Picked one of these trolling motors up Walmart today to use as a spare. It was $94. Keep in mind that the larger prop pokes down further than the skeg on the trolling motor and therefore may strike the bottom before the skeg does.
Minn Kota makes the power prop and the weedless wedge for most of its motors, maybe not all. The power prop will give you more thrust, while the weedless wedge can deflect weeds better. It's not a hack or even an upgrade. It's simply a decision of which stock prop to use out of the 2 that the factory offers.
I lightly damaged my original prop on a rock the other day and decided to try this "upgrade". Smoother, less vibration, more bite on the hole shot. Sounds good right? The catch...... In still water best I could get was 3.6 mph. On my damaged prop I was still getting 3.9 to 4.1. Pre damage 4.3 was the normal max. Next test..... 55 lb thrust motor
@@fishyaker direct fit. Had to use 2 extra washers as the Motor Guide mount is shallower and there was 1/4-3/8” on shaft exposed. It’s a competition series Hannon 3 blade
Would there be a way to test the extra strain this puts on the motor? It would be great if it works but really suck if it just burns up the motor when put in the water.
Roland martin claimed in a recent video to have worked with minn kota to design the weedless wedge. He says he still makes royalties from it. I was wondering this exact thing. Thanks toast!
So of the 4 wires for the motor, just two power it and I assume the other two go to resistors. Now I wonder if you feed the motor just 6 volts, would it still move? (Be it a lot slower.)
Would hooking it up to a 24v marine battery do anything different? Completely new and just used this setup today. Seems fine, was out for about an hour or 2 and battery was still almost full
I tried 24v on my similar motor and some wires inside the "control" unit got very hot and started to melt the plastic around it. It did go very fast for several minutes though! I'm not sure what was happening inside the actual motor. If that part can handle the amps the rest could be upgraded... it would be some major changes though
this trolling sucks . i have a really old 30 thrust trolling motor that out does this one by a crap ton . this one has no power in rev on 3 . on speed settings 1 threw 5 does okay . other problems the mount is plastic an flexes a lot . when your out i the sun idk the mount seems to flex alot more maybe a plastic defect
