Check out this video where we're showing off Minimig ITX rocking PiStorm! We've had a blast testing it with two cool emulators, on both the RaspberyPi Zero2 and RaspberyPi 4. We've got two demos for you - the first one gives you all those awesome retro vibes, while the second is like taking the Amiga to a whole new level. So, whether you're into that old-school feel or you're all about the high-end Amiga experience, we've got you covered. Join the fun and see what Minimig ITX can do!

I have heard AGA is coming with Minimig 2? Will it be the same hardware with a AGA core? Or is a bigger FPGA required for AGA?

its renamed and called Amicube as it is a new tech not based on minimig . i will be doing a in depth review soon. Warm up your credit cards.

@@ChrisEdwardsRestorationYes, Chris is correct! however I will postpone AmiCube release until I have new Spartan 7 design ready. I will need to remove MIST design from current AmiCube F1200 completely since I discovered that MIST is not 100% open source. It is more of collaborative effort. Good news is I will have new board ready with the floppy header, DVI over HDMI and few more things. Also I hope we will be able to push the performance further! I will keep everyone posted about the progress.

I really hope there will be a Minimig AGA one day! I'd dream to build the ultimate Amiga with PiStorm & AGA chipset! In a standard Mini-ITX case with a custom Amiga faceplate...

yes i have had a pistorm in my 1.97 board - its very good. definately well worth it.

Impressive! The future of Amiga is open source! What i would like to see is, if the Minimig can handle the HighGFX drivers for OCS/ECS from Aminet. 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1280x720. If yes, i would be interested to see how Lightwave 3D performs in these grapic modes.

New AmiCube will have Spartan 7 with 50.000 LEs so I will be able to fit latest AGA core with RTG! And the there will be more I hope ;)

On Amiga there's a development so that you can feed the RGB signal straight onto rtg
@amicube

Yes, just someone needs to port ST core, if not done already.

Vampire Team has done this. You should check it out.

Hi, nice video! Just wondering why they made native ports of arcade games like outrun when they work through mame anyway? Or maybe mame doesn't work on the pi storm.. not sure!
@amicube
@amicube Месяц назад
I think best way would be to make dedicated FPGA board that can be replacement for the original Arcade system. Including ports and small nuances.
@Subar_Sama

Will you add support for the Apollo Vampire? That would be nice to have.
@amicube
@amicube 7 месяцев назад
I will take some time to adjust CPU bridge and Gary if needed. Electronically Vampire must be compatible with the Minimig, just need to figure out where the problem is. I suspect timing issues that can be corrected in the Verilog. If you have logic analyzer, Minimig and Vampire there is a chance you will be able to nail this down.

5:31 I would not classify them as one focus on speed and the other on accuracy, the classic version (pre emu68 runs a whole Linux and has “easier” way to bring virtual hdd network and things like that from Linux, while emu68 is baremetal emulating just 68kcpu while giving full access in 68k to everything in the pi….just needs 68k drivers to be written to use them.
@amicube
@amicube Месяц назад
That is a very good point. I stand corrected.

10:05 i would love to see games such as stunt car racer take advantage of ot. Playing locked 50fps would be quite something!

a parallel port? can you use the serial port and the ESP network at the same time?
@Grizaptimus
@Grizaptimus 7 месяцев назад
Seconded! I would really love a parallel port on one of these FPGA systems. I really want to do some old school sampling
@amicube
@amicube 7 месяцев назад
Unfortunately not with this Minimig. I will check parallel port implementation. At this time I am not sure how difficult this would be?

Can you use a PiStorm with an Atari ST core? I know that the PiStorm recently was made to work with the retro Atari ST computers
@amicube
@amicube 7 месяцев назад
Yes. Just someone needs to port ST core to Spartan 3 and Minimig Layout. Should be easy.
@JamesEzell
@JamesEzell 6 месяцев назад
Any way to use a real floppy drive with the Minimig?
@amicube
@amicube Месяц назад
Initially, I was inclined to say no. However, as you can see, I've already developed this module for the Minimig. While using the floppy as shown in the video isn't very practical, I could potentially create an add-on for joystick and serial port functionality, along with a special core that disables the serial port and joystick. I might also explore options for latching and I/O expansion. In short, it's possible, but it would require significant development on my end. A more convenient approach would be to develop a new board with a modern FPGA chip, which is precisely what I'm working on now. The main issue with the original Minimig is its outdated FPGA.

Would it make sense to build a board yhat instead of zorro slot had a rpi slot integrated?
@amicube
@amicube Месяц назад
Yes, and that is easy (replace DIP 64 with PI header). That way we can skip LVL shifting. In fact I am considering PiMig for a long time. :)
@IntenseGrid
@IntenseGrid 7 месяцев назад
What would be cool would be a tighter integrated minimig. Instead of level shifting to from 3.3V to 5V to 64pin socket back to 3.3v back to raspberry pi, why not just solder the BCM chip directly on the minimig, and possibly get more performance by freeing up some GPIOs used for unneeded things like WiFi, etc.
@amicube
@amicube 7 месяцев назад
This is easy. I will make PiMing shortly but I am warping up Spartan 7 next gen AGA platform first. We want AGA, floppy header and few more things with PiStorm.

@@amicube That sound's excellent! Can you make it boot off of the pi too? Managing 2 sdcards is twice the hassle! Please keep the VGA through the chipset too and offer a place in the case to mount 2xUSB, Ethernet, and HDMI.
