Great video guys loved watching it I’m waiting to finish my paddock. What is the stone that you put down for the donkeys to walk on ?

Glad you liked the video - We did another video specifically about the "Manufactured Sand" we used as the dry lot footing... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2KHz3VSigp4.html - Thanks for tuning in - reach out if you need further help...

do your donkeys bray a lot? do they bray at night? thank you. love your setup (:
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 3 года назад
Thank you for tuning in to our channel - Our two do not bray a lot. Only when they want their dinner. We feed them unlimited hay 24/7 but give them a little feed at around 5-6 PM each evening - If I'm late or they see me around that time they'll holler "Dad - Feed us...' Also first thing in the morning if I'm late letting them in to their larger paddock - They want their breakfast (fresh hay) in their Donkey Dugout... Thanks again for tuning in - Come back and see us...

We have three new minis that we adore! What kind of gate latches are you using? That looks so much easier than chains. Thanks!
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 2 года назад
Hi Heidi - Thanks for tuning in to our channel - The gate latches are: Co-Line Lockable 1-Way Livestock Gate Latch. Co-Line also makes a 2-way version, if your gate swings both ways - They are available on Amazon for about $23 but we buy them from our local Farmers Co-Op here in Tennessee. Best of luck with your new donkeys - Reach out if you ever have questions. Be happy to help...

What did you use for the surface? Pea gravel, or something else? Thanks--they sure love it!
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 3 года назад
Thanks for tuning in - The footing we used is called many things, depending on the area of the country you are from. Here in Tennessee it is call Manufactred Sand (M10) - in other areas it's referred to as: Granite Fines; Sone Dust; Rock Crusher Fines. As the names suggest, it is not a natural sand such as contractor's sand or play sand. This material is "coarser" than regular sand; compacts very well; keeps the donkeys out of the mud and is a dream to maintain - We have done several videos on this subject in the video playlist I have pasted below. You are welcome to email us or connect with us on our Facebook Page, if you have questions: FB = @ClearCreekCabinTN / our email is listed on our "About Page" here on RU-vid... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yyIPNj5Sr1k.html

Hello, I'd like to build one of those open shelter houses you have, which direction should I make the roof slope to? We have a generally west to east wind pattern.
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 3 года назад
Hey - Thanks for tuning in to our channel - I would think you would want to face the lower portion of the shed roof facing into the prevailing winds - Also you could install siding all the way up on that side to keep any driving rain from entering that side and getting the hay bags or feeder buckets from getting wet. We used Simpson Stong Ties® hurricane tie down straps (the "H1" and "H3" type) on the roof rafters as additional wind uplift support. You are welcome to email me for additional information - Be happy to help - our email address is in the "About" section of this channel 🙂

@@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm Thank you for the quick reply. We are new donkey owners as of May and have really enjoyed it. We are cautiously optimistic that we are getting the hang of it and are lucky to have Ohio State University Large Animal vets close by and have been such a help. This will be our first winter with them so we are a little nervous to be doing the right thing but we have all the right facilities to make them comfortable. We copied your dry paddock with the sand BTW and the donkeys love it! I will email with any questions, thank you!

@@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm I watched your video, I haven’t decided but it can be easily installed if we need it. I do have a specific question, we are building a shelter like yours in the paddock. Did you use pressure treated wood? Is there any concern with the donkeys chewing on the posts and ingesting the wood? Or should I just use cedar? Thanks!
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 3 года назад
Hi - We used pressure treated wood entirely, when building the Donkey Dugout - Our donkeys haven't chewed any part of it nor the pressure treated posts we used on our paddock fencing. We try to keep their mouths busy by using slow feeder hay nets/bags, since we never pasture them. We also have trees inside their paddock which they seldomly nibble on either.

What breed of donkey are these
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm 2 года назад
Thanks for tuning in - They are Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys (a very common breed) - Their colors are called Red/Gray Dun) To be considered a miniature they must be 36” tall or under @ the withers. Sadie SadAss is 32” tall & her son BartholoMule is 34” tall - They weigh about 200 pounds +/-

Very nice! :) *halter, not "harness", as a harness is worn on the animal's chest or body, whereas a halter is worn on an animal's face/head, different from a bridle. An animal wears a collar around their neck, but a *halter is worn on the animal's face or head. The correct word is *halter. :)

Thanks - I'm known for making quips with my words - That's why I teasingly say collar (since they are my little donkey-dogs... lol)
