And actually, little Shoya was a rider who made most of his career with Honda, way before of the engine homologation in Moto2. In fact, the engine homologation is one of the reasons we hardly see nowdays in lower classes to Japanese riders who have done mostly their careers with other factories, and when they do they have it hard, such as the wildcard tries of Kohta Nozane, who is totally a Yamaha rider. That's why we did see a Tomizawa, a Fujii, a Sena Yamada (who is the opposite case of Norick: Initially a Yamaha rider, now a Honda rider), a Yuki Takahashi, or a Nakagami, but not a Takumi Kamiwada (I would love to see him as wildcard but I think it will be hard for him) or why full-time Yamaha riders such as Nakasuga (my favourite nowdays Japanese rider along side Taka) appear only on MotoGP class. Also, Norick was originally a Honda rider on his beginnings. He was a champion of the Japanese national championship on the 500cc category, and he did ride Honda. Also, his knowledge of Suzuka was mostly because he, as most of the great Japanese riders of his time, including Daijiro, did loads of kilometers in Suzuka, and Suzuka belongs to Honda. But it seems that the end of national 500cc and transformation on a Superbikes category, as well as other stuff, were the reason he left Honda and became a Yamaha rider. That's the reason of why in 1994 after of Suzuka, he got hired by a Yamaha team for the second half of the season. He was originally on Japanese superbikes that year but he did not finish the season. Simoncelli rode mostly for Aprilia, but as we know, Gresini Racing, a team who is sadly linked with two fatal crashes (Sic's passing and also Daijiro's), was for a lot of time provided by Honda. I doubt nowdays with the routine of using Moto2 as part of the route, someone can leave this world on an unfortunate incident without having even small connections with Honda. The only way is to having done a Superbikes career before of coming to MotoGP, and this is very rare now.
