Yes, at the age of 31 Minnie Ripperton died of metastatic breast cancer. Unfortunately, back then breast health was not widely discussed and Dr ignored black peoples medical concerns . I’m white and I know this.
I was thinking the same. LIKE what made her discover she could do this and then thought 😏 to put in place as she did for this song? Quite a beautiful song 🎵 ❤
Facts 100%. Her control and the way she perfected it is absolutely amazing and stunning to watch. She excuted that very well. That's what you call true perfectionists 💯.
Watching her daughter, Maya Rudolph hosting SNL on May 11 2024 for Mother's Day weekend. I loved this song when I was at Camp Ravenswood in Northern IL, g-d bless her family and RIP Minnie. LBR
@arcanum3010 it was cut off the end of this video, but if you listen to the full version of the song, you'll hear the part where she sings, "Maya" a few times. Just Maya!
@@gmangel665 you are welcome hope you are taking care of yourself over there ? i wish we could be friends and also get to know each other better if you don't mind Gina
I tear up when I hear her say "Maya Maya Maya..." at the end. That has to be both heart warming and saddening for Maya to hear her mother saying her name. I had no idea this sweet lady died so young. 😞
The trailing off with the daughter's name at the end has got to be one of the most beautiful gifts anyone could leave their young child to grow with. Every time this song is played or sung, i know it has to warm Maya's soul ❤
Yeah. If I recall correctly Maya was about 7 when her mom died. I hope her dad and family made sure she was loved and kept her mother’s memory for her and her brother, Marc.
I married my wife in 1975, even though dementia means she often cannot recognise me, this song brings us back together. June 2024 and I still love her and Minnie's voice.
@@S0M3THING what they mean is true vocals, not all the auto tune and etc. just straight vocals. hearing the artist SING, not be autotuned the entire time and all these edits and etc
@@haganmonet4810 Yeah, only mainstream music does that though. There are several indie artists that actively make music who have lyrics that are written to mean something. Also, people usually do acoustic versions where the vocals overlay the instruments and aren't edited. I.e. Cavetown, Chloe Moranio, Dhruv, Bruno Major, RINI, 88rising, Rex Orange County, etc. I agree that many mainstream artists do conform to what the original poster and you said, but there are just as many (if not more) that don't that make such a broad statement unfair to those artists that write meaningful lyrics and utilize vocals that are fairly stripped.
Riperton was married to songwriter and music producer Richard Rudolph from August 1970 until her death in July 1979. Together, Riperton and Rudolph had two children; music engineer Marc Rudolph (born 1968), and actress and comedian Maya Rudolph (born 1972), a Saturday Night Live cast member from 2000 to 2007. Maya was a child when "Lovin' You" was recorded. According to the liner notes from Riperton's Petals compilation CD, the melody to "Lovin' You" was created as a distraction for Maya when she was a baby so that Riperton and Richard Rudolph could spend time together. Near the end of the unedited "Lovin' You", Riperton sings "Maya, Maya, Maya".
The difference between this original and the others is that this song is so pure and playful not overly sensual and seductive like the different versions
Right! I am a girl and this song was way before my time but I’ve never been so mesmerised by someone’s singing, It’s unlike anything I’d ever heard before. I felt like she was like my mother singing to me that she loves me. I snapped out of it real quick though when it came to the “every time that we ooooh” 😂😳
Exactly! I've always hated love songs, RnB from childhood but this song always had a special place in my heart but I didn't know why. After hearing this song and listening to the lyrics today 30+ years I realize it's because of the simple melody and most importantly how genuine she looks and sounds. It's just pure. I'll save that for my wedding night play list 🎉❤
I must have been living on another planet for all of those years of my life. This is the first time that I hear this song and learn about the earthly existence of this angel in guise of a beyond-gifted artist.
I went to a house party with my Mom, you know those 70’s parties…I was 6 years old. I remember walking in with her and watching her and this man (literally across the room) lock eyes with one another for the very first time. I was so little but I could feel that energy & how powerful love at first sight was. I just stared at them in awe while time stood still. This song was playing. I will never forget that moment. And fall in love did they; my baby sister was born 2 years after. ~~Tanya Berki Banks
Thank you for sharing this. Love is such a magical feeling, it can erase every bad thing and take us on a beautiful ride. I met my wife on my balcony while i was hanging my clothes in summer. She came out in the sun and her black skin was shining in the sun and her hair was shining even more.
I didn't know that Mom passed from Cancer she was first diagnosed at 55 it took her life at 78 it gives a new meaning to the word toughness. RIP Mom RIP Minnie
I so loved and still love this song. Was living in Israel in 1975, and was in love for the first time. We got engaged and I let a silly school girl convince me that while I was visiting family in Australia. that my fiance cheated on me. I broke it off when I got back, but truly believe he was my true love. I later married 5 year later and had my beautiful daughter, but alas the marriage didn't last. But my daughter and I are still so very close, and that I can never regret. This song brings back my youth and wonderful memories.
My mom wasn’t much of a singer but she would put this song on when it was bedtime. She definitely loved singing this song to me when I was little. I’m now 27 and I’m pregnant with a daughter and i play songs that I love. I’m so excited to meet my baby girl in January!!
What a great way to start the year !! I am so happy for you , your baby will be very happy with such a wonderful mother 🤗 . Peace Love and Blessings always 🕊️☀️
This song is really timeless. My 4 yr old granddaughter put her little hands on the chest, closing her eyes and sing this song everytime I play it on You Tube. I become so emotional and hold back tears
I don't know why I'm here, but this song just randomly popped in my mind for some unknown reason. Minnie Riperton's vocals are light and airy. It's very pleasant to the ears. She could sing dozens of nighttime lullabies and it wouldn't even faze me at all. So sad that she already left this world. I hope she's at peace now.
I heard a young lady sing this song on the voice and that brought me here. Her name is Checi Sarai. I remember this song as a child growing up in a small town. The birds chirping in the intro and the soothing and calming sound of her voice. That was 48 years ago in 1975 when I was just 11 years old. We were blessed to hear her for the years that she was here albeit was just 31yrs 8 months. Prayers, peace, love, joy and blessings to everyone who listens to this song!
Lovin' You Minnie Riperton Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful Makin' love with you is all i wanna do Lovin' you is more than just a dream come true And everything that I do is out of lovin' you La la la la la la la... do do do do do No one else can make me feel The colors that you bring Stay with me while we grow old And we will live each day in springtime Cause lovin' you has made my life so beautiful And every day my life is filled with lovin' you Lovin' you I see your soul come shinin' through And every time that we oooooh I'm more in love with you La la la la la la la... do do do do do No one else can make me feel The colors that you bring Stay with me while we grow old And we will live each day in springtime Cause lovin' you has made my life so beautiful And every day my life is filled with lovin' you Lovin' you I see your soul come shinin' through And every time that we oooooh I'm more in love with you La la la la la la la... do do do do do
Minnie Riperton could hit those high notes like no one else. She was an incredible vocalist. Minnie left us far too early because of her illness. My dad and I made an agreement before he died to meet on Copperhead Road on January 1, 2060. Minnie is invited, and we hope she joins us.
My God, what a voice. I am...enchanted. I read that the part at the very end where she goes "Maya, Maya, Maya" was for her daughter, SNL alum, the gorgeous Maya Rudolph.
I'd never heard any songs of Minnie other than Les Fleurs, The Edge of a Dream, Inside my Love, But I instantly recognized that voice while watching Will & Grace. Lots of love from India.
Now that's four fucking octaves, absolutely beautiful, it's a shame how modern music lost this simplicity. 70s is the best Era in human history for singing talent and songwriting.
The story of the song I believe was she created the melody and the song to relax her daughter and put her to sleep. At the end of the song she sings her daughters name, maya maya. I sing to my daughter too now
I've heard this song so many times but it's the first time that I'm seeing the video. I didn't realise that she was serenading Maya at the end, that's so sweet. I also didn't realise that Maya's dad accompanied her on guitar in the video. They were such a lovely couple. It's sad she died so young, but this song will live on forever with younger generations like me and those that will come after me.❤️
That line ' stay with me as we grow old as we live each day spring time' . Life is precious guys. Also what a terrible loss from someone clearly so talented.
They dumbed down and defunded academics and art in USA for a reason. America was more invested in a society of programmable drones, not free thinkers and talent
Bro i hear what you saying but she just talking about love like 60% of today song say the same shit that she say … wake up to reality, musicality change yes but that’s it, in every generation there are talented and not talented artists
@@lolbn974 I agree with Nikita, today's music doesn't come close to the craft of this classic. You are right about one thing, music has changed and as Nikita also eluded to, it's got worse! You want proof - Show me 3 supergroups today that have the same appeal of these stars from the 60s, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys? I could go on, but I've made my point already - There are none today, enough said

@@lilyleon1475 If there are no supergroup today is totally not because they are worse, it is because we have so much choice today ( i mean easy access choice), and it is so much easy to discover new groups/artists, secondly back in the days you had to buy 1 album by 1 album and it was quite expensive so you listen to them a lot to make them worth the price , thirdly the main way to discover new artists was Radio and radio almost only play the trending music/artist. There must be a lot of other reasons but i really dont think that the quality of music is one them and i quite sure nobody could judge that without any bias
Everyone for the next 10 months or so now. I'm not going to like your comment because you said the current year, sorry buddy. You're far from the only person making this comment, by the way. Lots of people go to older content and just post the current year.
There's never been anyone else like her. For me, it took a combination of natural talent and practice to hit notes even higher than Minnie does here, and effortlessly. You need natural talent, a real soprano voice, and daily practice. If there's difficulty, you weren't made to sing in the stratosphere. I thank God, I was because it can't be learned, only honed. Minnie was a natural, a beauty with an angelic voice. Love this song so much.
Such an Angelic voice none of that extra stuff straight to the point with plenty of emotion behind it. There’s plenty of great singers out there and through history but to me this song has always stood out definitely my favorite
@@scottrichard5792 loving you was the song that got me started and it remains my favorite song of all time! I know it's slow but that's the kind of music I love. I'm really into folk music which is long gone but I listen to the oldies thanks to U-tube. I pray you don't start charging us for regular music. There's no legal way to copy the music. Copywrit.... But as long as you don't delete the songs, of course that's up to the app holder. I would like them to stay forever here. Whenever I see a song recorded 10 years ago or more, I get very excited and quickly go to the app holder 's site and usually find more favorites!!!! Thank you!!!!
They say comedians carry the most pain and sadness in their hearts; if that IS true, then it isn't hard to understand why Maya Rudolph became such a talented comedian!
