THANK YOU, I've been looking for a mini mason jar succulent tutorial but they're all closed systems or not mini. I have empty baby jars i wanna use for plants to give as gifts
yvettrae It’s really contingent on the succulent you’re using.Since the container is smaller and doesn’t have a drainage hole I would recommend either adding just a little water when the top soil is dry. Or try removing the succulent from the container and submerging the roots. These were made specifically for an event so their purpose was primarily for decoration or as gifts. It’s not a long term potting solution for maintaining a healthy succulent plant. I have some that outgrew the pot in a few months and others that have been in there for two years.
Reshma Hollwah I would say it’s contingent on the type of succulent you use and how fast it grows. These were made specifically for an event so their purpose was primarily for decoration or as gifts. It’s not a long term potting solution for maintaining a healthy succulent plant.
This is the primary reason for all the layers. Since the container is smaller and doesn’t have a drainage hole I would recommend either adding just a little water when the top soil is dry. That is so cute! Great gift idea! Why do you take all the soil off the root? If a small amount is left on, wouldn’t that be good for the plant? Keep some of its original elements? I have no idea. I’m just curious. Thanks 😉
I did it more for the roots the spread in their new environment. In other repotting instances I have left the soil on and sometimes I use cuttings with no roots at all.

Fun video and lots of unanswered questions about similar ideas. I'll try to summarize a few answers. The pebbles act like a false bottom so that the water does not contact the soil and keep the soil too wet. The charcoal helps purify the water so you don't get stagnant water smell or other impurities. However, in general, you should not be watering so much that you have a high level of water up to level of the charcoal anyway, sitting in the jar. But because it is an open jar, the water will also evaporate, so don't panic if you do have a little more water than you expected. The moss is optional but it helps retain moisture the in jar. Additionally, the video owner said these were made for an event so having extra layers and colors makes it pretty, too. The soil is that part that you will want to make sure is moist for the plant. Because of no drain holes, this is not like a typical succulent plant container that you might say, water thoroughly when dry and leave it alone for a while. Instead, you may want to water in such a way that you can see the soil is getting wet/moist, and then leave it for a while. Depending on the size of your, your amount of soil, etc it will be hard to give an amount of watering you need to do for your plant and your jar, as well as to say how long in between waterings. Just make observations and keep the plant looking healthy.
@@lovebug9386 Even without the mesh, she still has a false bottom already with the pebbles. just don't water too much so that the water comes up to the level of the soil, and the soil wouldn't be over-saturated leading to too wet conditions.
Where can I get these materials in small amounts? I have a little succulent that I want to move into a tiny jar I have but I don't want to buy a bunch of charcoal or moss only to use a little.

yusuf şamil contingent on the succulent and how much you water. This is not a long term planting solution. It’s primarily for decoration or party favors. The succulent will eventually outgrow the container.
Rosemary Gonzalez Since the container is smaller and doesn’t have a drainage hole I would recommend either adding just a little water when the top soil is dry. Or try removing the succulent from the container and submerging the roots.
matt 4you It varies by succulent. Once I notice it getting a but “leggy” or a stem starts to emerge and the succulent looks like it’s reaching I’d say that is a goo indicator.

Shahnaz Sheriff it is real moss it just a colored variety used primarily for decoration but it still acts like traditional moss. I didn’t go to into depth about maintenance since these are primary for decoration and will grow out of their small containers within a few months. Since there isn’t a hole to drain the water and the containers are small, I would recommend either taking out the succulent and submerging the roots in water and repotting or just adding a little water when the top soil is dry.
Small forest dweller Actually there is a real job the moss is doing. It helps the soil to not mix with the carcoil and most importantly the pea gravel on the bottom. If they mix there is no longer adiquate drainage. There is currently a place for water to eccape the soil completely.. If the soil creaps down between the pea gravel that is no longer the case. Many use mesh non-metal synthetic window screen which do that same job (you will see that a lot) but moss does it as well and it is indeed prettier. I just wamted to advise it actually has a job and is placed where it is for a reason. Water going down will pass through the carcoil and then again on the way back up through evaporation. It is also important to not allow your roots to dig down into either the charcoil or the pea gravel or whatever your drianage is. That is another job it does. Pretty, yes. but has a job and is placed where it is for a reason.
Hi. If I use babies from the nursery, won't they grow and then not fit into the container anymore? How do I ensure I'm choosing a plant that will stay relatively small and not grow to gigantic proportions that will require re-potting?

Jerue You are absolutely right. I simply pursued this as a temporary hobby so I wasn’t too invested. Since this video I got married and moved and am now an expectant mother. I almost forgot about this channel this I noticed an old post. I was blown away by the response over two years later.
@@succilife218 Congrats on those changes in your life. Sounds great. The irony of all the questions is that many seem to be similar ones about how to water, how much to water, doesn't it need drain holes, etc...hehe

Blayer PointduJour it started as just an IG name, there’s a lot of competition in the succulent field let me tell you. Plus I actually liked the double meaning.
