*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
Thank you for this, it was short, but comprehensive, especially showing the read out on the Garmin! Also, thank you for having a cheesy, gimmicky intro to your channel. Simple, sweet, to the point! I am curious, you mentioned being all loaded up in your raft, any estimation on weight of everything?
Two years later this motor is going strong ru-vid.comUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
hello again Jake, i need to know the battery wire gage from the MK to the battery. i got a quick disconnect battery cable connectors.the cable from the motor will go on one end and the new extended cable will go to the battery into the quick-disconnector. i could check the wire strand before i order online, just a 6 footer should do for my Aquos twin pontoon. by the way i fixed the slow leak on pontoon. it was only one side, the other side has no leak. here how i saw someone did on youtube: air up the pontoon, use provided wrench to loosen. once is loosened you can deflate pontoon . caution, there is a PVC piece you have to make sure not fall off when the internal halve is loosened. i would use a piece of tape to keep it from falling into the pontoon bottom. now clean out two seals try not to take them out or you can overstretch them. use clean water to wipe out dirt. if you can rotate the seals that will help clean even better. add a thick coat of vaseline as much as you can on both seals and turn so the vaseline gets into the bottom. reassemble the valve into the other halve. make sure is not cross threaded. once is fully screwed in, inflate the pontoon to make a quarter turn so the seals are seated. use soapy water to check for leak. inflate it fully and let it set couple days. this work great for minor leak on valve. thanks for your video. bob
Hi Bob, I wish I could help you but sadly I no longer have this. I mainly fish from kayaks now. I don’t remember what gauge wire sorry about that. Glad you were able to fix your leak! One step closer to getting out there! -Jake
Please let me know how do you load the battery to your boat ? My battery I believe over 65 pounds so I really do not know the best way i can do , i am old . Thank you
@@4shorefishing779 thanks buddy, but my saltwater area is just around 10-15 meter depth...and about corrosion i think we can prevent it by washing it using fresh water after every trip right.
You'd be lucky to get up to 5 mph. I had a 55 lbs and could get my inflatable up to 5 mph, but you can't do it for long if you have only 1 battery. Best to stay around 60 percent throttle.
Minn Kota states they all max out around 5mph if the motor you have has enough power to weight ratio. The hull shape of your boat also comes into play. No way the 30lb thrust can push anything at 6 mph.
That's not a bad motor, I can get around 3.5 mph on my Slayer Max 12.5 Kayak and slightly over 4 going down river with a medium to slow current. I don't even use the pedal drive anymore hahahhaha
sam sneeze Everstart Max 114 amp hours 12V from Walmart. Good battery. Part number: Max-29DC the longest I’ve had it out was about 5 hours cruising around
I wound up buying one of those things on Amazon great price well worth it I put itOn the 10 foot dinghy and it worked fine and I didn’t even wear the battery down that much well worth it you can’t go on buying one of those😊
Just bought a used sevylar 360 fish Hunter with this and some modifications for $300 good deal? Never drove a boat for my first time to take my wife and 2 children for fun fishing will work right? I'ma take it Sunday for a ride any tips,m
Luis Beltran awesome! Sounds like a great deal! Just make sure everyone has their PFD and should be ready to go! Have a great time and good luck to you! Always make sure you check weight capacity of your boat as well as not to exceed it.
@@4shorefishing779 thank you good looking out for the tips I really appreciate it yeah we inflated the boat deflated if it a couple of times we will hop in it and everything seemed good everything look good hey turn on the motor and it was working fine I just need to go to try it the water🙏
thank you for this short video on MK30. i just bought one for $109. i got a deep cycle lithium battery because it's light weight. not sure how long this will run. of course i'm not using for long distance trolling, maybe few hundred yards. how long will the battery last before running out? i know depends on the wind and water current. i have a Aquarius twin pontoon with alum platforms bolt with screws and connecting plates. one great part is the pontoon can be disassembled, not taking too much garage space. i will make a larger platform later.
That’s awesome congrats! There are many variables to tell how long it will last. One depends on the size of your battery as well. You can bring a battery meter with you to be able to tell how long it will last. Have fun out there!
@@4shorefishing779 i had a 14' PORTA BOTE with 55 thrust MK; used the interstate deep cycle. it was very difficult to handle this foldable boat due to the material. set up was even cumbersome. i sold the bote and the MK motor and kept the battery. now i have a 12v 50amp lithium deep cycle for this twin Aquarius pontoon. i haven't test it out yet, waiting for the 12V C2 30 MT motor. it should be sufficient for my need on the river bank, staying close to shore. that's where the fish like.
i just saw a different Trolling motor on youtube from England. this one has a propeller housing that gives even more thrust. i retired from the major airlines overhauled all types jet engine from CFM56 on 737 to PW4090 0n 777. exhaust duct is the major thrust provider as you notice the divergent duct. i'm thinking making and using sheet metal enclose the propeller outer area shape it in divergent casing, like the jet ski output. it will not restrict the water entry but creates more water mass pushing through it instead splashing outward as the propeller spin. you can see how much thrust is lost when the water is splashing outward instead direct through the housing duct. i will upload youtube video see this will create more thrust and modifying the platform, not putting extra weight.
Do you need to register the boat with numbers on the boat or anything like that or you can just take it out with no paperwork ? I am in CALi. I just got one is a 28lb thrust
The Captain Honestly I am not using one but to be on the safe side you can purchase on amazon just search minn kota 50 amp breaker I believe it bolts to the battery terminal. Hope that helps.
Minn Kota makes a battery box that has built in circuit breakers, a battery status indicator, and two 12v outlets. search for "Minn Kota 1820175 Trolling Motor Power Center"
I purchase one MK 30lb for mi boat 12' length fibre glass , my doubt what kind of batterry can use to get at least 4 hours autonimy at 75%, hope someone can help me , regards from mexico.
Sorry to hear. I’d bet that you could have a bad unit. I’d try to get it warrantied. Write the company and let them know I bet they will take care of you.
I believe it had an inline fuse it’s been a while since I’ve had that boat sorry bro. Maybe check online to see what’s recommended for that motor just to be safe.
@@DunnMotors on high speed it goes 2 to three miles per hour. slow but beats paddling. I have a good deep-cycle battery and have never ran out of power, so lasts a long time depending on your battery.
Great! Thank you for your reply. I just bought one, and a deep cycle from Walmart with a battery box. I believe I will be around 250 for the set up and I am looking forward to trying it out
If your state requires licencing your boat as a motor boat if it has an electric motor, then yes. The brand or thrust doesn't matter. It's a trolling motor and all of them are treated the same as far as licencing goes.
You should quit doing so much of a close-up at the water and a close-up of the speedometer you can’t tell how fast you’re going with your phone pointed dead ass in the water
Do you know if this is strong enough to take it to the beach? I just wanna go along the shore if the weather is good enough but I don't necessarily wanna get pushed out to sea and die lol. Is this strong enough to go against a current?
I don’t think it’s rated for salt water and definitely not strong enough for any ocean current I’d say. Better to be on the safe side and not count on that.
