Naeus at the time would have lost had him and Ceris fought right away. Also, for those wondering why Vordus and other endermen did not teleport away from the fireballs. Not all enderman are the same age. Vordus is ancient and there are likely to be many others who are incredibly old as well. They cannot react to those attacks quickly enough or are too worn out to do so.
