The AKMA has a well-rounded collection of Regionalist Art by Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry and Grant Wood. Regionalism is defined by the midwest principles depicted by the mythical ideal of life on the farms and small towns of the Heartland. It was part of the American rejection of the European-lead interest in abstraction. Regionalism came about in the wake of the Great Depression inspiring nostalgia to go back to a simpler way of life in rural America.
