I have a few keys for elderly parents and an old neighbor in case of emergency. When they end up in a hospital and I need to feed their pets it comes in handy.

Gail Evans I do too. But they are on special key chains so I know which one belongs to which home.

I definitely kept a small amount of keys that we could identify and still need - friends, family, neighbors. They are each on efferent keychains so I can remember which goes to which place.

That is why when I get or am given a key in trust for/from someone else, they get labeled or otherwise I.D.'d so I've never had this problem. I learned from the best: my parents and my grandmother and her younger sister. All organized.

I hate to pass the blame, but most of those keys were my husband's. We've lived together for two years, so I'm still finding little odds and ends to tighten up. I too label them all as they come in. It's the only way!

I gave my best friend a key to my house with key ring that had my name enameled on it so she would know what door it opened and to return it to me if they moved out of state.

Good tip. No only is it good to organize and ID our own collected keys, but helpful to ID our own keys as we pass them out for the sake of the person we are entrusting them to!
