Adélaïde Labille-Guiard

This self-portrait of Adélaïde Labille-Guiard offers us a view on her working table. We see her painting desk which is slightly inclined and covered with green leather.
An unfinished miniature and a piece of paper serving to wipe the brush lay on top of it.
In her left hand, she is holding a palette, and in her right hand a finely shaped brush. She represented herself exquisitely dressed in a room with elegant furniture, and through this expressed her sense for good taste and culture.
On the table, there is a terracotta bust of an elderly lady who might be Labille-Guiard’s mother. Next to it, the artist painted a lovely bunch on flowers in a vase.
