I'm not a huge shopper, but I used to feel guilty leaving a store without buying something, anything... Now, I can confidently go into a store and if they don't have what I'm looking for, I have no problem walking out without buying anything. That has taken a while!

Same here! Especially when retail employees kindly greeted me when I entered the store or approached me while I was browsing. However, the older I got, the less I cared. And thank goodness for that! Social anxiety and self-consciousness are funny that way though.

I love the quality of Lands End tank tops. The fabric is soft and long lasting. They don’t cling and the neckline and shoulders actually keep everything covered. They can be worn alone in summer or under button downs or sweaters as the weather turns cool. They come in so many pretty colors! i wait for them to go on sale (usually like $12 each) and buy a few every couple of years. My oldest ones are well over 10 years old!

Yes, Lands End has excellent quality. I always love their clothing.

This was a fantastic video! I have been called a “freak” in regard to the night time ritual of cleaning up as it sets me up well for the next day. I am a minimalist not a freak, thank you 🙏

Haha glad I'm not the only "freak" ;-) Not freaks, just like to set up ourselves with a clean slate.

I agree with all of these - there is nothing so depressing waking up to your kitchen looking like a bomb site

actually, toothbrushes are a good example! bamboo toothbrushes are pricier but feel fabulous in your hand, are better quality, & are better for the environment. you get full-credit emily!

Not being emotional is key to not just buying the "Item" or thing...which can be frustrating but can give you peace of miind...

Definitely not going into shops was a big one for me. It’s made a big difference. It was easy to do the last few years here in Melbourne and now I’m still in the habit , even just getting my groceries online.

I really like the idea of, “pieces not stuff.” This is something I’ve never heard before and I think it can really help me. Thank you! ❤️

In the past shopping, buddies have called me picky, because I get something I want in my head and don't buy anything if I can't find it. Next time I'll tell them I intentionally buy things. :)

Such great wisdom . My mother had this wisdom. She only bought quality furniture-Harden brand. Solid cherry wood. She saved her money for each new piece. It looks as good today as when she purchased it in 1950 The company is no longer in business. Everyone wanted cheap and throwaway 🥲

Yea I definitely fail at that at times too. My organized spaces can get unorganized quickly sometimes. None of us are perfect :-)

Going to shops actually can be a good thing if you dont buy what you dont need. You re walking, getring out of the house and maybe meting a friend. I see my daughter buying online and she s adicted to it, always waiting for the new, buying lots of literaly stuff and returning many pieces. So many waste of packages... and time

I like the idea of each item being a "piece" rather than just having "stuff". I'll have to mull that over!

This is some good advice. I have to say tho, the whole, ‘you’ll have this for a (long) while’ mentality is actually caused me two major long term problems: 1) decision paralysis - because I feel like I’m buying something ‘forever’ which I logically know is not true. But then it takes me FOREVER to pick something out, even things I ‘need’. 2) makes it impossible to let things go - because I feel like I have to hang on to it forever even tho I no long use that item. Just me? Anyone else?
@Saforra99
@Saforra99 Год назад
Thanks for verbalizing these two hangups. I have definitely felt both of these -- even though I wasn't thinking about it as "you'll have this for a long time" and more I'm frugal (so want to really like what I choose -- and ideally get it used/cheap...) and don't like to waste/don't want it to go the landfill ---and yet, sometimes I *have* had to buy new, because all of the used options ended up failing (or were nonexistent/really suboptimal) AND I appreciate the reminder that our house's job is not to be a landfill itself..so if something is truly done/broken or even we're just truly done with it, we are *allowed* ;) to let it go. (Yes, I often try and find the most responsible way to dispose of it..but back to your first point, decision paralysis...*gah!* The struggle is real...) But as is being said more and more "progress over perfection" and as Dana K. White says "better is good". Good luck to all of us!

So glad I came upon your channel! I was definitely brought up with quality over quantity. It made getting dressed so much easier! I also loved your items you no longer buy…especially no more acrylic! It feels awful! I first found you while looking up reviews for Mother jeans. I loved the one where you wear the Mother jeans for a period of time without washing them. It was great! Lots of good tips. Thank you!

Fantastic Video - straight and clean 😍. Yeah, I ALWAYS clean up my kitchen before I clean up myself 😄 to go to bed. I live in a small flat (at least one room is missing!) with my twin girls 😉 at that also might be a reason why I hate it beeing messy - especially in the kitchen. Ah, especially with the two girls I often fail with buying quality oder quantity. And it's in addition sometimes hard to explain to them, that not every trend is a good one 😉 even that they understand the problems of fast fashion and agree with them. And well, I as a single mom, cannot afford high quality fashion for my still growing twins (or even for myself) every time. (OT: and I really finally have to install the american englishh language package on my new phone because this tiny message "cost" me way much too much time to write down because nearly all the words were continiously corrected into strange words 😅). OT number 2: You are looking gorgeous! Pregnancy makes you look even more beautiful 😘. OT number 3 (the last one): this mineral water is the best 😀 😉. Maybe you like to share with us, how you find your pieces (or Inspiration or "the knowlege" which piece you need and where to find and buy it? Just because you mentioned you never go shopping. That would be interesting 😊. Is it the same with shoes??? You really buy all of them online? I find it difficult because of the fitting and sizes.) Lovely greetings from germany and I am always very happy about your fantastic content!!!! 🥰

I know this sounds like it would have a straightforward no-brainer answer, but what are some good tips to stay out of the stores? I mean if one needs to go buy something that they need NOW not tomorrow... mm.. I know there's online shopping, but I hear some people can become addicted to online shopping. I personally don't really have an issue with shopping but I have a friend who I think can use the advice.

I'm surprised by this. I'm not a minimalist but I do like a clean kitchen and I always buy good quality, well considered items, whether they be clothes, home wear, cars, whatever. None of these things seem life changing to me, just sensible. Isn't that what everyone does??! 🤷‍♀️
