Still trying to figure out how to get that stupid bone. Haven't seen a single mob of any kind spawn yet,and I've been playing for a few days.

Mobs dont spawn passively, expect bats. You need a mob generator, have blood under the block and rightclick it with bonemeal to spawn a skeleton. Hope that helps :)
