►FOREWORD
People have asked for content to be more frequent. So I'll focus on quantity for the next 2 weeks and see what happens.
►WHAT IS THIS
Using both Faraday's Law of Induction and Lenz's Law, it is possible to make any material levitate. Here is a demo for exactly that which I hootenannied up in my free time!
►TIMESTAMPS
0:00 - Start Over (You know you want to)
►MATERIALS
Solenoid (about 300 turns of 18AWG magnet wire)
Steel Conduit Tubing
Aluminum Ring (cut from a pipe)
►CREDITS
Narrator: Dayton Aardema, EE
Editor: Dayton Aardema
Music: Cody Aardema - Blueprint Theme

As a magnet makes a change, the universe resists it. But in the end, the magnet always wins. There is a life lesson in there somewhere...

In England, we have 240 of Her Majesty's finest volts available from our wall sockets. That would certainly stimulate your ring and make it hit the ceiling of your castle.

Very informative video, Dayton. As usual your nice and light-hearted style makes scientific disclosure very light and usable. Good!

Now that you've got magnetism figured out, how about a few simple timeline travel experiments? Great show, btw!

Um... I does electronics. "Science" isn't even a real field of study. P.S. Thanks for complimenting my wardrobe. I try my best to look "on fleek" (as the kids say)

Are there any equations to find power of an electromagnet?
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 3 года назад
There is, but it's not the easiest thing. You need to find the impedance of the electromagnet and work from there. This link should help you: eepower.com/capacitor-guide/fundamentals/impedance-and-reactance/#

@@Basement-Science Ha! Did you hold them near the power line's transformer?
@Basement-Science
@Basement-Science 5 лет назад
Lol not quite :) I´ve got an air core solenoid that has so many turns that I can hook it up to 230Vac, or even more for a short time. With the right secondary coil you can make it work :) (motor from a microwave fan, with the rotor removed.)

Isn't it Eddy currents
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 5 лет назад
Yep. Eddy currents apply whenever a magnetic field changes near metal (the magnet falling thru the pipe) and this is a more specific case where the current has a closed loop (the ring or the pipe) to traverse. Think of it like a transformer. Overall the current goes around the loop as per Faraday's Law: ∮E*dl = dФ/dt

I've heard the thicker the copper tube the slower the magnet will fall... How thick a copper tube would you need to totally stop the magnet 😂
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 5 лет назад
Impossible. That would imply a system that is 100% efficient.
@Basement-Science
@Basement-Science 5 лет назад
You could do it with a superconductor. That´s the only way.

What would happen if the voltagz was 120v DC??
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 5 лет назад
Click "Read More" to find out.... Ha! Clickbait is awesome! Nothing would happen. Only changing magnetic fields make this trick work. A DC voltage would make an electromagnet.
@luongmaihunggia
@luongmaihunggia 5 лет назад
It won't move, because only a changing magnetic field can induce a current in a conductor that turn the conductor into a magnet. DC through a coil does not make a changing magnetic field only AC does.
