My 6 months old aussie shep is such a good girl and so smart. I do not regret for a second getting her. Just the sweetest. I really want to get a second one so that she has a buddy to play with.
They are the best dogs! Panda was wild in the beginning but he’s so mellow and sweet now. I would love a second one if I knew he wouldn’t be sad. Is yours anxious at all?
@@kaylajfsmith she used to be anxious when we first got her, but she became more used to us (which only took a day) and everyday she became more affectionate towards us. She used to be anxious when we would leave her alone and now she doesn’t whine at the door and just kind of hangs out and naps. She gets very excited to see us return everytime of course!
Yay, thank you for the update. He is so big now. We just got our Dalmatian puppy and he is growing sooo fast too. Ive been thinking about Aussies as well and I definitely want one in the future as a pal for Maui
Hi! I just find out your channel and I've been watching all your videos about Panda and I wanted to make you some question since I'm thinking to buy a mini Aussie and I live in an apartment as well, so I wanted to know if you think that would be a problem and would you from you experience will not recommend me to have one in an apartment or it will be ok if I trained and give the walks and exercise they need? Also, I would like to ask you if you had any inconvenience with panda destroying the furniture or something in the house. I really like your videos since you are one of the few person who have one of this puppies in an apartment and you seemed to doing really good!! ❤ Well, thank you and lot of love to Panda!
We have a baby mini aussie girl. She’s 15 weeks old, so we’ve only had her for 5 weeks. She’s beautiful but so tiny at 6 lbs we’re always afraid of breaking her. She’s so fast that we walk barefoot around he so we can feel her if she gets under our feet. We’ve only been using the potty pads in the house because she’s overwhelmed when we take her outside to pee or poop. She picks up ants or anything in the grass. If she hears a car she panics and runs to the door. I know we have to potty train her but it seems like she’s too tiny in the grass. She learned Sit, Stay, shake, lay, up and walk in no time at all. She’s super smart. How did you potty train?
Awww so tiny! Panda was 5 lbs when we got him so I understand! I remember when his belly was touching the grass so I couldn’t tell if he actually went to the bathroom haha. For us, we never used potty training pads because we didn’t want him to think it was ever okay to go inside. (Everyone is different and this is what we chose to do!) We took him out every 2 hours in the beginning and crate trained him if we needed longer amounts of time because they won’t go where they sleep typically. He never went longer than four hours without going out. Every week he could wait longer and longer because he didn’t go every time we took him out. Now, he goes once in the morning, once in the afternoon and right before bed.
Hi! I have a toy/mini aussie too! Basically all the things you said apply to my aussie too. She's 12 weeks old and we've had her for around 3 weeks now. Any tips for the future? Also, right now she doesn't shed, but I know she will shed more as she grows. How bad is the shedding? How much did Panda weigh at 8 or 12 weeks (just a reference for how big our pup will be)?
How are you working on his anxiety when you leave him alone? I’ve had my toy Aussie for 2 weeks and I know it will take some for him to get used to it but just want some tips!
Thank you for being patient with me! For his anxiety, we have a small WiFi camera near his crate that we can talk to him through. We try to comfort him from our phone and he’s usually fine in about 10-15 minutes.
I am interested in getting a mini and also live in a apartment, but with a 750 sq. ft. backyard. How often do you walk him? What do you do with him when you do go to the office?
They are the best dogs! That’s so lucky that you have a backyard. I’m pretty sure your yard is bigger than my whole apartment haha. When he was a baby, we tried to take him out every four hours. My husband works from home so we were lucky but we have been leaving him for longer amounts of time. Now, he goes out once in the morning, maybe once in the afternoon and right before bed. He is crate trained so that’s where he goes when I go to my office.
Also what method did you use potty training him? I'm considering a mini Aussie, and I'm interested haha. - what did you do when he peed inside? How did you tell him off so he would know not to do it again.
We didn't use potty pads at all because we didn't want him to be accustomed to peeing inside. We took him out consistently and if there was ever an accident, we tell him no firmly and then take him right out. Now he usually tells us when he needs to go out and is better about not peeing inside. We haven't had an accident in two months!
@@kaylajfsmith that's great!! You answered all my worries, I wouldn't want to use them to. But I've seen other people recommend them from a transition to inside to outside or something. But yeah, I would want to do it your way too.
Angie C They do shed a lot, but on the plus side I have heard most of them don't have that doggy oder like most golden retrievers or poodles have. So yes, if you want one I would buy a vacuum. If you want a dog that will shed less I would recommend a poodle or a shitzu.
That sneaky little boy 😂 He peed on the card so you wouldn't take it away. He used his pee as a sign to say "look mom, this card is mine now, you can't touch it. Ha!" Lol They get smarter as they get older. Watch out for the food. If you have dinner on the counter and have to go get the doorbell or something they may stay there while you go into another room and eat your food while you are busy. It's not something that will happen, but it could. They take a lot of work that is for sure.
@@kaylajfsmith okay that's great! I needed to know that, because I would much rather socialize a puppy in other places. And hopefully puppy classes are not necessary.
We got Molly at Pet Kingdom. The breeder was a small farm with only a few dogs. We got her papers with generations of mini aussies and we’re really happy with her and her breeder. She’s beautiful!
Kayla Smith They had two boys and a girl, we went in during a rain strom in south florida. They had just got there when we got Molly and they were all sold the next day, so I’m glad we went when we did or she would have been gone. They get few of them and everyone wants them so you have to almost be waiting for them and grab them quick if you want one, lol.
Be quick to discipline and use the same word for each. I’ve learned with Panda that I need a deeper more stern tone. I do that every single time he nips or jumps and he learns to be better.
I say NO and pull her back the first couple times, but now just NO works although she’s pretty much stopped doing that with me. I’m trying to get my wife to get it right also, she still bites her socks :-(
I really need to do an update 😅 He fluctuates between 28-30 pounds depending on how much fluff he has. He has only chewed through one light cord and nothing else. We are very lucky! The key to Aussies is keeping them busy with dog friendly toys/enrichment and they won’t hurt your things. He’s lived in an apartment his entire life and we haven’t had an issue at all.
Ur not in the right place for having an aussie. They need a job and socialization every day. You cant be a responsible aussie owner somewhere the dog needs to have a leash. Thats coming from an owner of two aussies and a mini pup
