Yes, this will be because you need an update. It's free and can be found here: www.minelab.com/manticore-software-upgrade It will give you the Stabiliser and lots of other cool features.
Can you lose good targets with stabiliser function? I’ve never used it yet as I’ve heard others comment that they have lost a good target, small Roman, when turning on. Must admit I’m a little conflicted whether to try it or not.
In theory. yes. But only if you were using the stabiliser really, really high and it was a really tough target. The Stabiliser is there to make the detecting experience more enjoyable and to save you time, so personally, if you need it, we'd say use it. PERFORMANCE over DEPTH every time!
So running the Manticore on the beach, particularly in the wash/surf drop-off zone, it is difficult to run it at a 23 sensitivity... I find less than 23 sen I start to miss small gold. So why no stabilizer for the surf mode? Using the enhanced audio mode is a cheat I've started to use but it's not the best as you really have to listen for the small/weak targets. I know lowering the sensitivity seems to always be the common answer, but then you sacrifice smaller gold??? If I want to sacrifice small gold and have a quiet detector I could just breakout the Excalibur... So why no stabilizer for surf mode??? 🏖️🧲(((📿💍🪙⛏️⛏️⛏️🌊
Paul opted for this technique on this day and he knows this beach very well (he picked the location on this day). I will check with him as to why he preferred this method and get back to you!
Hello, I chatted with Paul, and he noted that there is particularly high iron (WWII finds and scrap) in this area. He was detecting on the wet sand, not the surf which is quite different. Paul used All Terrain General with the stabiliser to combat this. But, he also noted that sometimes he feels the stabiliser makes the machine more stable in these conditions and then you can squeeze slightly more from the sensitivity. We don't know of any plans for Minelab to add stabiliser to the beach mode.
