In this wargaming terrain building tutorial I'll show you how to build some simple pallets and ammo crates made from wooden stirrers and a wet wipe. These turned out pretty good for such simple materials. These can be easily added to or customized, and I'm positive it wouldn't be hard to do a better paint job. These should be perfect for Warhammer, 40k, or most modern or sci-fi tabletop game settings.

I have been wanting to watch this for a while and I have to say it was well worth the wait. You did an excellent job of building the pallets,boxes and tarps. I do think your painting is very good and they look the part. Thanks for sharing this very useful tutorial.

Cheers John. These are great little pieces to place around my other builds, and really quite easy to make a batch if I need more. Thanks.

Why fixate the paper with hot glue before applying PVA? Why not just soak it in PVA before molding it over the crates?
@RFDHobby

Thanks for your comment. I honestly didn't try soaking it in PVA first, so this might work, but when dry the paper would not hold the shape I wanted at all. It was quite difficult to crease it and keep in place. I figured hot glue was a quick solution, but pre soaking the paper might work as well. Worth a try for sure.

@@RFDHobby Yes. Soaking the paper with (mostly) water and have concentrated PVA underneath could help keeping the shape. I suppose it's also a matter of what impression is desired. I'd be looking for the tarp looking casually flung rather than tucked over the crate.

what is the name of the material you used for the boxes?

Hi there, the box shapes for this was mostly foamboard, but any material you can make into the box shapes works fine. I think I actually used some stirrer sticks for one of these as well. The covering material I used was dried out wet wipes, these are just much stronger than using tissue paper. I hope this helps.

Nice, I’ve been looking into making some specters, something like a cheap version of the Nighthaunt from WH Age of Sigmar. This will definitely be a cool way to do this.

Wet wipes - genius! Have been wondering how to put some tarps on some cars for a Gaslands terrain piece I am working on so will give this a go :)

Thanks mate. Great idea using these as tarps for Gaslands vehicles. Good luck with them, happy to help if you run into any issues. I appreciate the comment!

A few of these scattered around really adds to the 'lived in' quality of a tabletop game!

Yes. These seem to fit in with any terrain setup I have. A great extra little detail to through next to just about anything.
