I've been to a couple of those mines and also heard about the tale of the hidden treasure the Indians hid. Not in the Spanish mine behind the spring bottling company. But close. Pretty sure it's up there somewhere and I'm formulating a plan to figure out where it is. Will be back soon with plan B because that mountains not that big. Great video. Keep up the good work

Absolutely wonderful. I know for a fact that there are many caves and hidden treasures in the Gunks. Lived on the ridge for a decade in an off-grid cabin way off the beaten tracks. You're mispronouncing "Esopus." Emphasis is on the middle syllable which is pronounced like the word, "so." Thanks for this video.

I love your videos. I’ve found unknown ancient mines in WV. Had some metal tested and it was mostly silver but also had other metals contained in samples. Called PGM-6, had assayed and told me rare metal conglomerate also contained iridium.

Did you know the the American Museum of Natural History in NYC has incredible mineral specimens from Ellenville that contain Pyrite and Quartz crystals. I have explored one of the Lead mines east of Wurtsboro. It was said to have had one of the largest crystals of Galena ever found at the time in the USA. It was a dangerous mine shaft to explore because of the steep pitch entered from the top using ropes. I used to dig out museum quality individual quartz specimens from a open pit mine inside the village of Ellenville it also contained abundant pyrite crystals mixed with quartz matrix. Thanks for such a great detailed report on all the mines of that area.

Thank you for the video I live on the shawangunk ridge in the town of mamakating and had not heard a few of these legends. That said your pronunciation of local names is terrible lol Mamakating is ma'am-a-kate-ing, and Esopas is is eh-soap-us. Recognize most of the places in the video and appreciate you not using random "mountain" stock footage

Since you seem to love colonial mines and tunnels a bit more than caves I have another one for you! I'm sure your familiar with the City of Schenectady's deep past? 1690 burning of the city to the ground and then the war years. Well one of the only structures in the area not to be burned was the Glen house in Scotia. Todays Glen Sanders (currently closed). Anywway, Glen, wass friendly to the French so they spared him and his family. Later someone dug a tunnel from the basement of the home across Mohawk ave. to another home today the Scotia library. The tunnel has never been open to the public and I heard has started to collapse during flooding. I saw the entrance area and was told the story many times. It may be right up your alley? The City contains lots of underground history. There are water tunnels miles under the city large enough to kayak in, they did it a few years ago.

Mamakating Mine is closed by the State.

I found a mine shaft on a farm most likely from the 1700s are you interested in taking a look at it and doing some research on this location it's a pretty big

Shawangunk is pronounced Shongum. It's one of my research areas. I live in the Shawangunks. The correct pronunciation of DePuy is " de Pew" most of the stories are for the same mine. Mamakating Valley was until 1798 all of what became Sullivan County. Pahaquarry. Esopus "e-so-pus" Olde Mine Road is Minisink Trail. It Approximates US209 & splits at the TriState. Hundreds of mines in Shawangunk/Kittatinnies same mountain ridge. Contact me, please
