My Mani is two years old. I’ve had 4 dogs in my life. Love them all but my mini Aussie holds a special place in my heart over the rest (gotta be truthful). Lots of energy, very loyal, affectionate and super clingy lol. All the things I love in a dog. He’s my first male dog and boy can I see the differences. Some good, some bad but all tolerable. Shedding is an issue but worth it imo.
We just adopted our mini red Merle Aussie last week ❤ she's 4 months & has one blue eye one green eye 😊 she's gonna fit right in with our 2 huskies which also happened to be red (chocolate) coats lol 🤎
my mutt is my mothers service dog and when she went through radiation (breast cancer) the mutt and mini schnauzer were her energy to get out of bed and keep going. i was just the driver..lol we now have a blue merle mini aussie 12 weeks old (the mini schnauzer passed at 16 yrs old 1 year ago)
My girl is 16 going on 20, I hope. She’s from working lines. What most of these Aussie videos fail to mention is that they pick “their person” to bond with and that is not negotiable. Usually it’s the one who does the hands-on care, feeding, walking, training, lots of eye contact, etc. They will play with and accept pets from anyone in the family, but when everyone is settling down for the night, they settle in at their person’s feet or lap and that’s where they take the evening snooze. This video talked about they’re good with young children, but they tend to nip arms and legs unless persuaded otherwise. Training has to start the day you bring them home, three 10-minute sessions spread out through the day. Many “experts” are vocal about kenneling but if you want a pup to bond with you, letting them howl their little heart out in a lonely room far from your bedroom won’t do. They’re used to sleeping in a warm puppy pile of brothers, sisters, and mom so isolating them is cruel. Put the pup on the bed and when you feel them stir, out you both go for the potty break. Take them where you want them to relieve themselves, then straight back to bed, no playing. As they grow their heavy coat, they’ll jump off the bed when they get too warm but you’ll usually find them by your side in the morning. Treated right, corrected gently, the Aussie pup grows into your “best dog ever.”
No. Should be 16 years if well cared for. a Portuguese farm dog lived to be 30 years on human food. His 10 -12 years is probably based on dogs eating Purina or science diet.
We just rescued a double Merle puppy who was born deaf and blind in one eye. BAD breeding. Do not breed Merles with Merles please! This is the result frequently. But he is a very good and SMART dog and we quickly fell in love with him. He's been great with our old deaf Border Collie.
We just visited our mini for the first time today! 24 days old. We went to pick one out of a litter of 8 pups. As soon as we picked her up, she nuzzled my beard and licked mine and my wife's noses. We knew immediately that we were going to share our lives with this baby! Can't wait to bring her home.
@@arizonalifestyle79 She's doing really well, thanks! She is very lovable, but also very independent. So high energy, but knows when to be calm most of the time. Right now she chews on everything so it's a struggle to find toys she can't destroy. Loves to chase Frisbees and balls in the yard. It's been a hot summer so we haven't been able to go on many hikes, but have several planned for this fall. And she gets spayed in mid September so I'm taking that whole week off work to be with her. She grew up so quickly and is already her full height in just 7 months. We just adore her!
I've just adopted a mini aussie (american) shepherd. She is 4 years old, intact, and had to be rehomed as her family is divorcing. She's been bred. It's been 24 hours and she's still super skittish looking for her 'other' mom. Wish me luck!!
Your video is doing a great service for not just for the potential Aussie families but the dogs themselves. It is commendable how you emphasize the energetic nature of Aussies and their needs. It makes me sad thinking of Aussies that are trapped all day indoors or have little activity, barely walked except once maybe twice a day- that’s almost medieval cruelty.
Hi new here been an older couple can not care for their mini American shepherd 😢 and because I have a dog that looks like there's a corgi border collie mix he also has one blue eye and one brown so he thinks they are the same breed and wants to give me the dog so I am looking into the breed
I have a 2 year old male and he is the biggest lover he always lays on my lap and cuddles on the couch. I walk him a lot and he gets exercise but time at home he is the biggest baby
Um, the affection level is totally different - theyre actually called "Velcro dogs" and our two are annoyingly affectionate with everyone and especially our family.
@@SunnyFlowerPaws thank you. She is fourteen months old and she had been on the chain from the time she was three months old until January 23rd on the day I picked her up. She is absolutely love and being a house dog and having a big fenced-in yard and no chains!
@Megaman8880 I have a Miniature Australian Shepherd, and it has a tail that wags and lets me know how he's feeling. Maybe 20% are born without tails, but I bet many get docked due to some hoity toity standard.
@@johningramdude I've got a mini and a regular aussie, neither have tails. We don't and never would dock them. My family breeds them, and in our experience almost none of them ever are born with tails.
@@skubii1703 I was asking this because the mini Aussie a family relative of mine has sticky up ears which at times makes her look more like a wolf than a dog. There was a short period of time where her ears were half down.
@@reflex9238 some of them do and some don’t, it’s the same on a lot of herding dogs. My last border collie had ears that stuck straight up and she looked like a little black fox, her sister from the same litter had floppy ears that never stuck up
@@josie5670 Ah alright, since anytime I've searched her bred on google I can never find any mini Aussie that look like her in terms of the ears as all of the photos mini Aussies have floppy ears.
The mini Australian shepherd is recognized as the mini American shepherd. "Mini Aussie" is a backyard breeder term used by uneducated and careless breeders.
