Mineral Creek 4x4 Road to San Juan Chief Mill Colorado 4x4 Trails 2016. Uncompahgre National Forest. Jeeps and a FJ Cruiser. Part one of Day one on the trails.
Drove this trail coming down from Engineer pass at around 10 PM thinking it would lead me to Silverton. I drove it in a completely stock 96 4runner. Gotta be the most terrifying experience I’ve had considering it was my first time in Colorado and on this trail. Definitely looks more beautiful during day time !
I live in Colorado. I traveled this road the beginning of September 2021. My 4x4 book rates this trail as difficult, I should have paid attention. Please heed the ratings. The video doesn't show the worst of it. I started at Engineer Pass Alpine Loop, taking this road from east to west. I consider the beginning of the trail moderate but the closer you get to the Poughkeepsie Gulch cutoff it gets real rough. I was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and it does pretty good on moderate roads, but I don't do rock crawling. At one point I ended up sliding about 10 feet off the road. It all turned out well, I was rescued, the worse damage was body, and I made it home. This road is not good for the intermediate driver, but the scenery can't be beat. I love the San Juan range, will be going back, but not for this road. Thank you for the video, I recognized several sites.
BEAUTIFUL! !!! How I adore those mountains, and I love seeing you guys enjoying the loveliness of it all. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Bless you all! :) :) :) ♡
Looking good Charlie! I've been on that road many times. I totally forgot your were coming a few weeks ago - arrrrghhh. I had to work anyway, but could have surely could have made some sort of arrangement to meet you in person. Maybe next time! Blessings!
