I planted mint in a round bricked area. It grows so much but its never enough eventhough it grows to like 3 or 4' high and all over. My son drinks a gallon of mint iced "tea" a day.😂 its hot as hell (111) where I am and it still grows like crazy. It gets lots of water.
I live in the high desert. My mint is looking pretty bad right now but that's because I had to prune the tree it was growing under and now it's exposed to more sun. I'm glad that it's roots are still alive. That gives me hope that it will make it. Thanks for the video!
Mint is my nemesis. I rent a community garden plot, and some previous tenant must have planted mint in the full soil. Every week i have to remove more of it to prevent it from taking over. It does look like I'm finally exhausting the root system. Overall, mint is up there with banyard grass in the problematic weeds scale for my garden in temperate zone 8.
We use mint daily! I found a corner to put my mint next to a concrete pathway where my vermicompost, Moringa Oleifera tree and whisky barrel with my blackberry shrub. I have Apple mint, Spearmint and Pineapple mint 🍃 It draws beneficial insects that have larva that attack the ones I don't want!
I fill up a quart jar with water and half a lemon squeezed for its juice or some lemon powder mixed in. I add sweet mint sprigs from my garden (at least four sprigs or more) and it looks so pretty in the jar. I let this get cold in the fridge for at least four hours or overnight. I pour me a glass and add some liquid stevia - a dropper full - some people might like it less sweet. So refreshing on hot summer days. When served to my guests, they are always pleasantly surprised and want to know how to make it.

The fertilizer tip was very helpful. I don’t have an outdoor Spence to garden so I have indoor hydroponics. I haven’t had success with mint but now I know the nutrient solution is probably the culprit. I recently separated my mint into its own container. I will be swapping out the water today.
I have been waiting for this video. I love strawberry mint struggling to keep going in Surprise AZ right now indoors. I got cuttings 3 months ago one from Oregon and the other from New Jersey. They were healthy when I got them. Thanks
The mint varieties that stay vigorous longer and can tolerate full sun longer than my other mints: lemon balm and pennyroyal. Also, I found a sweet spot to have mint looking fresh, even in the dry heat of the summer: I plant a window box that only gets a few hours of direct morning sun. As long as I keep it moist, she fills out the whole area! Also, I learned the hard way not to fertilise: leaves get sick and crispy.
Thank you for this wonderful video! I have been growing some mint that i just took a look at and it definitely has scorched leaves. Sadly I removed them before watching this and tossed them. Next time I'll let them surround the bottom of the plant to help with moisture evaporation
Thank you for this info. I had a wonderful experience with this, my first attempt, BUT since it began to look dead when the heat hit, I pulled it up. I just moved my mint into complete shade. It's still taking water through an olla though, so I keep filling it up when it's empty. I have stopped surface water though. Do you water the top of the soil when you fill your olla up?
Dont try planing from seed ia a good advice but can you please also show you to multiply from branches? I watched other similar videos but aomehiw it does not work for me yet. Trying from seed did but took long time and it is getting smaller instear of spreading unlike what expected. For now I cant say I am successful at mint planing :/
get a cutting and either put it in soil or water until it has roots. The easiest thing to do is look for transplants - get a small one when it's on sale and it shouldn't cost too much.
I have it in containers so I can move it and basically keep it year round - I’m up the 202 from you…I fill a pitcher with mint and 6 cold tea bags and water and refrigerate and yum - I don’t need any sweetener…have your growing calendar- thank you for all the advice!!!🪴🌻
I'm in central FL and I can't seem to keep any kind of mint alive. I've tried pots, buckets, and right in the ground in the shade. I've also tried sunnier spots, but the sun is intense and kills much of my garden during summer.
I'm in South Florida zone 10b, what I have is some peppermint in pots that is surviving in semi shade, but every summer it dies back so badly I think well, that's it it's dead this time, completely brown. But I keep watering it, sometimes find an even shadier spot for it, and then it starts regrowing, and suddenly one tiny leaf sprouts and then becomes many. I did plant one in the ground, it died, but not before sending out a runner, that one has hung on so far, I don't fertilize at all, just water every other day. Hasn't grown an inch in months, but it's still green. Keep trying, and don't think it's dead if it turns crispy. Keep watering it. Good luck!
@@bethb8276 That's good to hear. My plant is on the side of my house under a huge oak tree. It stays cooler there and the rain drips off the roof about a foot from it. There's a ton of leaves and I'm not really sure where the plant is exactly since it died back. I hope it comes back when the temps get cooler. I'm going to plant more in that area and a few other areas to see where it grows best.I think my zone just changed to 10b
My mint is doing fine, but something ate every single bit of my lemon balm overnight, down to absolutely nothing but a couple of bare stems sticking straight up!
I know this and have been gardening for over 20 years. I'm sick of the creeping Charlie in my pumpkin patch so I've planted mint straight in the ground this year😂 better to have mint under my pumpkins than creeping Charlie 😂❤
