Congrats to Baci for being such an amazing mom! I love burgundy collar’s curls! How can you tell which alleles were passed down to each puppy?

You can either test or just do it visually. For curly puppies we know that they got a curl allele from each parent, for smooth puppies they have the non curly from each parent and for wavy they have one curly and one no curl. In this litter, because Copper only has the curl allele we know all the puppies who are not curly have one of his curly alleles and one of Baci's no curl alleles. I hope that makes sense!

Thank you Claire, for this lovely and educational video; I truly appreciate it. You are so knowledgeable Hopefully, my Labradoodle is pregnant! The reproductive specialist vet here in Australia, along with stud dog owner, both 99% said that she would be pregnant, but also said that the babies can be reabsorbed during the first 3 weeks. This is Marigold's first litter. She is very withdrawn, depressed and has become an extra fussy with her pure dried meat snacks/treats, but still enjoys her raw food diet with a semi-raw egg and a very small amount of veggies. Is her behaviour normal, since she is only day 5 of her pregnancy? Also do you know what the size of the puppies would be classified as? Marigold is a large 26kg cream girl with a pink nose, pink eye rims and green to pale hazel eyes. Her and her mat was only a 29cm tall Toy poodle. He is an apricot, double furnished boy, and has such a lovely temperament. Would you be able let me know the approximate size of the puppies? I was also wondering if you might know if the puppies Sorry in advance for taking up so much of your time, but really truly appreciate it Claire.

As long as you used progeterone testing to breed your girl then I agree that it is 99.9% sure your girl is pregnant. Puppies can be resorbed, not reabsorbed, at any point in a pregnancy but it is most common in the first 2 trimesters. If that happens, it is usually only 1 or 2, not an entire litter. As for the size of the puppies, personally I do not breed 2 very different sizes of dogs together. You can end up with puppies who have an enormous head and small body and vice versa. I stay within a 10% size differential at the maximum when choosing my breeding pairings. Also, the pedigree has an enormous influence on what size the puppies will be. The grandparents and great grandparents have every bit as much influence as the 2 dogs themselves. I like to review pedigrees and ensure that the grandparents as well as the parents are within that 10% size range of one another in order to be able to provide consistency in terms of structure and to let my families know with some degree of certainty what size the puppies will mature to.

This litter has been fully rserved for many months now. Once a litter is fully reserved, it is removed from the website soon after. Our puppies are generally reserved 6 to 18 months ahead of time. It's only when we have an unexpectedly large litter that we have availability after the litter is born.
