This seems more like an app note (application note) implementation for the chip rather than an actual product ... most ppl are unaware of app notes that vendors/manufacturers put out for using their chips ... final details are up to the end-designer and engineers.

No, I don't think so. I would say it's more the design issue. :)

With better external antenna it could nicely work also on LW and MW bands 😉👍 Built-in whip antenna is not proper for those bands.

I have measured the current drain of this receiver and it was around 120mA. Battery capacity is 1000mAh. The only problem with CW mode I see is the tuning step, which can be set min.to 1kHz which is too much for CW .)

@@OM0ET Yah especially with the contouring of modern transmitters. Only bright side figures to be some modern transceivers aren't true CW but sending sideband tones. Boys and their toys. Although if a big enough propagation opening and I figure the receive side of the little radio isn't very selective I'd guess being right on freq isn't going to be a problem. Thanks for answering.

If they did, it would probably be about as incomprehensible as the one that comes with a Baofeng UV-5R ham transceiver, i.e., no help at all. Fortunately the menu is dummy-friendly, but I still don't know how to adjust the volume...

Sounds like his fault, not being on the proper channel to start with. What if I want to tune in 5 kHz steps? On odd offset starting at say 1123 kHz?

Yes, that's a good point! Other AM radios has preprogrammed 9 or 10kHz frequency spacing, but now I realised that this one doesn't. It's just a regular step choice but doesn't look at the regular AM frequency channels. Thank you ;)

I'm wondering if the off-set is different in Europe or Japan or China, than it is in the U.S. That might be a setting you have to make first before trying to tune the Broadcast band in your area. 🤔🤔

@@SkyWire88 definitely different vs. the US; we use 10kHz stepping here (870, 880, 890, etc.)

Is it possible. I think that the other firmware for this radio solves this glitch somehow ;)

Hi David. I am sorry but I never had an opportunity to use any of them. Maybe somebody else here will answer to your question.

Both are made in the late 1980's. The 430 has a lot more features than the 140. My caution would be in buying a rig that old. Unless it's a steal of a price there are better modern day options that you can get for not much more money. I would never buy one that old unless 1. I had disposable money 2. I could use it first to make sure it all works which would be very doubtful unless it's been restored.

Maybe also an age of used electrolytic capacitors could be a problem due to the drying out of electrolyte inside.

@@OM0ET yeah, I'm going by the components. it's got pretty much every single part of the ATS-25, just all mounted to a smaller board to fit in the case. The only things that are different is the case, the board, the screen, and a built in antenna.

On the CB band it can receive in AM/SSB modes only. FM is missing on the SW.

make an all band transceiver, use sma or 2.4mm cuz most ppl arent gonna transmit shf or ehf

and you could probably just use an old microwave with a magnetron, but you cant really tune dat output and change dat magnetron freq....well what happens if it taek duh magnets off it and replace em with electromagnetic coils???? but nowadays modern microwaves use a high voltage switch mode fly back style inverter wit dat phat IGBT transistor to dump plenty of power into dat tiny transformer, yeah it looks tiny, but u can get 5kvDC at up to an amp, using less power and no big heavy ass giant 30lb hunk of wire wrapped wit copper, wit ballasting and ac line filtering for it... wanna duh perfect general purpose vacuum tube power supply? go tear apart a used Panasonic or inverter-based microwave, now i wonder what would happen if i took dat tiny ass transformer off and put a Cathode ray tube line output transformer on it? 100kv at 2000-5000W would probably be a good way to scare duh shit outta ppl look dat xray tube voltages and power supply!!!!!

Imagine, that we don't need any telecomunication operator, cellphone, internet or satellites to be able to talk with somebody on the other side of the Earth. We need just a homemade antenna and transceiver ;)
