Bonus points for gratuitous use of puppy cuteness in a video. Thank you Ara and congratulations again on 10k viewers. The refrigerator is awesome! And I love the hardware (easy to say since I haven't tried it yet). It really does make this a period looking piece. It is very generous of you to share this with us. I also love the ice cube

I think you did a GREAT job with this. It's so funny that making some vintage appliances is also on my miniatures to do list - and almost like these EXACT styles. I have pinned a bunch for inspiration. Now I wish I had an electronic cutting machine because I like the idea of printing it on the mat board even if you can't cut through it. I don't know how you had the patience to fiddle with those tiny hinges - I make hinges, too, but have a different method. The colors came out almost exactly the same (the fridge just came out the tiniest bit greener than the stove - or that could be the lighting, I dunno). But you gave me an idea for making matching pieces at different times. I think I will start keeping a color recipe book for miniature sets or suites. That way I will know to use 3 drops of this and 2 drops of that to get a matching shade of XYZ color. Congrats on 10K. I'm gonna get there, too!!!

Question about bottoms of pieces: In scale items, do bottoms exact measure to same height? or are bottoms of pieces supposed to be at same height?
@BentleyHouseMinis
@BentleyHouseMinis 5 лет назад
Do you mean the bottom of the stove and the bottom of the fridge? If so... no they are at different heights. If that bothers you, you can always just make double of one of the leg patterns and use the same legs on both pieces and then they would be even ;)

I was going to suggest a Hoosier, too! The one I have is oak but when we bought it, it was coated with a thick layer of horribly stained white paint. My husband stripped it back to its original finish. The only thing he was not able to do was refurbish the tambour door. Our Hoosier has served as a breakfast counter, baking center and later became my husband's home office.

how in the world did you get it to fill an entire 8-1/2 x 11 page? I don't know what happened, but when we (my husband and I) went to download the patterns, they took up about 1/3 of the page and believe me when I say that the pieces are TEEEEEENY. And yet, the 1" square measures 1" squared. Are they supposed to be that small? When you are cutting yours out, the page does not look that small. Any suggestions or ideas? Your miniatures are absolutely ADORABLE and my great-granddaughters play with the ones I made for them every single day. They LOVE them (I made the entire cardboard set from the Cardboard House).

I will have to go back and look up your 5,000 subscriber stove, but wouldn’t it be neat to put those little globs that became stovetop handles on the “latch handles” of the fridge? My Great Aunt had these in her kitchen and when I actually know someone who had something I find myself wanting more tiny details than if I don’t know anyone. Is this odd? Does anyone else get this way when making a piece? Just wondering.........

you have to remember that the ice block must not be too big for a strong man to carry it up stairs with tongs. 50 to 75 lbs. "A pint is a pound, the world around". 8 pts to a gallon. think about putting gallon milk jugs next to each other.

I think I might just get off with using this in my Varda which is technically 1:9th but needs something for the kitchen bit and I have been struggling with what. I think this may just fit the space. (It needs a kitchen and I have made a stove and the seating and bed is sorted but I am at a loss how to deal with the gap where the food prep would happen. I think I may just make one anyway as my 1:12th could do with an icebox. The hardware looks amazing! It's worth however much work it takes because it looks so good!

Hello! Thank you for the kind words! This will be a little bit too small for the Barbie scale. You would have to double the size of the pattern for it to work of Barbies. When you double the pattern size make sure you also double the thickness of the materials you use :) I hope that helps!

Ara, what is the scale on this project? If I had to guess I would say 1/12. Also if you add baking soda to super glue it gets almost as hard as fiberglass. Do you think the hinges could be modified to make the stove doors openable? I would like to see if I can do this in 1/6 scale. In my abandoned barbershop there is an apartment on the floor above, these would look great in it all aged up. Though I am toying with the idea of a very early electric one that has the large tank like top.
@BentleyHouseMinis
@BentleyHouseMinis 5 лет назад
Yes it is 1/12th scale so you would just have to double the size to get something in 1/6 ;) I bet you could make some hinges for the stove ;) I hope to make them again someday and age the crud out of them lol!

I have started following you and have been so excited to learn as much as I can, but I have a question. When I printed out the pattern for the stove and fridge, the pattern says for the pattern to work the square on the page should measure 1"x1", but when I print it out (PDF) it is 1 1/2" square. When I reduce the size to equal 1"square the pattern looks so small compared to the one you seem to be using. Am I doing something wrong? I also am not sure how to transfer the pattern to the mat board. Can you advise me? Absolutely loving your channel. Your videos are so much fun and i have told everyone about you!!!

Hi Barbara! If the square is 1"x1" then you should be good to go! If it helps you to make sure, piece 'A' will end up being 3.25" tall when it is scaled correctly. One way you can transfer the pattern is to carefully cut the pieces from the paper and trace them onto your matboard. If you have carbon paper you can trace it on with that too. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for your kind words💖💖

I seem to be having a problem downloading and printing the patterns for the fridge and stove. I have a MAC computer and Idk if that has anything to do with it or not. When I printed out in PDF format I just get a blank page, anyone else having the same problem? Any suggestions, help? I really really want to have a go at both of these projects!

Have you tried downloading and printing the JPEG files instead? Sometimes I have better luck with them over PDFS.

I'll try doing that and see if I have better luck thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how I make out I really want to make both the fridge and stove!!

Amazing!!! And congrats! just for future reference (about uv resin) your molds must be clear in order for the uv light to cure all the resin otherwise only the top layer will cure. You can cure in layers but there’s still a chance it won’t cure all the way. Just to save you the pain I went through trying to learn. :)

Great tip Elicia!! If someone tries to make the ice cube with UV resin this is important to know for sure ;) Thank you so much💖

Wow. OMG Ara you are amazing. You have done a fantastic job. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope one day I will get to make this ice box. I think I will need a lot of patience. I have a vague memory of having one in our kitchen when I was a little girl, (a long, long time ago) but will have to ask my 94 year old mother to confirm. Once again thank you very much. Cheers ..Robyn 😊❤
