Mini Crotch Rocket Build Part 6

Next build project is a mini crotch rocket. I had picked up a Hyosung GV250r from the local junk yard and you know I had to use it in a build. So this is going to be a mini crotch rocket powered by the Hyosung GV250r engine v twin engine. It's just kind of a fun, different project I've been wanting to do for years. Even though its a mini bike I wanted to use a more serious engine and get it to perform like a sport bike, which is where it got its mini crotch rocket name. At 28hp and micro bike size it should rip pretty good!
Do you guys think this thing will be pretty fast, Let me hear some guesses on speed?

Hyosung bikes were meant to to have the feel and look of much bigger bikes yet sit in smaller displacement classes for licensing. Most other countries use tiered motorbike licensing.

A lot of times, if you can get it started, as long as its not truly rusted or corroded, those things will clear up, compression willl come back, and valves will reseal. But that said, a tear down is never wasted, if you care about the project, becuase you'll know the exact shape of the engine.
@jeeper426

a trick i've used in the past for automotive engines i've stored, put a light coat of atf in the cylinders and soak the engine completely with WD40 and wrap with pallet cling wrap, the WD40 will protect against moisture, and the cling wrap will keep dirt/debris out/off of the engine as well as adding an extra layer of protection against moisture ingress, you can substitue the atf in the cylinder bore with some deep creep from seafoam, or you can also spray WD40 right into the cylinders as well, just anything to displace any moisture that might get into the cylinders, great build man, she should be a real ripper once the engine woes are sorted and the grimlins are evicted from the premises
@FarmerFpv
@FarmerFpv 2 года назад
Or you can use seafoam for winterizing boat engines. Super simple to use. Just spray it in the carb at idle until the engine dies and it's all done and protected.

Yeah, you're correct he should. I never understood why all these RU-vidrs use the same front and rear diameter tires. The bikes handle like crap. Long contact patches in the front have more sidewall bite and wide contact patches in the rear have more center bite. The only way to get a longer contact patch is with a taller and narrower tire in the front. It's not just for looks.

The engine is big and heavy because not only is it air cooled, but it's also a 2 cylinder 250cc instead of just one cylinder. The 650cc engine is bigger but not buy a massive amount because it's probably also a 2 cylinder engine. Its like having two 125cc motors strapped together instead of just a bigger piston.

When you're riding "aggressively" you should have the balls of your foot up on the pegs anyway, so you really should have plenty of clearance for your feet when leaning. We do that even on full sized bikes, and it's even more necessary with those tiny wheels you have.

I always check valves by pouring a lil fuel down from top of head like where the valve springs are and check bottom side of head to see if fuel is leaking around valve. Got that from a Suzuki service manual it sure beats hoping the valves are sealing and wasting time and possibly gaskets

On my 70's style enduro build that I used that same engine on, I was able to get it up to around 80mph, but that was only because I didn't quite get around to fine tuning the carbs, and it starts running a little rich after about 3/4 throttle. I would sure like to know what that second song is called I really like that earily sound. I was close I guessed twenty five pounds on the frame weight. the engine is over four times as heavy as the frame. on aluminum that white corosion is called sulfating. it's quite common on aluminum that has been sitting around for a while. if there is any amount of pitting and or corosion on the valve seats or the faces of the valves you will have a problem. a sure fire way to tell if you have an issue with the rings is to use a compression guadge. and add a small amount of oil to the combustion chambers. if the compression rises significantly you have an issue with the rings, if not it's the valves. but sometimes the rings will get stuck in the the ring lands of the pistons if the engine has been sitting for quite a while. and will free up once the engine is running. I suggest using a compression guadge in the future.
