Minimize Workload Unit (WU) Impact of Utilizing Dropdowns in your Bubble.io Application

Utilizing dropdowns in your Bubble.io application can have a large impact in the number of WU's charged each time the page is loaded. Every time that dropdown is visible, Bubble pre-loads the dropdown with every choice available. If your dropdown references a large table of choices, your application will be charged a hefty WU price every time the page is opened - whether you use the dropdown or not!
This is a method we have found that allows us to minimize WU impact by only loading one choice upon page load and then having the dropdown load when the user wants to interact with it.

Need more videos on the different ways to minimize the use of workload units. I’m new and the limitation has been scary and there’s not that many tutorials on how to build efficiently.

As someone who built a page that racked up 5 Million (!) WU's in one day I share your concern. Thank you for the feedback. We will try to make more videos that share ways we have found to minimize Bubble processing.

@@genstatetechnology is it even worth it to build on bubble at this point? I’m trying to figure out where to build my web app. I’m moving it from Wix because Wix is pro-code when it comes to building web apps.

Would it not be better to "On Page Load" load all the results and store them in a state on the page and just reference that "State" for the options for the dropdown?

That would make things super fast and easy. But.... that search, since it involves hundreds of results, will end up eating up a lot of WU's. The whole reason why we have to do silly things like this is to prevent Bubble from doing the search until it is absolutely necessary.

@@genstatetechnology I understand - it's really useful information to be honest. I'll have to implement it throughout area's of my tool as mine is insanely resource intensive. Appreciate the help!
