Drove this trail coming down from Engineer pass at around 10 PM thinking it would lead me to Silverton. I drove it in a completely stock 96 4runner. Gotta be the most terrifying experience I’ve had considering it was my first time in Colorado and on this trail. Definitely looks more beautiful during day time !

I live in Colorado. I traveled this road the beginning of September 2021. My 4x4 book rates this trail as difficult, I should have paid attention. Please heed the ratings. The video doesn't show the worst of it. I started at Engineer Pass Alpine Loop, taking this road from east to west. I consider the beginning of the trail moderate but the closer you get to the Poughkeepsie Gulch cutoff it gets real rough. I was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and it does pretty good on moderate roads, but I don't do rock crawling. At one point I ended up sliding about 10 feet off the road. It all turned out well, I was rescued, the worse damage was body, and I made it home. This road is not good for the intermediate driver, but the scenery can't be beat. I love the San Juan range, will be going back, but not for this road. Thank you for the video, I recognized several sites.

Wow! Some daring couple brought something besides a Jeep! LOL... Love the scenery. I remember when California had running water and green trees.

Is the snow crushing the buildings or is the wood just rotting out? Very sad..

I think it's a combination of both. I was here at the mill in 2010 and the structure has crumbled a lot since then.
