Honestly Paul I am shocked by seeing a TCL tv beating a Samsung tv. Yes the Samsung sounded a little better but when it comes to PQ? The TCL was the better of the two. And not by a small margin but to my eyes alot! The blooming on the Samsung was horrid while it was more controlled on the TCL. Great comparison video Paul.
Ask more questions, why did it look so much better compared to the normally better Samsung? Settings! They were probably both in Standard Mode OOTB. On Samsung Standard Mode uses Contrast Enhancer.....this ruins the picture lifting everything (making it much brighter) making highlights look less tightly controlled causing blooming. Much better to use Filmmaker for any comparisons on a Samsung and Movie Mode on the TCL. Truly a terrible comparison! He didn't even know that the QN95D has around the same amount of dimming zones. We need another video Paul with more comparable settings! I think most don't realise how important they are for HDR comparisons shown in SDR. This video is totally and utterly misleading like most comparison videos on youtube..... Also Max Chambliss has a video showing how Game Mode on the TCL is terrible.
Agreed. Very annoying when “reviewers” give final judgement based on out of the box settings. For God’s sake, put some effort into it and learn how to get the best performance out of it.
@@umunnacharles5372My C1 has burn in after 3 years. It's been an amazing TV. It's the main TV and it gets a lot of screen time due to my kids. I would like piece of mind next time.
The C1 was amazing, but I got burn in after 3 years. I also like the C9 I had before. The TV is used a lot and I would like to try mini-LED in person to compare the quality. The reviews suggest the good mini-LEDs are VERY close to OLED in quality. Plus getting an 85 inch QM8 is much more appealing than 65 inch C4. Trust me, size matters (and quality is very close).
Do that music test again, but with the TCL on the bottom and SANSUNG on the top. You will hear a difference because the furniture you have beside the Samsung acts like a horn, boosting the bass.
Thank you for the video. Very detailed and show us clearly on the contrast! I would not plan to pay twice the price for a same level Samsung TV anymore.
@@briankinyanjui7000 I wouldn't just trust someone like that. Did you know Game Mode is really bad on the TCL? And it lifts the picture even when calibrated making it look extra low contrast? Check out the ChooseTV comparison of the C855, B7, U8N and QN92D. That's how it's done! Except they didn't show game mode which normally suffers on an LCD.
Great videos as usual 👌 would be nice to see some low quality Cable,Antenna TV Footage and it's upscaling and Motion in fast Speed Scenes, Or RU-vid movie trailers at say 360p 720p 1080p as it has lots of great Scenes 👍 Thanks 👍
I think the reason for this diference in black levels is the fact that some QN65D (depens on market) are using an IPS panel vs VA panel on the TCL. Local dimming helps but native black level on IPS screens is poor, then if you add mate finish...
The whole purpose behind the S95D is it's anti-glare capabilities....which are tremendous I might add. If I was purchasing a TV for a normal to dark room this would not be my go to TV but it is truly astounding in a very bright room like the one I have mine in, surrounded by windows.
Wow as an owner of a Samsung q90t that was pro calibrated that tcl looks amazing, it has taken samsung 4 years to get the firmware to a point where it's now probably the best it will ever get with local dimming control the last firmware was may this year. But I'm certainly thinking to get the dolby vision at a cheaper price point it's looking like a no brainer to go tcl😊
I hate the blooming on Samsung tvs I sent one back for that very reason. That’s why it’s lg oleds in my house, you can see the massive difference the self lit pixels make in a completely dark room once a black screen is on. The tcl looks good the question is what’s it like in a dark room. Good comparisons though. I wonder if the Samsung is so expensive is just because of the brand name
@@barryjones2366 dont think u realise what almost double the dimming zones does to a top tv and 1k nits more also . but i agree on the Samsung its prob not that bad in reality he even said it to , that its accentuated from the camera its not that bad in reality . But still prettty big diff and that Samsung cost 2x more i mean wtf ?
Hi Paul, hope you are well, I knew TCL were punching above their weight but that is very pleasantly surprising, I'll always tty and go for OLED in my lounge but for other rooms the TCL may be worth a punt, especially at the price point,
If tcl you get a little better software for local dimming control it will be a no brainer for a lot of consumers. It just pushes brightness a little to much and Samsung aren't for me if it ain't qd-oled
All you would have to do is tone down back light or brightness a bit to enhance color and lessen blooming on the Samsung. All these TVs can be manipulated to look good or bad.
Can you tell me the settings you used on both? There is definitely something wrong with the Samsung here. My QN90B with Filmmaker Mode looks much more like the TCL here and the QN95D has much more dimming zones so couldn't possibly be this bad with the right settings. I don't think anyway. Never use Standard/Dynamic Mode on a Samsung comparison they use Contrast Enhancer Low/High even movie mode might use Active Tone Mapping, so use Filmmaker only and it should perform much much much better. 😀 Can you make another video with accurate settings?

You dont mention the settings used. What settings was used for the TCL ?
This is the third comparation on youtube that I know that compares the TCL C855 vs Samsung QN95D. This makes me think that it's a promotional video. It's nothing bag, but the video should be labeled. I don't think it's a concidence that there are at least 3 youtubers that are trying to say what a great value is the TCL compared to the Samsung mini LED flagship. Regarding the review, I understand that TCL has a lot of strainghts, but the thing that rarely is compared, are the viewing angles. Samsung uses a wide view angles filter. For me it's important. TCL does not.
Yeah almost every comparison is pretty bad.....try the ChooseTV one it's actually pretty good. And they clearly say this is the order of picture quality after they calibrated them and used accurate settings with real content like you should, Sony, Samsung, TCL/Hisense.....
This is why I've moved on from Samsung to TCL. All four of the TV's I've bought in the past year have been TCL's. Samsung's LED TV's have been slipping for awhile.
Sorry, but I think you didn't do this comparison correctly, I think you should have shot the Samsung QN95D directly from the front like the TCL C855, not from a top angle! Also, according to other reviewers, the QN95D also has 1344 local dimming zones. How did you know it's only a little under 800? There are no detailed reviews of the QN95D, I would love for you to do one! What setting did you use for local dimming on the QN95D, low, medium or high?
Definitely didn't do his research well enough. I suspect he just turned them on and filmed them.....which means Contrast Enhancer Low on the Samsung lifting everything making it look worse than it is. Whenever you do any comparison on youtube you should use Filmmaker Mode on the Samsung/LG, etc and Movie on the TCL for a better one to one comparison. So Static Tone Mapping is used on the Samsung and CE is Off. Basic errors like this on almost every comparison on youtube makes you realise these are bottom tier type videos. And no real content! Pointless without real content....
Samsung Tizen OS comes NO way close to Android OS based on functionality and availability of apps. I own 2 Android OS 65-inch TVs. The TCL C725 and Toshiba Z770KN. Both TVs are amazing in terms of picture quality and sound as well. But overall, the Android OS just runs so smooth on them. Best part of the Android OS for me is that I can side-load APK files or use the Downloader app to install apps that I might not find on the Google Playstore. No other OS running on current Smart TVs can do that. Will definitely be looking to get the TCL C855 as I have seen a side by side comparison between a QLED and Mini LED TV. TCL FTW.
How can Samsung put something like this to market, they have got really lazy.... This tv should never has been released in this state. 700 dimming zones simply isnt enough....
@@xiaolin6498but the TLC X955 is much stronger so i want to see if theres any differents with the C855. And you have a 85 inch version of the X955
Sure, I wouldn't pay the same or more over an OLED (they usually aren't anyway), but it seems OLEDs don't typically last that long either. Look at all the reports of dead pixels within 1-3 years. There are some really bad examples around the frame. No matter what brand you go for, you might be lucky to have it last 5 years+. It is also impossible to say on these new releases how long they'd last, because they haven't been out long enough, obviously. Why do you consider impossible to repair compared to something else like an OLED? It isn't as though you can repair either panel tech, so you're left with backlights (TCL) and boards. Yes, I'd wager to have move longevity with a more established brand, but I wouldn't count on it for sure.
