Minimal Heat Takedown PVC Survival Bow

This is a simple bow, done in a similar fashion to the no heat survival bow. I did this as I was getting a lot of requests for a minimal-heat takedown and I also received quite a few questions on whether the sleeve connectors would work on a non-flattened pipe.
The result is rather unusual but it does work. The performance is decent, though the amount of permanent bend in the bow is really bad. One benefit to this is the limbs (which don't bend and basically act like levers) can be easily swapped out for longer or shorter limbs to adjust the poundage of the bow.
At its current length, the bow pulls about 25-30 pounds. Shortening the limbs by about two inches on either side gets about a 40 pound draw. While I still don't reccomend this type of bow, it will work if you don't want to do any flattening. Though if you can do it, a flattened bow will be much safer, easier to shoot, and be more durable in the long run.
Thanks for watching!

Hey man FYI if you freeze that main 23" section of pipe it might contract enough to make it even easier fr the heated pipe to slip over it. Works with metal bosses and bearings so it might work with PVC as well. Your videos are awesome by the way. One of these days I'm gonna build some of these since my crossbow pistol bowstrings keep breaking.

try boring a hole in a 2x4 that will allow the 3/4" pipe to go through but not the 1". The use your body weight/ah hammer to drive the grip to lacation on 3/4" pipe instead of using that slamming process. (you very well may micro fracture your 3/4" pipe doing that.---Nice vid, well done. don't mean to critize you. thanks for your knowledge and assistance

Make a mark on the bow then you know which parts belong together. Because of the thickness of the handle, I would give the bow an arrow rest notch, maybe it is a little thicker in the middle, then it becomes even stiffer.

heres a thought, obviously the idea is to take that bow apart when not using it, what about...how to describe.. a couple of like ring clips attached to the main section so when you take it down you could clip the limbs of the bow to the main piece, for easier carrying ?

It looks as though it benefit from some fiberglass rod reinforcement in the center segment. It would pack a bigger punch, as well.

This is the one I will be making; one suggestion though, to make this a stronger bow, without losing it shape, how about inserting 1/2 sch 40 PVC inside the 3/4? How about testing this theory and let me know what you think? I plan on making one in the suggested configuration and packing it for bushcraft purposes! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Do you ever make them from the gray PVC electrical conduit? I would think the UV resistance would make it last longer. Wonder about differences in strength and flexibility too...

is the 1 inch PVC pipe in the middle necassary
@TonyyStarrkk1994
@TonyyStarrkk1994 9 лет назад
The permanent bend in the main section is really bad. If anyone makes this, I would suggest adding in some fibreglass rods in a fashion similar to his 40 pound no heat PVC bow to the middle portion, or even his 70 pound no heat bow (with only 4 rods instead, so it will fit inside of the smaller 3/4" pipe). They will stick out of either end when the bow is disassembled, but it shouldn't be too inconvenient. It will also increase the poundage and efficiency.

@BackyardBowyer
@BackyardBowyer 7 лет назад
+Brian Wilson You don't want to drill any holes near the handle of this bow, as it will weaken it and could cause it to break there.
