Mint Condition Austin Maxi 2 HLS 

I use to drive my dad's Maxi in the late 1980's It was a red 1750 manual (WMB 12 R) 1977 model my dad bought it in October 1982 and kept it till January 1990 never let him or me down always the first turn of the key . This was my dad's second Maxi, his first one was in 1977 to 1981,That was a blue ,manual (WFM 164 L) after he sold his blue Maxi in 81 he bought a Morris Marina 1.8 Special in beige only had it for 11 months he did no like going back to a 4 speed gear box, geting up to 40 mph then always accidentally slaming it in to 3rd. And in September 1982 my dad was hit by a drunk driver my dad was in hospital for a while but he was ok in 2 days he was home the Marina witch was only 5 years old at the time (R reg) was written off, then he went back to a Maxi he loved that car. Thanks for the video . I hope Colin's exhaust pipe is repairable take care.

I met Colin when he turned up to a place that i worked next door to and i had to go over and chat to him as i owned a 1992 Rover Metro at the time. Nice chap and really enthusiastic always see him around in the blue Maxi.

We had the same car, FCA 379X, light switch was by your right knee which you would occasionally turn on or off accidently. Twin carb, never got more than about 25 mpg. Blew up big style at 106,000 miles, used to rust in random places.

I had a 1976 R’ 1500. It was like a Tardis, the interior space was incredible. Totally reliable. Ran like a dream. I got £350 for it in 1989

My dad drove a 1750 automatic finished in "bracken" with brown vinyl trim bought new in 1976. Great car - I'd wanted him to get the "sporty" HL but he liked the auto option. It replaced his 1971 Wolseley 18/85 auto. After passing my test I used the Maxi briefly when Dad went for a Rover 2600 in 1979.

No surprise he hit a speed bump because the ground clearance on the Maxi was ridiculously small.

John Lennon, who was very short sighted, crashed a 69 Maxi in Scotland in July 69. He injured Yoko and himself but Kyoko (Yoko's child from her first marriage) and Julian Lennon were unhurt. He return to London to complete Abbey Road two weeks later.

Love to see such care and enthusiasm of our motoring heritage - are they still running? Friend had a Maxi (chocolate brown with orange interior) - it was huge inside and so, so comfortable. Aaah to own one!

My late uncle had a 1750 w reg in metallic brown always broke the manifold he said to me must have been a common problem.??
