Minn Kota Ulterra Commercial

We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

I think I'll buy this $ 2,500 trolling motor and put it on my $ 175 Walmart kayak

I was all about this motor , very proud of it when I got it installed on the champ. Everyone watches as it does its magic , but everyone also watches when it stops functioning as you have to take it apart to manually stow it. Mine had issues after one month of weekend warrior use . They are also pricey to have repaired. If you have throw away money and like to work for repairs than I suggest get one . Otherwise I do not recommend at all , get yourself manual deploy and stow . Also save yourself the time , energy and money trying to mount a garmin transducer on it unless you like humminbird electronics and want to use the built in transducer . All in all I rate this motor a 4 out of 10 and do not recommend for the avid fisherman.

I love this commercial! Talk about cool. Just let the boat float freely off the trailer, auto deploy the trolling motor, set the electronic anchor and call it to come fetch you (like man's best friend) at the dock after you park your vehicle. Heaven?

Well .. they are clearly listening all the time . I was told about this commercial just two days ago by a complete stranger and now here it is . I’ve never looked up anything about minn Kota ever or even bass boats in general... the ears are always on , the eyes always watching .

If you're on the fence about this motor, just do it. Game changer! I fish primarily for salmon. This weekend we fished Astoria, in the Columbia River. We fished Merwin for trout. Tillamook, Or for salmon, and bottom fish. And the Lewis. Anchor lock held in the Columbia on a 5' tide swing at 0.0 mph at ebb. On level 10 it worked my 18' jetsled upriver at 1.2 mph. Definitely use legacy auto pilot mode. 5 hrs on River. Battled heavy tides, winds, and boat chop on mouth of Lewis River. Side wind is hard on the unit. I should have turned it off and just used the main kicker. 4 hrs In the Ocean we had 5-8' swells searching for Coho. Auto pilot worked flawlessly. Didn't need the main kicker to help at all. Used anchor lock for halibut in 160 ' I did use the main kicker to help hold here. To keep the power at 5. 60" shaft with 24" sidewalls on the boat. Motor came out of the water 3 times all weekend. 6 hrs Went looking for trout on Merwin. Super quiet. Troll for an hour without touching the boat motor. Kokanee fishing with the kids is going to be super chill now. 2 hrs 60" Riptide 112 36v on 18' motion marine jetsled. Single 36v LI battery.

Fished with "The Minn Kota Guy" this past weekend. He is a professional tournament angler/guide in Orlando Florida. His name is Chuck Pippin very knowledgeable fisherman and very nice guy. We slayed the fish.

Looks cool as long as you remember to turn power on the Ulterra and brought your remote. Otherwise, he would look like and idiot and beg for a ride to his boat. Always be humble and treat everybody with respect.

I have had great success with my Ulterra and love it. It's coming up on my 4th season with the same motor and over 100 remote launches in all kinds of situations and conditions. I plan to make a video detailing my thought processes and technique for reference sometime soon. Thanks Minn Kota!

Just want to put it out there. The time when the boat was heading to the dock is totally off. Including the one when he gets on from the time he first launched the boat. All I can say is, look at the outboard trimmed. Someone in editing messed up. But regardless, I want one.

Hey so I know someone getting ready to get one and they say it has a 4k price tag. I'm trying to talk him out of it because here in Oregon I don't see electric motors used on the rivers here or even most of the lakes, you still have to bring the boat back and get on, buy a 5 dollar rope. Plus hes retired and dont have to worry about weekend ramp traffic. He could save his money and get a membership at the YMCA if he needs exercise because I see a lot of guys swimming for thier boats. Also, he don't have a bass boat or around here we dont target bass and thats mostly who I see using electric motors. Any thoughts?

Smirkoff might be looking down on the ppl at the ramp but little did he know auto deploy and stow would get stuck and b back at the ramp. Mate went to the shelf $500 fuel, bait, ice, tackle etc. Deployed, moved spot and got stuck half way up. Could not use, fished a bit and came home. Didnt have the same look on his face wen he went out. Lol

People say they are over priced... They may be. I started out a bank fisher won or placed in many tournaments. Saved my money. Most of what is on my boat is tournament won or paid for by them.

I would have definitely bought one if the commercials did not have a foreign brand truck in it.

The ulterra does all it says it will do, but I still favor the ultrex way more. The ulterra is very slow in response. You have to wait for the shaft to turn and it rotates slooooow!! It's a great trolling motor though.

With my luck it would malfunction and just go cruising across the lake.

I've installed around 20 of them. About 25% are defective right out of the box.

I have a question as I have ask couple of people does the minn kota ulterra ipilot link when in manual mode does it unwrap itself? We have a minn kota ulterra and we have sent it back twice now and everytime it comes back to us we have more issues . I have seen and read that it does our would unwrap itself now after getting it back it does not.I have asked minn kota about this and they have no idea what im talking about. Can someone please let me know thanks
