Just bought a r53 cheap just gone over 100k and this has gave me all the info I need. Top guy. If anyone knows any decent mini mechanics around Kent let me know ✌
If you got that perfect year (from 2004 July till 2006 end of r53 production), then you are probably golden. Saw recently piece that had 360xxx km while looking pretty much like only slightly used.
@@Murmur2k Nope not at all. Glad I made the change. We just had this on the dyno yesterday after some serious mods and are getting 200HP at the wheels in the R53
Hey But love your videos I'm thinking of getting a 2006 cooper s G53 but looking at your videos and other videos it seems they are full of problems should I even bother??
aha nochmal ein exzellentes vlog mein freund. ich freue mich schon sehr auf viele weitere auf den unvergessenen kleinen bmw-frontantrieb mit ladung. viel laut lachen. Mach weiter so, mein Freund!!!
joker mate lol thanks for the German lesson yes mate so am I I need to get these videos done and dusted so I can move on to the next BIG thing for this channel that's why im starting them now and hoping to finish this car asap but grow aswell
@@BMWDoctor yes mate looking forward to that also. But the mini. Especially the supercharged is not very well covered on youtube. At least not by somebody who knows what they are talking about for sure👍🤙
Andy Caldwell well I’m the only one from Uk doing this at least the same as BMW’s but I don’t mind I’m modifying this car to fuck man I can’t wait to see power difference on this thing Nathan said to me upgrade the supercharger pulley so I thought forget it I will do 19% instead of the 15% most people run as there trying to be cheap to avoid a new intercooler no being cheap with me
@@BMWDoctor well go for it. As we both know the intercooler is a must do upgrade on any fi especially a petrol. Iv always been put off buying selling minis because of the early gearbox problems. I dont even know the cause. Just heard the horrors. Iv driven a standard supercharged mini and the torque is like an e46 330d. With a 19 percent increase its gonna be a killer bro. Do they have an lsd or is it controlled by dsc set up?
Andy Caldwell no these have LSD mate no DSC on these mate and no mate there isn’t no gearbox issues on these providing there not red lines all the time that’s why they suffer problems 2002 models had a problem with the ecu and the supercharger not spoiling and feeling like the car wasn’t moving a update rectified that this car shifts already mate for all I know the pulley may well be already done mate who knows until I take it off also yes mate I’m going extreme most people even selling these only do 15% that’s because they don’t want to do the intercooler as it’s like £349 for the airtec one that I’m getting but I’m not cheap man and want the best for this car it’s got the exhaust so let’s just finish it and do it all I got a lot of performance parts for this
After looking for a fun cheap commuter car. I picked up a 2006 cooper s .I understand the body code is R53. Did that car only come with one engine size? The other engine codes you referred to were Different years ?
yea the R53 Mini Cooper S is supercharged, the non S has the same engine if im not mistaken but is not supercharged. the convertible goes by a different code.
OH man over engineering but that's life to day.. X5 all green on modules did another re adapt. Cleaned cabin compartment filter need another filter an a couple of bits. Is the mini a auto or a manual ??
Farm trucks 🤣🤣🤣 manual is annoying here but then I miss it sometimes but then that’s the joy of having a bmw and a mini both auto and manual sometimes I want to be in full control sometimes not
@@BMWDoctor cool thinking of getting a r56 for my daughter but since I'm not gonna be the primary driver and they only tell something wrong when it's broken thankfully the one I'm looking at has had the 100.000 mile service done even the supercharger oil and hp fuel pump done
Andrew Carter mate r56 doesn’t use supercharger that’s bmw valveteonic system with turbo stay away from that one mate that’s very very problematic and EXPENSIVE to maintain consider this r53 as cheap to run as a m54 bmw e46 very very cheap and parts are widely available
Andrew Carter haha you did mate r56 uses turbo charger which is more unreliable that’s why I never went r56 I want something with power constant not on certain rpm and ain’t serviceable
Why did the BMW doctor give up on his R53? Seems like a much more manageable car to maintain than a proper BMW and these little things can be turned into weapons after swapping the pulley and slapping a miltek exhaust on them.
At a minimum: water pump for sure. pulley reduction (might as well), new boots if needed, magnetic drain plug to supercharger, step colder plugs (might as well do wires and coil pack too), crank position sensor (since itll be easier to reach and is a cheap part). Maintenance to handle the new found power: serpentine belt (upgrade to ati super damper), belt tensioner and poly tensioner bushing. replace/upgrade coolant hoses with mishimoto silicone, thermostat, bleeder valve, drain and fill coolant, upgrade to aluminum coolant reservoir (plastic one is known point of failure). Clean the intercooler if you want.
A 15% pulley. You need a remap with the 17% to avoid running lean and melting pistons. Also you need a serpentine belt of the correct length for any pulley change. The water pump will also run faster and cavitation is likely at high rpm. Never buy a car that has a 17% pulley. It is likely ruined.
Me I’m expensive maybe £500 I’m different I’m not your average garage this I don’t just do the parts you have whatever else I find gets replaced and it will all be shown on videos so nothing goes unbidden or you won’t be lied to about what needs doing the recordings will be recorded from strip down to the repairs Also I’m a youtuber so therefore I can charge more as I’m more special then any garage and people know that already
Yep and once that’s done it’s done only people who either don’t work on them thereself or try to run bmw & Mini when they don’t have money in the bank complain because many many people drive these and NEVER ever look at the expense
@@BMWDoctor I've owned BMW's for years. It wasn't until the new generations past the E30, the E34's, etc that BMW went to plastic everything. They used to be amazing cars with uber reliability until they went cheap with plastic everything. They can still be good cars, but if you don't keep up with the required maintenance, they will bite you in the ass in a heartbeat.
Bryan Dover well I always do I’m not one of these guys who just buys it and drives it mate and secondly no mate not here they are not full of plastic if you read reviews on the e60 people say the interior is one of the best designs and super strong if you knew BMW’s you would know the E53 e39 were plagued in issues my friend Door handles breaking air suspension failure electronic failure constantly More then I have ever done on any other bmw that’s why I don’t and won’t touch older BMW’s not worth my time but there worth the scrap yards time
