In this video, Denny Hinck said that Wheel Horse tractors were made in West Bend Indiana. Actually they were made In South Bend Indiana and were called Ponds tractors in the very beginning. They were the brainchild and product of a man named Cecile Pond. He built them in a building not much bigger than a garage and as a boy scout living in that neighborhood, He allowed us to collect all the cardboard from incoming engines etc for recycle as funds for scout camping trips Always loved this small tractor and brings back many great memories. Thanks, Gene...............
I own an 1980 john deere 317 garden tractor, and my dad is dealer of new riding lawnmowers and tractors, but everytime i work on those new mowers they all seem to be built very light weight compared to my heavy 317.
I found an old lawn tractor that someone stole and dumped in a pond probably for 25+ years. I powerhosed the whole engine off and took it apart down to the block and re-lubricated and cleaned it all up. Ran perfectly. I left the wiring and electrical cords dry out in the sun for 3 days and they were not affected either. The only difficult part was re-seating the tires and they were stubborn because the rubber was so waterlogged. I had a shop do it for me. One rim had rusted through on the arch and I had to have a welder fix that but other than that, good as new. It was a Craftsman - common model from the early 90s. The whole serial plate looked like Freddy Kruger ripped it apart - it was so mangled.
@@doublebfarms2313 they are made of sheet metal even the frames I’ve got lawn tractors just to mess around with and then a Massey 7 and a cub 100 and a homelite t16
This is my life goal. If my garage doesn’t look like this I’ve failed in life. I don’t know why, I’m sure he doesn’t either, why I love these old tractors. These tractors are far far beyond my time being only 30. This video brought a tear to my eye. It’s not about the money. It’s just a passion.
Be a good man and you have achieved more than most! I understand the feelings with tractors, you can't explain it. They are engineering marvels! (I tell people when you are in a garage or backyard working on a little piece of what most considers junk, nobody is arguing, fighting or having an ugly moment with another human. Just enjoying a little piece of heaven. Just got a jd 455 a few days ago(awesome machine)
I got the bug in early 90's ,at one time I had 15,20 John Deere's & 3 Cub Cadets. Loved the hunt for them ,I'd refurbish them to good running order & mowed the yard with them ,used them all one way or the other. Retired few years ago & Sold all of them except for a 64 JD 110 with the Bill of Sale. And a 1961 Cub Cadet Original. You have an amazing collection!
Now this is a video I can love. I loved this one and your video of Tom Renner's collection (especially his non-tractor antique equipment). They sure don't build lawnmowers like they used to. I had a chance back about 20-25 years ago to buy an International riding mower, and also a vintage zero-turn mower (I think it was called Ranch King or Farm King), but I did not realize the opportunity I had and so I passed them by. They were cheap too at that time, and not part of a collection, but just for mowing. Both were in good condition.
Thanks for watching Rodney! And thanks for subscribing to our channel! Can't believe it was 10 years ago last month posted our 1st videos...August 2009 :-)
That Jacobsen town and country.. there was a guy at a show in WI that had a whole LOT of completely restored ones of those. I never knew where they originated, as mine are branded Ford.
Worked for a guy back in the early 70's who sold Allis Chalmers garden tractors. Part of my job was mowing his grass, so I got to use a different tractor about every week. Most of them were only 10 or 12 horsepower back in those days. Allis made a small tractor that was only 6 or 7 h.p. which was kind of cool. They also had one called a Scamp, with a fiberglass body, not made like a tractor, but like strictly a riding mower. It was only about 7 horsepower with a 32 or 36 inch cut, but those things did a great job mowing.
Awesome video. Those tractors are worth some money. Parents bought a Wheelhorse Lawn Ranger 700 but had an 8hp engine. I think it was a Techmusch engine. Pardon me if I spelled that wrong.
I didn't realize that many where into old lawn tractors rebuilds. I personally just picked up an old Wheel Horse to fix for pulling things around the house with. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GjVggVsdJDc.html
Or the undersize hydrostatic transmissions that burn up after a couple hills. I appreciate the owner admitting some of his were considered throw away in their day which actually make them more desirable since most tossed them when they broke.
Omg its heavenly place i love garden tractors im in the process of starting a collection my self i restore paint rebuild engines kinda my little relaxation from work keeps the mind at ease Also to add my grandpa has a junkyard in iowa with some pretty old mowers its in pioneer should come take look and also restored a massy 12 exactly like then one in his shop
I have a B10 Allis Chalmers. The 2nd model the ever made. I also have an early 1978 316 John Deere with the single cylinder 16hp Kohler. The only year they made them. And there was 2 types the early one didn't have a universal joint in the drive shaft. They had 2 plastic flex-plates like the 300 the later ones had a universal joint like the 317. I also have an all origanal 317 John Deere with the series 1 Kt17 not modified with the upgraded oil pump and still runs super. Very rare because if you mow on a slant they threw a rod. I also have a running 877 Wheel Horse no deck though. The 8 is the hp the 1st 7 stands for hydrostatic transmission and the last number is the year in the 60's. Also have parts (wish it was complete) Wheel Horse 500 Special. This was 1 of 500 built in 1965 the year they were the official Garden tractor of the Indianapolis 500. I have the hood and frame with the Indianapolis motor speedway decals on it. And also have a 1979 Simplicity 5116 broadmower III WITH A 54" deck
Nice video, thank you for sharing. I was hoping to see a Bush Hog. Back in 1980 a friend had one and it was old then. It had a miniature clutch and pressure plate like a car would have.
As I was saying, Sterling Price Stephenson, my grandfather, from Bingham Lake, MN was born in 1899. I miss him a lot even though he was a gruff old duffer. When I think about it my father's father, Toby Allen was also born in 1899 and he was from Comfrey, MN. Fortunately I was adopted, along with my twin sister to the Allen family in the early to mid 60's, I was very lucky. Richard Allen taught me to farm, laugh, work etc. I miss them dearly.
I used to have an old John Deere 332 Diesel, I did some repairs to it since the previous owner neglected it. Once I got it cleaned up and fixed the overheating/oil leaking issue. I sold it for 1200, Honestly should have kept the old gal cause she was one hell of a work horse at 915 hours on the meter.
The 1963 John Deere 110 is certainly a desirable collector tractor, but those Minneapolis-Moline tractor's are extremely hard to find. Built by Jacobsen, parts are obtainable.
I don't think I have ever seen an Oliver garden tractor. I bought a 70 Cub Cadet for $25, with a broken rod. Overhauled the engine, used it five years, and when I moved, sold it for $500.
I knew Jacobsen made some Ford tractors, but I didn't know they them for Oliver, too. That Oliver 75 would be the same thing as a Jacobsen LT-750 or a Ford LT75. I'm currently restoring a 76 Jacobsen LT-860.
Excellent collection but my favorite part is the guns n roses appetite for destruction banner hanging on the wall...denny doesn't seem like the type of guy that would be a fan...I'm impressed
The ONE mower I wanted to hear about, you didn't cover.. :~/ I recently bought a Case 444 and I spotted his right away..I was told it was a 1972, but when I look them up the 1972's are painted differently.
great collection. denny needs some beaver garden tractors. i own 3. he has me beat i own 16 garden tractors LOL. wheelhorses, john deere's,beavers, and 1 sears ss16.
seems like a good old man, wish i lived near him. his buddies also looked like down to earth guys they would look better yet if they were wearing make america great again hats.
Those Massey Furgesson tractors are pretty cool, as well as the John Deere 110 square fenders, just found a 67 110 that needs some help. I gotta say... I’m a sucker for these old tractors, I’ve worked on the new sh#t & I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. I love my old Kohler/old tractors. They can take a beating.
He has my dream collection but there is one problem no fords. I have 2 ford garden tractors now a 100 and an lt 75. I am just north of shakopee and the white town and countrys were so close. Our farm is in the Watertown area and I am looking to expand my collection.
Most wheelhorses you see are from south bend Indiana that where the main factory was. That d250 was one of the very few that wasn’t because it was actually a rebranded gutbrod .
Hi there, i have a collection in new hampshire. Moto mower, lawnmaster,, porter cable tractors from 1965 and earlier. Old gilson, first year beaver, panzer, sears some bolens and who knows? All is now for sale if people want them. Kirk
I can't believe this large of a collection and no Panzer's. I have a 1110 in mint condition that was made in 1969. It's heavy duty with a narrowed Plymouth rear axle. I'm in southern Ohio.
