Hey Rob I'll take 4 fillets when you harvest. Lol just pop em in the mail! I like to see people actually eating the fish they produce. You're the man, man!
Very nice update my friend. Wanted to touch on something you said about adding more greens to your diet. I think it would be good for you to look into sprouting as a means to get a lot more nutrients, especially from Broccoli. I started sprouting when I got my cancer diagnosis a little over a year ago. There are tons of videos out there to discuss the value and process of sprouting so I wont go into that. The part I did was designing a wall hanging unit for the jars so they take up almost no space. If you look into the sprouting method and are interested in starting it I can tell you more about the 3D Printed mount. If you dont have access to a 3D Printer there is a good friend of mine in Australia named Mike Laws, who has a 3D Printing channel called Teaching Tech and I am sure we can get him to print you a few out for your own use. He has a LOT of machines.
Hi Matthew. We have thought about getting back into sprouting, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I was also looking at broccoli after listening to a podcast with Dr Rhonda Patrick a while back. Do you have a link to the printed mount? Sorry it took a while to get to your post.
Loving the pest screening. The buggers are even getting into my plants and I have no idea how. (Ants probably for the aphids…. Dunno about the 🐛) The lettuce are looking healthy as! Catch up soon!
Is it those cluster caterpillars Hoocho? They've been getting under the netting of mums veggie pods & smashing everything in them. B wants to catch up with you folks before she needs to go back to the treadmill at Splurk. Cheers mate & hope you folks are feeling better.
Thanks Morn. I think my Sister has enough spare netting for me to do the other bed so I might as well do that one as well. Hope all's well with you mate.👍

@Victor's Farming Adventures Just found the video. That enterprise folded a while back & was also in the USA. I have seen videos on it but none that go deep enough for me to do a video on it. Just to let you know, I do these videos for free & can't be expected to answer emails as they arrive. I have other work I need to do to earn a living so I can do these videos. The easiest way to get my attention to questions or comments is to become a supporter of the channel as I always get back to patrons asap. YT comments & emails have to wait until I'm caught up on other work Cheers.
Hi Rob!! Can I ask a question?? Can you tell me how much is the best EC for DWC system for growing lettuce?? As far as I know for the hydroponics system, around 1.4 is good EC for lettuce. But I have no idea in aquaponics dwc system...😂
The nutrients in aquaponics aren't all in salts so it's hard to nail down a correct level for aquaponics. I know some folks will give numbers but they don't account for the elements that are available in forms other than salts as I understand it. A good rule of thumb is 30-50g of 36% protein feed per 1m² of DWV lettuce/greens if that helps any.
I've seen folks use the mesh I I'm using that is galvanised as well as the straight concrete sheets. Cattle panels here are more like mobile stockyard fencing & are a bit expensive. Are the panels you're talking about a mesh style?
Hi bob I am from Mauritius and have been watching your videos. They are very informative and impressive. I am willing to give aquaponic a go on a commercial basis. Do you think this aquaponic can be profitable as a business?
I think it can Mohammad as long as you research the market to see what seels well in your area before you pick up a pen to sketch out your system. You'll also need to work out if the fish will be raised for profit or as just nutrient suppliers for the veg side. I would imagine fish would be fairly cheap there so you might want to also see if hydroponics may fit your business model better.
Hey thanks for the informative video as usual. How often do you empty the solids from the filter into the mineralisation tank? I’ve seen people say to leave it for at least 30 days but I empty my filter in the mineralisation tank on a weekly basis, is that ok? When I first set it up I left it for a month and since then it’s been weekly additions.
Hey Kegan. I've been adding the RFS solids in there weekly or as the settler needs cleaning. Ideally the solids should "brew" for 30+ days but this system also works for those of us that don't have the room for larger tanks. The solids in the mineraliser aren't removed so will end up being in there for months in reality. I'm yet to send some water off for testing but should get to that soon. Will post a video on it when I get the results back. 👍 Cheers mate.
@@RobsAquaponics thanks for the reply, that’s kinda what I was thinking. I have tested it for the basic stuff like nitrates and it’s obviously quite high in those. Would love to know more about things I have to add like iron! Keep up your good work!
Most of the fish would be harvested but would keep a few to pop in a new system at the new house. Transport is fairly easy as long as you have the tank/drum they're in is well aerated.
@@RobsAquaponics Bizarrely I wasn't even thinking of the livestock, I was thinking of the weight and volume of the medium and containers. I'd barely fit two of the smaller ones in the vans I usually rent to move house, wondered if you'd pack it up into bags, or sell it off and make anew or if it's easier to move them than I realise.
@@Asdayasman I have spare tanks I can put in our trailer that I can shovel the medium into. It would be a few trips but MUCH cheaper than buying new medium now the AU$ is falling & transport from overseas is so expensive. Cheers mate.
We do but only bits here & there. I did go through a period of harvesting a fair amount of purslane for them but stopped as the supply died off in summer. Cheers Anna.
@@RobsAquaponics Não, eu sou mestico negro e índigena... aqui no brasil essa questão é bem ruim... A rapadura é um doce muito popular aqui na região mas, em outras partes ela nem ao menos é conhecida.
