and iris because I can run high quality shaders like seus and textures packs like patrix on 128x and sometimes 256x res with decent fps but with optifine I have to use msi afterburner to get more fps lol
I tested out too on my system but suprysingli igot lower fps on avarage with sodium and bsl8.1 shaders i dont know why😢😢 I have a gtx 1050ti and a ryzen 5 5500 cpu and 16 gigs of ram Please help
hello i have a little problem... When I play without shaders i dont get input lag, but when i do play with shaders, i get a little input lag. I have vsync turned off. Does someone know how to solve this problem?
I have one problem, My mouse has really high input delay, even tho its wired and i have a beast pc, shaders run with 200ish fps, but my mouse is slow af.
How can your fraps show more then 60FPS if you not recording? i assume you not record this with fraps since i see OBS is also opened on the desktop and fraps if you record the FPS number become red instead of yellow. but how can your fraps showing more than 60 if you not record?
@@gamerpotion thanks but that wasnt my question at all, my question is when i open fraps in MC to check my FPS like you did mine capping (limit) at 60 how were you able to show 600 , 800 or even more with fraps, thats my question
you have to to disable vsync and then set the max framerate slider to the maximum, then it will show the max fps your system is capable of doing. if its only showing 60 constantly it means its capped at your monitor's refresh rate of 60(vsync)
hi, sorry you cant use iris with optifine, you can use optifine on its own which also has performance boost or use iris+sodium, they are not compatible with each other
I dont get why I get only around 120-150 FPS with optifine. I have a 3060ti, 16GB 3200Mhz RAM and a R5 5600X. U even had about 600 without everything, what can I do?
Ayo wassup. I found a big brain thing when l play on a server with paper mc with sodium gives me 200 fps and in single player its 60fps so l transfered my world to a personal server and it worked lol
Yeah on a server most of the calculations for the game are done serverside, whereas on signleplayer the game runs a pseudo server on your machine. The less load from a proper server and PaperMC's optimisations like Starlight gives a great boost to client side fps
for some reason, lunar client(optifine) runs better than iris, sodium, lithium and starlight combined. does anyone have an explanation? my pc specs are: gtx 1080 ti ryzen 5 5600x 16gb ram
Ok, I use optifine for normal minecraft gameplay without shaders, but I switch to iris/sodium when i use shaders because it runs wayyy better with shaders than optifine
At least for me, shaders appear visually worse on iris, and the performance gains are not enough to get me to justify dropping graphic quality for that. I can run SEUS shaders on my RTX 3070 1440p in the 70/120FPS range.
@@MetallicMagenta Gladly. the textures are disoriented. The lighting bugs out. The quality of the shader looks like it's corrupted. There are so many filters and occlusion triggers that it looks like a pocket edition shader made for a low end mobile device. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's that bad.
@@vibes8930 with seus shaders on optifine the water becomes invisible unless I go in it the ground the ground below the water becomes visible and I can see all fish’s swimming with no water lol
@@gamerpotion Not really. UI wise it's very pleasing. But also, Windows 10 will be on life-support from now on considering Microsoft is moving on with Win11 but they don't seem satisified with it either quite yet. Likely they're trying to make a proper OS (Win12?) since 11 is just Windows 10 with looks overhaul (even with overhauls, there are still A LOT of Windows 10 UI in certain places. Truly unprofessional.) There's a project called "Rectify11" which basically overhauls the entire Windows 11 with *consistent* UI looks meaning it actually is improved in all the aspects which microsoft... Forgot? There's also Revi OS (Revision) which has slightly nicer elements as well, removed spyware and the new task manager etc. But yeah. Windows 8.1 is better than most think although support/compatibility on certain software is lacking. How pathetic is that? Why isn't Microsoft supporting EVERY Windows version? There are STILL millions of computers with Windows 7. But cutting off updates? EHHH?! IT DOESNT EVEN COST MUCH TO UPDATE THE SECURITY LIKE WTF MICROCOXK. Instead MS connecting all their versions making it compatibke with all the versions, no, they have to cut off and kill their windows version. Truly pathetic of a multi billion dollar company *spit*.
Hey people. Just letting you know if you have bad fps with a good pc and you are in windows 11 I recommend you to downgrade back to windows 10. It worked alot for me😀
Bad thing of sodium u can scale the resolution of shaders soo if u have a low end laptop or pc for shaders is better use optifine for shaders but not for pvp for pvp optifine sucks end sodium is much better in 1.18 but for 1.8 there's only optifine
@@gamerpotion r7 3700x, rtx 2070super, 16 gbs ram, installed on ssd. I played around with overclocking my gpu and the base fps went up to like 400-500 fps with optifine base settings. I'm no really interested in running such a high fps, but when I see these videos I wonde if maybe theres something wrong with my config.
Hey :) your setup is better than mine, so i dont know what is causing the lower fps. I know its not low in terms of what you are getting but you should be getting more! is there any background apps that could be conflicting with it maybe? what is your CPU temps when you are in game?
@@gamerpotion I know mate, that is exactly why I'm asking, ot's really weird. My temps are usually at 50 to 60 I think. Anyways I will keep digging. I am comfortable playing at 100 avg with shaders, but when I see other people's videos in youtube and their pc runs much better and sometimes even looks better it makes me think there might be an issue with my configuration. Anyways, after overclocking I am getting easy 500-600 with iris and no shaders. Anyways, if I manage to solve this I'll comment back.
@@gamerpotion So I have been playing around and was able to find out a few things. I deleted MC, all folders, optifine, lunar and iris with all of its folders too and started from scratch. Base MC - OC card and activated AMD Game boost in the Bios I was getting 500 - 600 FPS while standing still. I guess that's pretty much it. I also think there were other configuration options in the Nvidia Control Panel that were limiting MC, or conflicting with MC original config. Maybe that is why initially I would not get more than 50-65 fps base MC with no config changes. I think it might have been antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. Not sure. I have disabled game boost and the oc in my gpu and still get now 300 - 400- So might be something in the Nvidia Control Panel that was affecting fps. I am comfortable now, knowing that there is nothing wrong with my pc. I left game boost disabled, but will leave my gpu overclocked. I do not see the harm in it. Anyways, thanks for reaching out. I'm glad I played around with the configs.
Optifine is the solution for fixing my freezing issues on single player imo, I ever use sodium, it like change nothing, plus don't like fabric bc it make my skin disappear because I'm using TLauncher.
