They too should earn #60,000. Let's all earn equally, from Senate ,,to the governors to house of assembly, let's all earn same, nobody is more Nigeria than the other. Let's feel the pain equally.
@@4evertrue830oga inflation is a persistent increase in the prices of goods and service within a period of time. While deflation is a decrease in the prices os goods and services within a time frame.
@@tobekami4357 Understanding economics is as simple as basic arithmetic. You balance equations. If foodstuffs are available so much in the market, then let there be a living wage for workers to buy them and watch the positive multiplier effect on the economy. What part of that don't you understand?😏
I swear, Nigerians are too calm. This is the reason why this people are taking us for a ride. Until we use iron hands to really fight this, we will keep complaining. We are too soft in this country.....
If Nigeria government can't pay 105k minimum wage, reverse the subsidy policy or relinquish the govt to the military, then money wasted on executives, legislative and on allowances will be used to provide better for the citizens.
@@Amadioluchi-kids the decline of Nigeria started under the military. It was the military that decided to waste money on subsidy rather than build infrastructure. We are living in the result of their rule.
@@mikolowiskamikolowiska4993 Few days ago the amalgamation of labor unions shut down every institutions in Nigeria. The people can shut their government down if they decide.
It didn't make any sense for Dem to have relaxed it in d first place bcos dats y govt will Neva take Dem seriously. As far as I'm concerned, anything less Dan 150k is a no no.
But it's ok like this as if they keep to the strike, it will look unpatriotic. They must behave as partners in development pls. But now, they can show the government pepper

If they can't afford then , those that can't pay should go back to status quo, meaning any state that can't pay should go back to d region from where they were carved out and seize to be a State.
I agree with u. If cbn can revoke heritage banks license for not able to meet its obligations then states could cease to exist if they can function anymore. U liquidate. Every state is an establishment and they are in the business to make profit. Businesses fold up. A business that is posting losses every year is not sustainable and I don't think there is any business that attracts only left over staff because of poor remuneration that expects to get positive output
Reduce the cost of governance. The governors should be looking for ways to improve and increase the income flow of their citizens. They were not elected to only manage allocation’s but to also improve productivity, business environments, strategies for the future of their states. They should be more visionary. What plans are they making to bring into existence to generate new revenue streams. Our politicians are just managers.
😅🤣😂62,000 naira equivalent to $42 a MONTH 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Abi o, just keep on smiling while suffering! Captured enslaved citizens living in an open PRISON called Nigeria 😆
The problem is that the people in power see the public funds under their control as their personal money because the masses have not find away to demand that the money should be use for public purposes.
We will still be on this same issue in the next 100 years when the solution is there steering at us. Let every region govern themselves so that those people complaining to be poor will wake up.
This should force the federal government to sit tight and take back control of the economy. They will be able to pay a fair living wage if structures are put in place and there is productivity. People are hungry and some unnecessary projects at the moment are on going. Government officials are paid huge sum of money every month while some public officers who work more than they do are being paid peanuts.
This is my own view in all of this, at what point are we going to reconsider Price Control ? Because without that even if salary is increased 100% inflationary forces remain insurmountable . When a tree is cut and not uprooted it will germinate again and that is the bottom line. Here in diaspora, prices of commodities are fixed and brilliantly backed up with Tariff. No one is born so legitimate and so powerful to violate the Rule of Law in diaspora he will be forgotten in Jail. How will 60, 000 be sustainable in a situation whereby inflation is in the Neighbourhood of 2000% ? Something must be done expeditiously to end every second inflation. That is the Predator !!!
How do you control price. Why can't they control your price join Will you force ppl to sell below cost of producing? You want to see real suffering àbí? Lol will just licker up their ships then what will you do? Think before you talk
That is another tsunami waiting to happen, they price of commodities had skyrocketed already, I over-heard it again that they are still waiting for what the new minimum wage will say. I think FG should check the issue of dollar rise against naira, see to importation levies/tax, and be transparent in cutting down the cost of governance in the levels of government.
If Nigerian workers can't be paid minimum wage of N160,000 (Cost of 2 bags of rice). let the salaries of all politicians from executive, legislative to judiciary and other government appointees be cut to reflect the economic situation in Nigeria. Nigeria should consider scrapping either the senate or the house of representative and implement merger of states to save scarce public resources.
@@jeremee4sure one probably has to give up because many of these our fellow Nigerians are not using common sense. We use emotions instead of our brains, sentiments over facts, myth over science, embellishment over honest talk
The governors saying they can't pay sixty thousand must be impeached and jailed. For God's sake, their monthly allocation from FAC has tripled nah. Nigerians, how much more suffering can you endure
Can’t the govt set up a price control/regulatory body to be checking outrageous increase in the price of commodities? We are literally working to transport ourselves to work and pay rent. Nothing to save
Lol.. you cant do that in a system where you didnt supoort the efforts of the producers. How did you subsidize cement for, or raw materials or give stable and subsidsed power to run his/her business that you would be thinking of coming to regulate the price at which he sells his final products..? After he might have even spent hell to your police in trying to transport his goods from the North to South? Your govt shud just do the basics.. stabilise power, provide hood security nationwide, good roads, rails and other basic infrastructures, reform your police and make them stop giving businesses headaches with their bribes in the road (cos that contributes to production cost too).. do these basic things and you will see influx of private investors into the productive field and you will see supplus of goods at the downstream market, and when that supply is more than expected, you naturally will see prices come down. Its just basic Eco 101
Why wont Nigeria scrap that house of Reps and leave only senate then reduce their money let everybody feel the pain maybe for a specific period while the country is under construction. Burkina faso just did it every body is feeling the pains including federal ministers. Some states cant afford that 60k and its true then they should create wealth instead of looking at the FAC allocation. Zamfara should build some gold refinery while other states builds something to earn them wealth
Governor's saying don't have money to pay new proposed minimum wage of 250000 but every governor become a billionaire after he finishes his tenure. From here they make money?
Thanks for this discussion but like I earlier said, with d present state that we found ourselves, any state that can't pay d increase, should revert to her status quo. Meaning they're not fitt to be a state, they should therefore go back to where they were carved, because they are not fitt to be a state
i don't know what they think of us, are we beggars or workers to the federal government and to the state government, some states government who are saying they can't pay the sixty thousand naira, is because those who didn't pay the thirty thousand naira that was implemented in 1999 nothing was done to them, that's why some of them are saying that they can't pay this money so that they will have time to HUD money in different banks in abroad as some of them did, please any NGF who can't pay should step down and again this is one of their camping manifesto and to FEDERAL GOVERNMENT come up with a good reasonable amount I rest my case
At this point, i think NLC should relax in their efforts, let the Nigerian Military 🪖 and Police come out and lead the protest because they are part of those to be paid N62,000 which cannot keep a bag of rice for their family while they are away to fight boko boys. If the Military respond, i can assure you that FG will sign the N250k immediately as proposed by NLC. why are the Military so quiet in all these? And they are suffering the most. Except they have a plan B.
The governors can pay 100-150K. Some governors need to stop stealing public money, and avoid wastes. They are receiving an additional subsidy money each month. Some people do not realize the more you pay workers, the more money circulates within the system because the workers pay taxes.
Cut the cost of governance at all levels by 30%, block leakages and end oil theft , increase worker's ( living ) wage , halt unnecessary trillion naira projects , introduce palliatives for basic necessities...it's doable. Private sector will end up downsizing but no worker will be underpaid... those who are victims of job cuts can grab a skill /go into trade/farming/ enterprise ..
The Labor leaders are clueless. Increasing minimum wage will be met with price increases across the board. The Labor leaders should accept this amount in addition to social benefit packages that will cover healthcare, housing ,transportation, and food. These benefits can be digitally managed and the levels of benefit should be based on income levels and household sizes. These packages should be financed by the FG and should benefit both public and private sector employees. What use will it be if minimum wage is raised to 250 or 450k and there are price increases that erases the wage increase??
Almost N1.9Trillion monthly which cut across State & Federal. Meaning, Governors that can't afford to even pay N30k will not source for money to pay the same N250k. Emm... I heard some teachers still receives N7,500 per month in the North. If that's the case, how they wan survive N100k not to mention N250k?
I GUARANTEE NIGERIANS TGAT IF THESE POLITICIANS WOULD ADJUST THEIR EARNINGS TO A REGULAR PUBLIC WORKER, THE LEVEL AT WHICH DOLLAR WOULD DROP WILL SHOCK NIGERIANS....A TYPICAL POLITICIAN IN NIGERIA DOESN'T CARE ANYMORE...ABUJA IS THEIR HIDING PLACE
The States still not paying the 30,000 is because of impunity.Who holds these governors accountable? My pain is,Nigeria is like a big screen( a television) where most people are acting in a horrific manner with babies, youths n the elderly watching keenly. What lesson are we passing to them?
The solution to guard against sellers raising their price upon increase in wages is to have the Federal Government establish a Price and Wages Control within 14 days of the announcement of the new living minimum wage. Pass legislation with penalty financial, or jail. I am sure that you have competent economists’ social scientists including the Labour Union with integrity to fill the commission and effectively enforce the law.
It is a complicated situation, govt won't pay because they feel they display a set of half baked work force, their workers are not up to par and they compare their workers with their personal staff which they can treat anyhow, what a pity, I wonder how the economy will ever be transformed, when there is an inherent disregard for her work force whom are responsible for propelling the economy to greatness. No one is against the N62,000 if the price of commodities in the market was regulated, housing units for workers was accessible in part competition with private ones, the primary health care section were functioning with the workers considered and the educational sector if not free was at least affordable for civil servants amongst other things. With the behavior of our leaders, I see no hope in sight for greatness they lost, when the giant of Africa became a laughing stock amongst the league of Nations with a despicable comparison with a country like Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and other African countries doing remarkably well, taking strides in the right direction to show that there is an African dream to be realized besides the heart wrenching assertions being meted on the populace by our so called leaders.
Listening to this guest at your morning show suggesting that labour unions should fight for increased productivity, proves to me that he doesn’t know what he is talking about, on this point at least. If labour fights for increased productivity what would be the duty or responsibility of the employers and government? His argument proves that in Nigeria we very good at misplacing priority and assigning the right jobs to the wrong people. As for the state governments who claim they can’t pay, it is because they waste state funds on playing Father Christmas to their friends and partners in the crime of defrauding their states. What a shame!
The greatest problem with us is that the average Nigerian is not courageous enough to stand for the truth. For selfish reasons everybody wants to be seen to be in the good books of a non performing government. For example the learned gentle man, lawyer only mentioned tourism and hospitality in Cross River as one area for productivity improvement. What of the other key industries like Agriculture, manufacturing, food and beverages, textile and foot wear, pharmaceuticals, Construction, Atomobile, and services etc. He was shy to mention provision of basic infrastructure like electricity, fuel, roads, water etc. Productivity improvements can not be possible under such harsh and unfriendly business environment. If the four dilapidated refineries and over thirty power plants and bad roads can be fixed, Productivity will rise astromicaly and unemployment rate , exchange rate , inflation rate and poor salary and wages and other economic indicators will naturally stabilise.
Review of Government Policies and Politician Salaries is the best solution not increment of salaries. Once salaries is increased prices of things will increase in the market
It is completely ridiculous wen i hear dat increasing salaries is impossible without downsizing employees. While national assembly and govt annually increased dia salaries, allowances & incomes, did dey reduce the number of senators, house of reps, ministers and other cohorts? 30k as @2019 wen it was approved as minimum wage was worth 95dollar. Same 95dollar is worth 142k. Therefore, without even increasing d minimum wage, if Govt was to pay same 95dollar worth of minimum wage, worker should b getting nothing less dan N142,000 as minimum wage. If a state says it will borrow before it can pay, den so be it. If any state says it cannot pay, dat state shld be dessolved and merged with other state and stop all these rubbish..wot nonsense??
I agree with most of what the guest said but disagree that it's the responsibility of labor unions to address productivity. It's up to the employers/government to define what they need from the unions in exchange for the wage increase and that becomes part of the negotiation.
Is there no punishment from the law for any Governors or organizations that fail to pay minimum wage? See how they are proud to say they can't pay and some couldn't even pay the 30k. Shame
I am in no way an adviser of the government, but I'll tell you to focus on the transport infrastructure to caution the fuel subsidy removal, putting in as much as you have to make it easy and extremely convenient to move from point A to point B anywhere in Nigeria. Achieve that and sit back and watch how Nigerians would turn things around for the economy, all by themselves. This is not all it takes, but there has to be a starting point. Avoid trying to accomplish too many things at once. If not, any negotiations would be a sweet tooth at the moment, but the effects and consequences would catch on faster than you know and with more devastating consequences. Higher inflation. My Two Cents.
A high (rightly high) minimum wage will cripple the economy. Workers will be laid off in droves. Let us be smart. Reduce the government official's pecks to quarterly, find money and pay the people cost of living payments. Going the minimum wage route is just following a wrong direction.!!
Anything more than N100,000 many states would not be able to pay without retrenchment of staff then the market will increase Because any increase in wage has a corresponding increase in commodities and transport
When 2 parties negotiate, it's a common and smarter proposal to begin at the top, which is what labour is doing, ofcourse they also didn't expect 600k,500k or even 250k..those were incentivise to boost government proposal
Minimum wage is not the answer!! How many people are employed in Nigeria vs how many people are suffering from the currency devaluation? The government needs to pay every Nigerian N30k each every month as a buffer for cost of living. It is less than half what we make on petroleum in a month!!
